🚨 URGENT APPEAL 🚨 HAVE YOU GOT ROOM IN YOUR HOME AND HEART FOR A FOSTER DOG?

Last month we welcomed a whopping 157 dogs through our doors of all different shapes, sizes and ages. We are full to the rafters and urgently need to move some dogs to create space in kennels. We've got pregnant dogs, puppies, young dogs, middle-aged dogs and golden oldies of all different breeds including Poodles, Vizlas, Pocket Bullies, Pointers, American Bulldogs, Lurchers, Weimeraners, Staffies and all crossbreeds in between.

10th September 2024 - World Su***de Prevention Day

Why is this relevant to the veterinary sector?
- 1 in 4 veterinary staff (vets, nurses, receptionist and managers) have experienced suicidal ideation
- Veterinary staff are 4x more likely to commit su***de than any other workforce in the UK
- 57% of Veterinary staff in the UK were verbally or physically abused in 2023
- 48% of Veterinary staff were abused online in 2023

Every one of us is a human being. We have thoughts and feelings. We try our best with the resources that we have, however just like every other human being there are limitations to what we can do.

We can not preform miracles, and we have to charge for our services because someone else is charging us for equipment or medicines or services or wages or tax and trust me that list goes on.

Sadly there is no NHS for animals in the UK, but there is a bloody brilliant veterinary sector and team in almost every village.

We speak for the majority when we say there has been days when we want to walk out and give up, and leave the profession but the job is a lifestyle and many of us won’t leave until we retire or if life catches us first.

Like I’ve said before in my posts, we sleep on the floor in kennels, we work way over our time, we cry with you and trust me when we can’t save an animal it keeps us up at night.

Some of us don’t see our children most days because we leave when they wake and return when they’re sleeping, others miss out on birthdays and Christmas to be on call and I know there’s a few vets out there (small animal, farm and equine) that couldn’t be present during the arrival of their children due to on call emergencies.

Yes, it’s what we signed up for but we didn’t sign up to suicidal thoughts and mental health illness due to burn out and bullying.

So next time you pick up the phone to your vets, before you speak a word just consider the statistics above and remember that person the other side of the phone or that person the other side of the consultation room is trying their best to help you - but we can not preform miracles and we are only human 🤍🐾

🌼 This is Daisy 🌼

Daisy is from Bridgend, a beautiful and strong girl came to see us very poorly with a suspected foreign body… she had been munching on something naughty. 😏 🍽️

Our veterinary nurses and vets got to work right away and after lots of investigations including bloods and x-rays 🩻, our team decided it was best to provide emergency surgery to have a look inside of her tummy 👀🧐

Once Daisy was asleep under anaesthetic and being cared for by our wonderful nurses (Danielle, Kelly & Hanna) - then our vet (Lacra) was able to look inside through a procedure called an exploratory laparotomy🗺️🔪👩🏻‍⚕️.

What we found was that Daisy had been eating non food items such as plastic bags 🚮, but this time it had got stuck in her intestines causing a linear foreign body! ⛔️‼️

Daisy’s intestines were feeling quite sorry for themselves, angry and inflamed😡, however our amazing team managed to salvage all of Daisy intestines and once the procedure was finished - Daisy was woken up from her anaesthetic and cared for by our nursing team into the night. ✨

The next day Daisy was already feeling so much better and by the next evening she was able to go home! 🏠

Foreign body’s are one of the most common emergencies that we see in the practice, and some can be so significant it can cause some of the intestines to die ☠️- this can cause infection and sometimes leads to a sad outcome 🐕🪽

We hope that she has learnt her lesson and Daisy doesn’t eat plastic bags anymore🤞

Hello Everyone,

This dude, a fine specimen of a gentleman cat is seeking his permanent home 🏠

This gentleman has a long term condition that needs medicating daily, however as a practice we are willing to cover the cost of his condition ongoing.

This gentleman has lived with us for many months after being handed into us, during his time here we have treated his condition, getting it under control and returned him to his usual happy self.

