Happy Birthday to the Mighty Mouse! 🥳
I LOVE Sundays! Especially today - after a week of chasing my tail it’s been a day of quiet and reflection for me and the dogs, with a teeny-weeny bit of prep for 2 prospective client calls tomorrow and Tuesday. Looking forward to our late evening walk in the cool. #sundayfunday #restandrelaxation #worklifebalance #cotswolddogs #separationanxietytrainer
Gorgeous skies at sunset this evening along the Monarch Way in the Cotswolds. The first day of meteorological Autumn. Enjoy your weekend! 🥰
From me to y’all… Wishing you a great Bank Holiday weekend! ❤️
Noise sensitivity is a challenge for some dogs (and their folks!). I was reminded of this yesterday when our walk in this beautiful ancient woodland of oak trees coincided with the flying circuits of this military aircraft- thus was one of five circuits over the woodland. I was ready to counter-condition to pair the noise with something yummy, but they appeared cool with it, continued sniffing and exploring, so I kept the sweeties in my pocket. Today, Mouse the BT has been super-sensitive to noises outside our home, so perhaps he was more affected than I judged, and some trigger-stacking was going on as the plane circled. We’ve been working with layering sound today to ‘mute’ what’s going on outside, doing some trick training, sniffing games, and the ostrich bone came out of the cupboard for a good old chew. Quite a few dogs with separation anxiety also are sensitive to noise. I will always give you strategies to help with this within our SA training programme. #dogsofinstagram #noisesensitivity #separationanxietydog #positivedogtraining #militaryaviation #cotswolddogs
Touch tag is a favourite game for Mouse. 🐭 It gives him a focus around distractions. It’s often frustrating and stressful living with a dog with anxiety, particularly separation anxiety, so playing Touch Tag gives us positive and joyful play to overlay those other times. If you would like a handout to learn how to play Touch Tag with your dog, tap to follow @thesepanxmentor and I’ll send you my handout. #dogseparationanxiety #dogsofinstagram #separationanxietytrainer #playfuldog #anxiousdog #positivedogtraining
It's a frequent question I get asked - if I get another dog will this help my dog's separation anxiety? The answer is, it depends on a lot of factors and a lot of luck! And in most cases, unfortunately, no it won't help at all.
Even if your dog with SA has lived successfully with another dog before, that was that dog. All dog's are individuals and there is no guarantee that a successful trusting companionship can be built between your dog and another.
Even if your dog is pro-social towards many dogs, they may not be so social within their home and particularly when they are stressed. It takes time for dogs to get to know each other and to share space when there are no factors that cause stress. SA is a highly stressful condition, and not only for the dog. Would you be willing to risk this not working out and having to re-home a dog if this didn't work out as planned?
There is a real risk of a new dog learning to become stressed on the absence of the human family. Dog's learn from each other! You had 1 dog with SA; now you have 2 - double the heartache.
There's a significant chance that another dog will make diddly-squat difference to your dog's SA. His or her feelings are about you and the rest of the family leaving him/ her alone. Another dog isn't another human. Your dog's feelings won't change just because there's another dog in the house.
There are lots of risks and very small potential benefits. Let's look at this a different way.
Effective training to help your dog change his or her feelings about being left alone is readily available. This training protocol is based on over 20 years of practice, research and evolution/ development. It works!
Let's do this, one dog at a time. 🥰 #separationanxietydog #certifiedseparationanxietytrainer #dogsofinstagram #positivedogtraining
Plateaus in training are common and normal. That smooth upward learning curve almost never happens. We look for overall progress over consistent progress. #separationanxietytrainer #dogsofinstagram #dogtraineruk #anxiousdog

The beginning of my day starts with checking in with clients on their feedback and outcomes of the previous day's SA training. Client's feedback and observations provides the basis for this new day's training plan - should we push a bit today? SA clients are awesome - extra specially committed to training and so clever at learning about their dog communicates. #separationanxietydog #dogpeople #missionaccomplished

While rehabilitating dogs with Separation Anxiety, it's so important not to leave them alone outside planned training sessions and for longer than they can cope with. Building absence duration can be completely demolished by breaking this code. Finding support within your community is vital to success and part of my contract with you, is to help you find that support. We are always working together! #separationanxietytraining #positivedogtraining ##supportingthecommunity
Progress with SA training can be slow sometimes; be confident that I support and hold you up through these times. #slowisthenewfast #separationanxietyindogs #anxiousdogs
