On Sunday 11th of August, 11 members of our Wallace Vets dream team will be taking on the 21.5 mile, Dundee Kiltwalk!!

This will be a massive challenge for most of us but it's one we're keen to tackle in order to raise vital funds for Vetlife, a wonderful charity who work tirelessly to support our teams in the Veterinary industry, and their families, who are suffering from emotional, health, or financial concerns.

Sadly, the Veterinary community continues to experience significantly high levels of depression and su***de. Vetlife works to ensure that those engaged in the Veterinary community are aware of available assistance, and signposts them to sources of help should they, or a colleague, be in need of support.

Vetlife truly is a lifeline to many of us in the Veterinary world and we’re excited to take on this challenge in order to give something back and ensure that they can continue to carry out the life saving work that they do!

So, come rain or shine, pain or pleasure, smiles or tears, we’ll be hiking the 21.5 miles from St.Andrews to Dundee, via Tentsmuir, resisting the temptation to stop at Salt And Pine for sweet treats on our way past!

If you’d like to support our wee team in our efforts, and help us raise money for a great cause, please sponsor us! All donations are massively appreciated and will help us power on through the aches & pains:- https://www.justgiving.com/team/wwanderer

Thanks you all so much in advance - keep your eyes peeled for an update on how we fair on the big day☺️💚💪🏻

There's nothing quite like a basket of fresh out the oven English Bulldog babies to help chase away those midweek blues!

These perfect pups popped into our Broughty Ferry practice to see Vet, Katherine, earlier this week for their first health checks and worming! We're pleased to report that all went well and these wee guys n gals are thriving!

At only 4 weeks old, these babies are still teeny tiny (all weighing less than 1.5kg), and we're super excited to see what big, burly Bulldogs they grow up to become🥰🐾

Meet Shadow, a very lucky wee cat who was recently given a new home & a brand new start in life.

Shadow popped into our Broughty Ferry practice this week, to see vet Tricia, and made himself right at home in her consultation room! This gorgeous boy took his time to investigate the environment before deciding that perching right next to Tricia beside the computer was the best vantage point.

Handsome Shadow was a little star and seemed to enjoy the attention during his health check.

Giving cats the chance to investigate the space around them is a great chance for the vet to observe from a distance, whilst giving the cat a chance to feel more in control and less worried about the ordeal.

We wish you lots of luck in your new home, Shadow🥰🐾

Charlotte, Zara, Lori & Mairi had an amazing morning co-hosting the Broughty Ferry Gala Week Dog Show this afternoon with Parkside Vets!

We had the pleasure of meeting lots of incredible animals & loved judging some of the categories in the pet show (although we wanted to give rosettes to them all!!).

We particularly loved the animals who entered into the ‘best dressed’ category. A Horse dressed as a snail, a Bearded Dragon in a kilt & a Tortoise impersonating a Dinosaur really are next level impressive😍👏🏻

Thanks so much to the Brought Ferry Gala committee for inviting us along, to Parkside Veterinary Group for co-hosting with us & to each & every one of the awesome people who came to speak to us & let us swoon over your pets!

We are unbelievably proud of two of our incredible vets, Silvia, and locum Vet, Susan, who have just returned from a voluntary trip to Tanzania with the incredible Four Steps to Freedom charity.

These two, along with a group of other awesome animal hero's, headed out to Mafia Island with the aim of conducting Rabies vaccinations & sterilisation surgeries on the countless number of stray, free-roaming dogs and cats that inhabit this beautiful Island. The goal of this trip was to help control the population of stray animals, to reduce the risk of Rabies and to share their expertise with local Vets in the hope that there will soon be a permanent clinic on the Island.

During their trip, Silvia and Susan were involved in neutering a staggering 144 dogs/cats, as well as providing treatment to a few injured ones they came into contact with along the way. These guys also helped train a newly qualified local Vet and Vet nurse who will now be well equipped to carry on their incredible work and the groups mission on their own.

Silvia and Susan, we're in awe of you & the groups outstanding efforts and are so proud to have you as a part of our Wallace Vets family. You have helped so many animals during your time in Tanzania and ensured that they'll be cared for well into the future by passing on your knowledge and skills. A massive well done to you both and to everyone else who was involved in this incredible mission.

If any of you, our lovely clients, would like to find out more about this brilliant charity & the work they do, or would like to support their ongoing efforts, you can do so here:- https://donorbox.org/donate-mafia-island 🥰💚

Rango, the stunning 2 year old Bearded Dragon, popped in to see us recently as he was having a little trouble with constipation. Thankfully, vet Becky, was able to get him back on track and he left feeling a lot lighter than he was when he came in!!

Here he is, posing like the king he is, with RVN Dionne who was super excited to get a Beardie cuddle🥰🐾

Although we haven't had much of a summer as of yet, we remain ever hopeful that the warmer weather will come back to stay and, if it does, we thought we'd provide some tips on keeping your pets hydrated when they need it most...

