A polite notice to our clients 🫶🏼 💊

You may have heard of the changes in regards to ordering repeat prescriptions , including flea and worm treatment. This came into effect on the 1st September. These rules we have to comply with as they have been made by our regulator, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

The RCVS guidelines are as follows:
Important medications such as anti-biotics, pain relief , prescription flea and worming , anti seizure drugs cannot be given out until the pet has received a health check from the vet outlining that the pet is fit and well enough for such prescription.

How does this affect you?
This means we need to carry out a health check (free of charge in certain cases) in order for the vet to up date clinical records to ensure you’re able to order these prescriptions and obtain medication.

*PLEASE , ensure that you have given yourself enough time to book a health check if your pet is due a repeat medication , this is especially important for such drugs that cannot be stopped abruptly (such as anti-seizure medication).

*PLEASE allow notice for such medications that are especially ordered for your pet (we do not always stock every drug on our shelf)

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, we are trying our best to meet the needs of both pet owners and furbabies.

If you have any questions please call and check before ordering medication 😊

GRASS SEEDS 🌱

‘Tis the season for grass seeds 🌾

This cute little fella had two grass seeds, wedged right down his ear canal. Even though the owners thoroughly checked him for grass seeds (and found many attached to his coat) , these grass seeds would not have been seen without using an otoscope to look down this pooches ear.

Signs of Grass Seeds:
🌾 Head shaking 🫨
🌾Scratching
🌾Not their usual selves
🌾Restlessness
🌾Reactive when touching the area
🌾If found in their paws, the area will be sore and they’re likely to chew/lick and/or become lame 🐾

Solutions…
🐾Clip those hairy toes! Next time they’re at the groomers ask if they can have their paws shaved short so the grass seeds are more visible

🐾 Thorough checks during or after their walk. If found quick enough, it might prevent the seeds from travelling deep into their ears and paws

🐾 Avoiding field walks or long grass

🐾Shorter coat

If you think your doggo has a grass seed it is always best to book an appointment with one of our vets 🐾👩‍⚕️

Take care when swimming your dogs this summer! 🏊‍♂️🐾

Green and blue algae is really dangerous to our canine friends, causing lethargy, vomiting, disorientation, drooling, seizures, breathing difficulties... the list goes on!

Toxic blue-green algae is fatal, and has long term health problems too.

If you suspect blue/green algae poisoning please contact your closest vet and report it to, Environmental Agency on 0800 807060.

🐾Nervous pets 🐾

How can we help?

Having a nervous pet can be stressful when visiting the vets, and can prevent a lot of owners visiting and being able to receive the treatment needed for their sick pet.

Here a few ways we can help to make the experience less stressful both owner and pet:

🐾 We can make longer appointments to give more time to socialise and settle before seeing the vet 😌

🐾We can book the first or last consult slot of the day, where reception is less busy 📝

🐾We can offer the consultant to be held in the car park or the Car if appropriate and safe to do so 🚗

🐾We can offer socialisation appointments with nurses 🫶🏼

🐾A vet can prescribe medication with calming effects if appropriate 💊

Please make the reception team know when arranging your pets appointment of how we can help ☺️

In light of Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month, we would like to congratulate our newly qualified veterinary nurse Zoe 🥳

Nurses play an important role in ensuring your furbabies are loved and cared for whilst in practice 🫶🏼

They are not only lovers of animals, but they are also hand holders for the owners, both patient and owner care is priority.

Nurses are like icebergs- you only see the surface of what they do! Mostly working behind the scenes there isn’t much they can’t do.

From reception duties, pharmacy, lab technicians, anaesthetist, phlebotomist, radiographer, ward nursing and nurse consults/triage , are just a few duties carried out day by day in order for the practice to run smoothly 💪🏼👩‍⚕️

So please, show some appreciation for the hard working nurses who are dedicated in making your pets loved and cared for whilst in their care 🐾❤️‍🩹

Here’s Biggie , one of our nurses dogs whose just had surgery to remove his bladder stones.

This cool dude has just received his K laser treatment on his wounds to aid healing and reduce inflammation.

K Laser is beneficial with not only wound healing and inflammation, but for those older patients with arthritis too.

By increasing oxygen supply to the tissues it stimulates cells and promotes healing ❤️‍🩹

🐾Meet Hamish and Henry🐾

These two trouble makers got their paws on some cake bars that included currents and some human thyroid medication! This was not their first visit for committing such crime unfortunately.

Following a thorough health check by one of our vets , the boys were admitted for hospitalisation for fluid therapy and activated charcoal and close monitoring from our team of nurses.

With Easter coming up, please take extra care in hiding those treats away from your pets! 🐣🍫

🐾💕Gone from our sight but never from our hearts💕🐾

Our lovely receptionist Shelley has been dedicated to this room, spending hours at home creating a beautiful memoir for our rainbow bridge room 🌈.
Saying goodbye is never easy, but being surrounded by beauty can help us reflect on the gratitude we hold in our hearts for the time we get to spend with our loved ones.

🌟 Our Braveheart of the month 🌟

This handsome doggo, Eddie , was unfortunately brought into us following a road traffic accident. Amazingly for this chap he had no broken bones or internal injuries instead treated for shock following a thorough assessment by our vets. This brave man has been visiting for regular bandage changes and laser therapy treatment to treat his wounds and abrasions, with our lovely nursing team.

A bag of treats and a cuddly toy for this brave soldier 🐾💪🏼
We all would like to say a big thank you to Eddie’s family for the beautiful hamper and card we received too 🥰
Would like to also commend the bravery of Eddie’s mum and two young children who had to witness the tragic event ❤️

 IMPORTANCE OF MICROCHIPPING ‼️

This little girly, Originally named Boo Boo, was stolen around 18 months ago from her original home in Cardiff. One of our lovely clients Mr Hills found her dumped in a crate on a country lane just off the M25 by the A12.

Thanks to her original owner for microchipping her, it prevented her from going to the dog warden. Her original owner has signed her over to Mr Hills.

Boo Boo now has a new name, Lola, and a lovely new life 🐾💕

Lola will no longer be a breeding machine and will be spayed soon and live her life as a spoilt family dog🐶🦴
