DON’T FORCE ME TO BE SOCIAL!
Do we like everyone we meet? Do we all enjoy socialising and spending time with lots of different people? I certainly don’t and refer to myself as a “caninetrovert” – a person that much prefers to spend time with dogs rather than people. Maybe I’m a little different to the “norm”, but be that as it may, we are all individuals with different personality styles and social preferences.

Some of us are extroverts, gaining energy from interacting with people; some of us introverts, who find people draining and need alone time to recharge our social batteries and some of us are somewhere in between.

If we acknowledge that we are all different in this way, we also need to acknowledge and accept that our dogs are similar.

They could be overly affectionate or fiercely independent, approachable or nervous, energetic or laid back, confident or cautious, sociable, tolerant, selective or reactive.

We may be really disappointed when our dogs turn out not to be the socialite we expected them to be.

Some may even see this as a behaviour problem that needs to be “fixed”. Sometimes it can be improved, especially if the cause is from a negative experience, but genetics, breed tendencies, individual personalities, health and age all contribute to tolerance levels and sociability.

Accept your dog for who they are, allow them to choose whether they want to be sociable or not, respect their choices and never force an interaction that your dog is not comfortable with.

I got my late German Shepherd ‘Freddie’ into Novice & A in obedience competitions around the country, if I would have persued further we would have made it to the regional group at Crufts. He also went through the high standard of becoming a Pets Of Therapy Dog which was not an easy accolade to obtain. He did me proud and I would love to pass on my experience and knowledge with obedience training.

Dogs bad behaviour isn’t always a matter of the breed, how it was brought up (even though that can be a factor), but what you put into your dog regarding diet it can become a problem. It’s like children the more E Numbers you put in the worse the behaviour. What you put in is what you get out. If you want any advice regarding diet or alternative supplements please feel free to contact me.🐕

Please, please, please take into consideration when walking your dog. I know it’s tempting to walk them when the weather is nice, but you don’t have a fur coat and no shoes! Walk them early morning and late afternoon, they are are your family, you wouldn’t put a baby in the same situation so don’t do it to your dogs 🐕

Please be aware this week that the temperature is going to be hot. Dogs don’t die from not going for a walk, either take them early in the morning or late evening when the temperature has cooled down. Please keep them cool and we’ll hydrated. Stay safe everyone. 🌞

Another great day of training with my grand cub Zeus. He thoroughly enjoyed it and actually did the jumps without running off with the pole🤣 I can’t recommend Wild Wuffas enough, you have the whole field, agility equipment, and a shelter and refreshments. Please support this local enterprise, it’s definitely worth it.