🐾 Ensure water is changed and kept fresh throughout the day
🐾 Place different bowls in various locations
🐾 Add pet friendly flavouring to water (chicken or beef broth)
🐾 Use a water fountain

Cats:-
🐈 Ensure water is changed and kept fresh throughout the day
🐈‍⬛ Place different bowls in various locations
🐈 Offer a variety of water sources
🐈‍⬛ Keep water away from litter trays
🐈 Add pet friendly flavouring to water (tuna, chicken or beef broth)
🐈‍⬛ Feed moisture rich food

Rabbits:-
🐇 Let them choose whether they prefer to drink out of a bowl or bottle (offer both if unsure)
🐇 Leave water on their daily greens after washing them
🐇 Add fragrant greens into their water (basil or mint)
🐇 Serve water at room temperature
🐇 If fussy, bottled/filtered water can be given

As always, if you are concerned that your pet may not be drinking enough or may be dehydrated, please give us a call or drop us a message on PetsApp and we'll be more than happy to help☺️💚

🐾First visit Friday🐾

This wee topper is Todd, the 12 week old Staffie x Rottweiler, who was recently re-homed by the awesome team at Brown Street Kennels and given his very best 2nd chance at life!

Todd and his siblings didn't have the best start but, luckily, he was scooped up by one of Brown Streets most dedicated volunteers who simply couldn't resist those gorgeous puppy dog eyes and is now living his best life!

This wee fella is the sweetest natured pup who happily gave us all of the kisses and cuddles we could ask for while he was in to see us for his 2nd vaccinations this week.

Todd's mum has been well informed that we're going to need regular visits and pupdates so that we can keep tabs on how our newest wee heartthrob is doing🥹💚

Double trouble😍

Earlier this week, our Carnoustie practice had the pleasure of seeing Reggie and his brother Chester, who are 10 week old Collie/GSD puppies!

This wee dream team were so big and brave for their 2nd vaccinations and were the perfect posers when vet, Katherine, fell in love and needed a picture to remember them by!

We're so excited to watch these little guys grow and to see how they turn out! Enjoy getting out on your big boy walkies you beautiful pair🥰💚

🩺Surgical Sunday🩺

Gorgeous 7 year old black Labrador Gunner, who should know by now not to eat things that most would class as inedible, decided to surprise his owner with a belly full of something that definitely wasn't food....

Gunner came in to see us with persistent vomiting one evening which was treated with an anti sickness injection and some fluid therapy to maintain his hydration.

Sadly, despite the anti sickness injection and fluids, Gunner continued to vomit and became quite poorly which caused his owners no end of worry! Thankfully, this lucky lad's mum is a vet nurse, who was actually only two weeks into her new job with us, so it was decided to sedate him to get some x-rays and see if we could get to the bottom of the problem that way!

Shockingly, Gunner's x-rays showed 5 rather untoward objects sitting in his stomach. This meant that he needed to undergo Gastrotomy surgery which would involve opening up his stomach to remove the foreign objects inside to prevent him from deteriorating further.

This big handsome had a sleepover in our Broughty Ferry practice with us so that he could receive fluid therapy to keep him hydrated, and be closely monitored by the night team, with regular checks and pain relief to ensure he was as comfortable as possible post op.

Thankfully, Gunner recovered quickly and, needless to say, his mum now keeps a very close eye on what mischief he’s getting up to when out on walks!

Can anyone hazard a guess as to what it was that this cheeky Labrador had eaten??🙈🤔

🕊Deceased cat🕊

Sadly, our Broughty Ferry practice have had a deceased cat handed in after having been involved in a RTA.

This cat was found by a concerned member of the public last night, on Dundee Road, just passed the Bell Rock restaurant in Arbroath. He is an entire male who is ginger and white in colouration. His body is mainly white but his face and tail are ginger and there are ginger patches on his body.

Unfortunately, this boy wasn't wearing a collar and is not microchipped so we're struggling to trace his owners and get him back home where he belongs.

If you think you may know who this cat belongs to, please give our Broughty Ferry practice a call on, 01382 549600.

As always, your comments and shares are massively appreciated💚

🐾Tongue out Tuesday🐾

Here we have gorgeous Zander, one of our Broughty Ferry practices favourite wee regulars!

Zander is one of our most senior clients, at an incredible 18 years & 9 months, and he’s still going strong!!

Being a gentleman of a certain age, Zander has Arthritis, which is currently being well managed with a monthly Solensia injection. This, as well as having a super attentive & devoted human mumma, helps him stay pain free & allows him to remain as mobile as the mood takes him.

Zander adores spending his retirement days curled up in a comfy bed, snoozing next to the cozy radiator, dreaming of all of the mischief him & his late brother, Jake, got up to in days gone by. He also loves to keep his mum on her toes by getting her up multiple times throughout the night demanding food!

