* * Hunt Games Closing Soon & Pooh 'Awards' * *

GAMES ! - Summer hunt games are running in both the Half Past Field and Parkour Park.

All correct entrants receive a free credit and also the chance to win an extra 10 credits in the prize draw at the end.

Just find and count up the number of white 'stones' and record your entry on a slip in the field shelter. It's really easy to enter.

The games coincide with school holidays (primarily to entertain youngsters and help with the cost of living) and so the closing date is approaching. If you haven't yet entered, there's still time until the 4th September.

POOH ! - It's compulsory for visitors to pick up after their own dog(s) but as a thank you for those that make extra effort to help keep the fields as clean as possible, poo 'Awards' are given out approximately 5 times a year.

Anyone can take part in any field. Just record 'wild' (missed) poo that you pick up or flag, on the Sign In / Out sheet and remember to write your FULL name clearly so that your record can be credited with pooh 'points'.

Congratulations to members who have received a pooh collection 'Award' for July / August. Emails have been sent out and a free extra credit has been added to your records.

* * Free Inductions, Bees, Hunt Game & After Dark * *

As the Training Paddock is closing at the end of September, Inductions in either Parkour Park, the Half Past Field or The Meadow that are REQUESTED by EXISTING Members BEFORE Wednesday 4th September (even if due to availability, the induction itself takes place after this date) will be FREE OF CHARGE. This offer applies to existing members only.

Bees - There is a non-aggressive bee colony in a hole in the ground in Parkour Park. It will be clearly marked and made inaccessible to canine noses, but please keep your dog(s) away from it if possible.

Hunt Game - Thank you to everybody who has entered the summer field hunt games that are running in Parkour Park and the Half Past Field. They are a great opportunity to 'win' a return visit for just £1 as all correct entrants get an extra credit added to their record as well as being entered into a draw to win a further 10 free credits. The game closes on the 3rd September, so there's still time to play if you would like to.

Finally, it's almost the end of the long summer daylight hours. Any person who wishes to visit outside of these hours from September onwards must sign an After Dark Disclaimer so that their record can be 'accredited' accordingly. This disclaimer can be completed online and is located under the Disclaimers heading on the left hand side of the website front page. Please note that After Dark Disclaimers are only valid for the year that they were done - i.e. 2023 DISCLAIMERS WILL NOT COVER VISITS IN 2024.

A big well done to Piper and Leo who have passed their Bronze Hoopers award.

Canine Hoopers is a low impact sport that is suitable for dogs of all sizes and ages. It is designed to be flowing with no sharp bends and suitable for most handlers, including those with limited mobility.

BFH is fortunate to have the support and help of International Dog Parkour Instructor and Qualified IMDT Trainer, Heather Jenkins, aka The Pawsitive Dawg Coach. Heather is also an Accredited Canine Hoopers UK Instructor.

Heather is able to offer both 1-1 individual lessons or group workshops at Bromsgrove Field Hire with up to 4 dogs in BOTH Canine Parkour and Hoopers. More information including how to contact Heather, is available on the Training & Awards page of the website.

* * New Ball & Fun in the Sand * *

Thanks to everyone who has sent in photos recently of their dogs enjoying the fields.

All fields have 'Dig Pits' and 'Splash Pools' for water and sand play so towels are recommended if you have a Springer Spaniel like Taz !

The Treibball Arena in The Training Paddock is also a firm favourite and a new doggie lightweight (but supposedly indestructible) large ball from the USA is being trialled at the moment as an alternative for larger dogs who get over excited and don't give the yoga balls a chance. It's the dark blue one in the photos.

Don't forget that there is an Overview Calendar on the website if you'd like to check the date or time of your booking before you come. Just get in touch for the password if unknown.

* * Summer Hunt Game * *

To coincide with the start of the school holidays, two hunts are now running - in the Half Past Field and Parkour Park

It's a great opportunity to keep yourself (or family members) entertained and win an extra return visit for just £1 as all correct entrants will have an additional credit added to their record.

It's easy to play - just walk round and record the number of white (summer-themed) 'stones' that are hidden in the field on an entry slip in the field shelter. There's one on the HPF sandpit for starters !

All correct entries will also be put into a September draw to win a further 10 free credits and there are complimentary sweets to reward young hunters.

* * Advance Notice: Reduced Opening Hours - 28/07/24 to 01/08/24 * *

The fields remain open as much as possible all year round although they run at 'half mast' if management is on a break within the UK to reduce potential incidents (e.g. overflowing pooh bins etc).

A reduced timetable and 'service' will be operating between Sunday 28th July and Thursday 1st August so please check the date and time of any bookings carefully before arriving and get in touch asap if in doubt.

Water butts, pooh bins and other supplies will be refreshed in advance of leaving, but general field maintenance and admin support will be limited during this time. The 'honesty shop' will also not be running.

Apologies for any inconvenience.

A big well done to Dexter, Murphy and Loki who have all passed their BFH Barkour Level 1 assessments in Parkour Park. Their rosettes and certificates are well deserved.

100% compostable orange complimentary pooh bags that fit the HandiScoop Pooper Scooper are now available and the biodegradable blue ones will be phased out.

Finally, the fields are looking fantastic at this time of year. Thanks to the hard work of the Field Management Team, the warmer weather, beautiful sunsets and abundance of flora - there is no better time to visit.