He is very relaxed around cats, dogs and people - He is litter trained and clean. He loves affection and attention, he loves kisses and to snuggle under the blanket.

If you believe you can provide this wonderful man a home, and offer him the love he deserves - Please get in touch 🤍

Thank you for considering loving our boy, he deserves the world 🌎. We will be devastated to see him leave our team, but we know that he deserves a family 🤍

The biggest Thankyou for your care and professionalism. My elderly parents sadly had to say Goodbye to their beautiful cat 2 weeks ago. After calling their vets and being told to drive her 20 miles for and extortionate sum as it was out of hours they thankfully called Mobivet South Wales - Home Visit Vets & Veterinary Practice. They were able to keep Tiggy as stress free at home and say the young lady vet that came was so lovely and so caring. This no doubt made a difficult time more bearable. Thankyou so much for caring.

Home visits are a great way to start socialising animals with the vets from a young age, and then once they are safe from 🦠 with their vaccinations all working you can begin to socialise them weekly or monthly with trips to the vets for weight checks and handling!

Fear free veterinary care is always the goal 🤍

This is Loki, an Irish Wolf Hound puppy just 16 weeks young! 🐣

Loki, a strong and brave pupper soldier, came to us this week, very poorly with Meningitis!

Our team pulled together and with lots of hardwork and help from Loki’s mum & dad 🤍

🚨 SCAM ALERT - missing pets 🚨

There is sadly a circulating scam targeting owners of missing pets. Owners are contacted and told that their pet has been found and details can be released after paying a fee.

Scammers try to use names of organisations and veterinary practices to sound official, including the RSPCA or the name of a local practice. Owners may be targeted through mobile numbers posted on missing pet online groups or posters.

We have been made aware of contact to owners with this scam and using our practice name as the location of their pet. This is obviously very distressing for all involved.

Where a pet is brought in to us as a stray or injured, all efforts are made to contact an owner via matching with our internal lost and found database, microchip details and sharing on social media.

We (and any other vet practice) will never ask for a fee to release a pet's details.

Please feel free to share to raise awareness.

This is Toffee 🤍 She came to see us today with Newport City Dogs Home Rehoming as she is very poorly, and now that she is in their care they’re trying their best to help her 💜

Did you know that we also take part in lots of charity work, we spend time supporting Newport City Dogs Home, Cats Protection Rural Teams (RCT, Aberdare & Merthyr) and also Hope Rescue with discounts to allow accessible veterinary care for animals that really need it - Alongside this work we help families to gain access to funding for urgent and needed veterinary care through Dogs Trust, Bluecross and RSPCA.

We pride our selves in our work as a veterinary practice within the wider community and our team are amazing at helping these guys out in the community, in kennels and also in the practice!

We’re very proud of our involvement in local charities and with our new upstairs offices and extra space it allows our current team to have more computers, telephones and auxiliary space to be able to offer support even further to local charities and families and clients alike and to all of our clients in general, to include those referred to us from other practice for home care 💜🐾

Tonight we had the biggest fright when our own Effie went missing.

Someone had left the side gate open and for some unknown reason for the first time in three years Effie decided to go on an adventure 🧳🐕

Thankfully she did not get far before a lovely neighbour Cerys and Adam found her and kept her safe.

However it was a sharp reminder to us as a family, because we realised that Effie did have a collar on but she didn’t have an ID tag with our details! This meant that the lovely people that took her didn’t have a way to contact us! Fortunately Social Media reunited us.

Anyway, why are we telling you this? Because we’re all human and we all forget to keep things up to date, but I hope this story reminds you as it it is to make sure your pets ID tags are place and most importantly microchips up to date 🐾🤍

ID tags are a legal requirement in Wales and must be worn with collars! With the owners name, address and contact details.

A big thank you to Cerys & Adam for taking Effie into their home and keeping her safe.

But also a huge thank you to the kind strangers Ella, Cathryn and Tilly the dog for helping me search for Effie 🐾🤍