You may not enjoy a trip to the vets, Zand, but we very much enjoy seeing you🥰💚

It's fair to say that this adorably fluffy baby Goose, who we've affectionately named Ryan Gosling, was the absolute highlight of vet, Mairi's, day! I'm not sure if you can tell how happy she is from this picture?😂

This wee guy came in to see us with a swollen foot and was quickly prescribed some anti-inflammatories and cuddles, lots of cuddles. Get well soon little fellow🥰💚

🩺Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month🩺

Let's hear it for the unsung heroes of the animal world - Veterinary Nurses!

These dedicated folks are the backbone of any Veterinary practice. They shower our furry, feathered, and scaled friends with so much love and care, all while working tirelessly alongside our Vets to ensure their well-being and make sure they're given ALL of the snuggles while in our care.

Here's just some of the reasons why we should all be bursting with appreciation for Vet Nurses:

💚Animal advocates - these guys have a massive passion for animals and continually go above and beyond to make them feel comfortable and safe during often scary vet visits
💚Medical marvels - they assist Vets in complex procedures, take X-Rays, administer medication, and provide critical aftercare. They're the ultimate teammates!
💚Educator extraordinaire's - Vet Nurses patiently explain, answer our worried questions, and guide us on proper pet care at home, offering a calming presence and a wealth of knowledge as well as a sympathetic shoulder and a listening ear

Our Wallace family would be nothing without our team of fantastic RVN's who look after us all and make sure everything is running smoothly!

So next time you're at the Vets, take a moment to thank your amazing Vet Nurse! Their dedication, skill, and compassion make a world of difference for animals, their humans, and every member of staff within a Veterinary practice💚🐾

Thank you to everyone who came to chat to us - we absolutely love getting out to these wonderful events, meeting you all, and getting to snuggle ALL the dogs!

Have you ever seen a smilier duo than Leo and Tucker?!

These gorgeous Goldie's came in to see us for their booster vaccinations and health checks recently and definitely stole some hearts with their massive ray of sunshine vibes!

Leo is 8 years old and has the calmest, sweetest of natures while, little brother Tucker, at only 11 months, is a much bouncier boy but still with the loveliest temperament. These two are a complete credit to their owners and were a dream to have in practice - come back and see us soon pups🥰💚

Everyone deserves to have seen a wee, pristine, Westie puppy pile at least once in their lifetime🥹

These wee toppers popped in to see our lovely vet, Charlotte, for their first vaccinations and microchips recently and were the bravest little 8 week old beans!

Their gorgeous mum, Skye, also had health check to make sure that she's bounced back well after having her babies and was the loveliest girl! If this gang are anything like her then their new owners are in for a treat!

We wish Flora, Jock, Shug and Jess all the very best in their new 5* homes - we hope to see you again when you're bigger boys and girls🥰💚

🐾Staff pet Saturday🐾

Beautiful boy Bracken is the proud owner of one of our PAWsome receptionists! He is 1 year, 8 months old and has been a member of the Wallace family since he was a wee 8 week old pudding - we've adored watching him grow into the strapping young lad he is today!

This big lad is super sooky, affectionate and a very good boy but, like a lot of pets, has found coming to the vets a bit of a nerve wracking experience. Bracken's mum noticed how worried he was and has been bringing him in for regular desensitisation appointments with our amazing nursing team.

These appointments are specifically designed for nervous pets and gives them the opportunity to come in to the practice, get used to the sounds, smells and general goings on gradually, and meet the team in a treatment free setting to help them associate vet visits with cuddles and treats instead of worry and uncertainty.

We are delighted to say that, after regular appointments, Bracken has gone from being a very worried boy who could barely even make it through the front door, to a big brave lad who will confidently stroll into the consultation room and allow our team to give him a health check without panic which is a huge milestone to have reached. Well done gorgeous boy!!

We want our clients pets to be as relaxed and carefree as possible when coming in to see us but completely understand that this is not always going to be the case which is why we believe that these appointments are worth their weight in gold.

If you think that your pet might benefit from a dessensitisation appointment with our nursing team, please get in touch to find out more! And, even better, if your pet is a member of our Pet Care Plan, these appointments will be free of charge☺️🐾

Happy National Pet Day to all of you wonderful humans out there and your awesome animal besties🤩🥳

We know that life is hectic, things get in the way, and we don't always have time to celebrate our pets the way we'd like to. So, today, lets give them that extra biscuit, spend 5 more minutes playing fetch or getting dragged around the house in a ferocious game of tug of war, take out their favourite brush and give them a wee pamper session, go to their favourite place for a lovely walk in the sunshine, or just spend some quality time snuggling with them on the couch in front of the TV.

Our pets are a never ending source of entertainment, love, laughter, joy and sometimes even frustration, but we wouldn't have them any other way! They love us unconditionally, without judgment or criticism, provide a constant listening ear and support when we need them the most and fill the role of best friend to perfection.

So, whether we're celebrating current companions, or raising a glass to those no longer with us, but forever in our hearts, here's to our much loved pets!

We'd love to see pictures of your furry family members in the comments below🥰💚
