We had an amazing time at the League of Friends Kent & Canterbury Hospital Summer Fair & Dog Show on Saturday! The fair will be officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Canterbury at 11am and then follows a great day out!
🐶There will be a dog show registration point that opens from 11am-midday and then judging begins from 12.15.
There will be 8 classes in total and rosettes for places 1-4.

We will be joined by the brilliant Cabin FM team who will be announcing and playing great music. There will be live entertainment too and we’re delighted that The Bay Cats and The City of Canterbury Band will be with us and not to be missed. 🎶
🧒There will be a Children’s area with games, face painting, and a kids shop.
Plus prize bingo, and stalls selling bric -a-brac, plants, books, jewellery and a tombola!
👉In addition there will be health and wellbeing information stalls, hospital recruitment and the Ambulance service.
🚌The team from Happy Here will be joining us with their wellbeing Happy Here Bus.

🍴There will be plenty of food and drink, with a BBQ, cakes, cream teas, slushes, snacks and drinks!

Kate isn’t only co-director of WLP Canterbury, she is also Holly’s big sister! Kate loves working hand-in-hand with Holly, building the branch together to offer services they are both proud of.
Kate takes great pride overseeing the daycare, boarding and house-sitting services. She understands the importance of trust and promises our pet families a safe, nurturing home for their pawsome pets while they are away – as well as love, play, fun walks and the best cuddles of course! (it’s a tough job…!).
As Kate will tell you, if the staycations aren’t good enough for her cockerpoo, Archie, they aren’t good enough for any of our furry friends! Luckily, Archie is always on hand to give his approval to our fantastic team of host families! 🐶

June's pet of the month winner is Sally, who has walks with the our Bridgend branch ran by the lovely Emma! 🐶
Sally has been having walks with Bridgend since April 2023. Her owner had another walker previous who left them in the Lurch. But luckily, Bridgend was on hand to take over!
Laura, one of Emma's walkers and pet sitters has said - ’I'd love to vote for Sally, she used to be so shy on walks but now she strides ahead and enjoys meeting the other dogs.🐕
Emma has also added - 'Sally never used to go to the toilet on walks, now she is. She would have to be picked up to go into the car, now she jumps in herself. Many things she's grown more confidence with because we've been calm with her, taken our time introducing dogs suitable to her and working with her owner to make sure she gets the best care.'

Brynn joined the We Love Pets team when we first started up and, despite a couple of sojourns to university, has been a constant and VERY welcome presence ever since.
He's been an ardent dog-lover his whole life and grew up with both dogs and cats. He got into professional dog walking when his two elderly golden retrievers could no longer manage long walks, and he realised he had lots of energy to burn!
Although Brynn is loving his university course, he still takes every opportunity to work with We Love Pets when he's back in Kent because, in his words, it's the best job in the world!

Adam has been working for We Love Pets for a year, but he's been walking dogs for much, much longer. His experience as a dog walker makes him an excellent team member, but it's his passionate and caring nature that makes him a favourite with our canine clients.
Adam sadly lost his own dog shortly before he joined us, but finds that looking after our wonderful animals helps to fill the hole in his heart.

Our newest team member Jess is a natural with animals, and her calm, gentle nature makes her the perfect walker for both calming down boisterous dogs and giving confidence to anxious ones.
Jess has always been surrounded by animals, having grown up with dogs and rabbits, and has completed a college course in Animal Management.
Rehabilitation can be an important part of our work:
Staff favourite Neville was recently very poorly , so it's been short walks and lots of enriching play. Neville and his owners are such an important part of the We Love Pets family, so it's wonderful to see him getting back to his old, fun loving self... even if he hasn't quite got the hang of the game! 🐾
Our pet of the month winner for May is... 🥁
The lovely Basil who has walks with Elkie, owner of the Portsmouth branch.
They have been looking after Basil since he was four month old. He enjoys his walks with the branch and loves nothing more than a ball and swimming! 🏊♀️
He has been doing a lot of training and has recently qualified as an autism therapy dog! He goes to work a couple of days a week with his mum and they have the pleasure of looking after him the rest of the week.

WHAT IS SOCIAL WALKING? 🚶🐾🐕
Many dogs are happy being the only dog in a household (and some prefer it!), but dogs are very social animals and you've probably found that your pup loves to play with their friends on their daily walks. At We Love Pets, we talk to our clients about their dog's play habits and try to set them up with other dogs on 'play dates' so they get some great socialisation along with their exercise.
This week we introduced Babs and Lola for a play date and look how much fun they're having!
ARE SOCIAL WALKS THE SAME AS PACK WALKING?
No they are not. Pack walking is where one walker takes 5 or more dogs at a time, and this is prohibited in many public spaces - our social walks are carefully planned to bring like minded animals together and form new doggy friendships!
WE'RE NOT JUST DOG WALKERS! 🐕
At We Love Pets, we can do 'pop-in' visits from 20 minutes to 2 hours to look after your cats/ chinchillas/guineas/ bearded dragons/ insert anyone we missed here!

Pop-ins are also great for:
•young puppies or senior dogs who don't require walks
•disabled or rehabilitating dogs who need some extra care
•dogs who already get enough walks during the day but might need a little extra company at times

Louise is a very special part of the We Love Pets team, having been with us from the beginning! She grew up surrounded by animals, and they seem to love her as much as she loves them.
Louise is at her happiest exploring the local woodlands with a dog or two in tow and knows all the best walks. For her, this is the perfect job, and for us, she is the perfect employee!

IMPORTANT NOTICE Now that the temperature is rising, it's more important than ever to keep your dogs (and yourself) well hydrated on walks. And remember, if the ground is too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws, so plan your walks accordingly. While most dogs are excited for their walk whether it's their first time or their hundredth, some pups need a little extra encouragement... Rupert is an anxious chow chow who's had some health problems and is very wary of new people, especially in his house. When his owners wanted to go away for a few days, they asked We Love Pets walker Liz to take on the job of walking him. Knowing Rupert's history, Liz started popping in twice a week, in order to get him used to a new face as gently as possible. It wasn't easy, but with lots of patience and understanding, Liz was able to win Rupert's trust: and a wonderful friendship blossomed 💓