* * Water 'Station', Pooh Bags & Spring ! * *

The Field Maintenance Team (aka Carl, Rose & Simon) have been busy building a new Water Butt layout to trial first in the Half Past Field. It is hoped that it will stop mud from forming in front of it and also discourage larger dogs from jumping up and knocking the butt over.

The Pooh Bag Containers have also been upgraded and now have lids and drainage holes. Note that the blue bags are likely to be replaced with compostable orange ones this summer (that also fit the Pooper Scoopers) as these are one step on from just being biodegradable.

Finally, Spring has sprung ! Please discourage your dog(s) from chewing the lower branches of any trees - particularly the newly planted ones in Parkour Park. The trees are still in a delicate and youthful state so they need to be nurtured.

* * Mowing at Dusk * *

In between bursts of torrential rain and hail, The Meadow has had it's first mow of the season and looks enchanting against an evening sunset backdrop.

Don't forget that the charity raffle to win Pet Remedy goodies ends on Tuesday so please enter before then if you'd like a chance of winning.

The old Half Past Field scurry has been moved and replaced with an upgraded run.

It's 90% finished as there's still netting to go on so please bear with us.

In the meantime, have fun trying out the new layout - complete with (mud proof) grass topped rubber tiles and re-covered hurdles.

Don't forget that there is an Availability Overview calendar on the website where spaces can be viewed at a glance and existing bookings are able to be checked. The page is password protected for safety as it's not visible to the general public. Members should get in contact for the password, if not already known.

* * First Mow & Chewing * *

Mowing has re-started and each field has had a first 'trim'.

Whilst wear and tear to equipment in the fields is expected, please discourage your dog(s) from deliberately damaging property.

It's great that dogs love coming to the fields and are excited to be here, but if you know that your pet is orally destructive, please either give them a toy to carry as a distraction or pass the potentially chewable objects with a wide berth and with your dog under control.

It's disappointing to find jump poles in the condition below and not healthy for dogs to eat bits of plastic.

Finally, an artificial grass covered pallet has been added to Parkour Park to assist with training (e.g. tic-tacs). The pallet can be slanted at different heights depending on a dog's size and ability.

* * Dog Wanted For Loving Home **

It's a long shot, but if anyone knows of a dog that would like a loving home in the countryside with a kind retired lady and a small terrier as a companion, could they get in touch please.

Sadly, the lady's other dog has recently passed away from old age and both the terrier and owner are missing having another friend.

The lady and her home are well known to BFH and can be recommended. It would be a super place for a dog to live and they would be well looked after.

Ideally, the dog would be no bigger than a small Labrador, be house-trained and no older than about 3 or 4 years old. Breed is less important than personality as the dog needs to get on well with others and have a calm disposition.

Perhaps you know of someone who is elderly, moving to a care home or has passed away and they are no longer able to look after their pet ?

* * Parkour Park Timeslot Changes * *

Just a reminder that slot start times are changing in Parkour Park from today to increase the number of availability options for Members, now that the weather is (hopefully) improving.

The 'buffer' between visitors has been reduced from 30 minutes to 15 minutes.

Slots remain 1 hour long, but Members MUST leave on time, regardless of what time they arrive within their booked slot. This is so that react dogs are not near each other and so that there aren't any parking issues.

The new start times from today are: 7am (except Sundays), 8.15am, 9.30am, 10.45am, 12pm, 1.15pm, 2.30pm, 3.45pm, 5pm, 6.15pm & 7.30pm.

The Meadow's field shelter reorganisation is now complete and the Charity Raffle & Goodie Packs will soon be available in the Training Paddock and Half Past Field too.

The Sign In / Sign Out sheets have also been re-done and as sometimes it was proving difficult to award 'Pooh Collection Points' due to dubious handwriting or outdated car registrations or dog details on the database, there is a postcode request instead so our daughter (who processes the field shelter sheets) can search visitors' records more accurately. If you would prefer to not disclose your postcode, it's fine to leave the column blank, but please write your FULL name as clearly as possible.

Don't forget to continue to send in photos of your dog(s) enjoying the field as we love receiving them.

Lots of dogs who visit BFH are rescues, nervous, reactive or have anxiety issues.

Our links with Pet Remedy Limited, Eco It and other useful dog related companies and individuals, along with a desire to support local charities has meant that these wonderful 'Charity / Welcome Bags' are now available.

Starting in The Meadow, but soon to be available in the Training Paddock and Half Past Field shelters too, the packs are available to purchase if you would like one.

Just tick the Charity Bag column on the Sign In / Sign Out sheet and we'll be in touch to arrange to get it to you on or before your next visit.

Existing Members can buy the packs for £20. New Members will receive the pack at their first induction which costs £20. Subsequent (2nd+) inductions remain 1 credit or £10 (whichever is preferred).

£10 of any bag purchase or first induction is donated to charity. BFH is hoping to continue to raise money for The Basement Project charity in Bromsgrove and also for Bredon specialist dyslexia school in Tewkesbury who are running a fund raising appeal currently.

New Pet First Aid Kits have been purchased for all the field shelters in case of any emergencies.

Please don't forget to use the field's gate chain once inside - to alert others not to enter. Unfortunately one of the BFH team forgot this golden rule yesterday and a bad incident with two reactive dogs was only narrowly avoided.
