A very content bunch of horses, all making new friends, we recently had a livery join us, who has experienced her pony not settling at her previous yard. Today the pony has joined some of the others and we are so happy that she’s settled straight in 🥰

What a beautiful evening, I never thought we’d get the fields looking like this ever again 🙈🤣, I’ve harrowed some 4 times, all ready for rolling and spraying tomorrow.

Spring is finally here, it’s been a long winter and now we start with turnout preparation. Harrowing, rolling, spraying and lots of new fencing, it never stops.

Well done to Jaimie Leigh and Junior today, their first RI show of 2024 and they made it a winning 1 in a very strong class at the BSPS Area 2A show.
What absolutely amazing news, Verity and Byron revealed yesterday.
We have known Verity ever since she was a young girl, first of all, coming to our summer pony camp back in 2006 ( wouldn’t camp out 🙈🤣🤣 making Mum or Dad bring her daily ), then the rest his history, many highs and some very sad times along the way.
Verity, Byron and Elaine, that’s why, theirs I know who deserve this wonderful news more, you all deserve this happiness and we are all over the moon.
We think you’re going to make the best Mum and Dad.

Busy day at Leaventhorpe, we are always striving to improve and maintain.
2024 is going to be a busy year with many improvements planned, lots of new post and rail fencing, new roof on our timber stables, several new path ways and our arena resurfaced, we will post photos as and when 😊

Many years ago, our local councillor was a lady called Valerie Binny, Valerie who was a great lady for our area, she was also a great supporter to me, helped with various planning applications and just in general a great friend.
Valerie who was very proud to be from Thornton, wanted to plant some daffodils, we thought it was a great idea and was only too happy to help, we supplied her with 50000 bulbs.🤣🤣🤣
Valerie, you are missed, old school and got things done.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Herpies update ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Dear all,
Just over 3 weeks ago we had a pony with a slight cough, the horse in question was tested for Herpies, just as precaution, unfortunately it came back positive. We as a yard, formulated a plan within 60 minutes, this was implemented, clients informed. we had discussions with our vets, we did more testing.
Today we have had the news that after retesting the said pony, it has now tested negative , it has been a difficult few weeks, I would just like to say, a real big thank you, firstly to our clients who have been very supportive, understanding and put plans on hold, vets, Hird and Partners have done an amazing job, however most importantly to our staff, you have dealt with this situation with the up most professionalism and worked extremely hard.

So these photos came up on my Facebook memories, earlier today from 2 years ago, we were all set for turning out, 2 years on, we are definitely not ready for summer turnout 🙈😩.
Dare we say, theirs definitely a feeling of spring in the air and it’s definitely needed, long may it last 😊
With spring around the corner “ hopefully” this will soon be 1 of the last loads of our winter loads of fodder, to date 150 round bales of hay, 84 bales of Haylage, 966 bales of shavings and 968 bales of straw, turning out can’t come soon enough.
As always we can’t thank the farmers who have supplied us with top class fodder, the very best service for many years, here’s to many more years to come.

Unfortunately we are making the following statement, out of courtesy to other local yards and other local equines. Firstly we want to ensure everyone that we are doing everything possible and taking the advice from our vets. we have unfortunately had a pony test positive for equine Herpies, while the variation of the Herpies is EHV -4, which only effects the respiratory. We are testing other horses as a matter of precaution and hopefully the steps we have taken will reduce any further outbreaks and we hope that this is just an isolated case.
While every new horse or pony gets tested for strangles and also has to spend 28 days in our quarantine stables, Herpies is something what we haven’t tested for but will be certainly testing for in the future.
