RSPCA Felledge Animal and Equine Centre

RSPCA Felledge Animal and Equine Centre We take in animals from RSPCA Inspectors due to concerns involving cruelty, neglect, abandonment and injury. We care for cats, dogs and horses.

These animals are cared for and rehabilitated on site and then rehomed from our Centre in County Durham. The RSPCA Felledge Animal Centre is a safe haven which provides specialist treatment and rehabilitation to dogs, cats and horses who have suffered cruelty and neglect throughout the North East. We work to give unwanted and mistreated animals a second chance and find loving new homes for them. O

ur staff and volunteers not only work for the benefit of animals, but for local people too, through the promotion of free RSPCA services such as Pet Retreat and Home for Life. Our volunteer regional speakers also give a voice to the neglected animals we work with and promote responsible pet ownership to community groups. In addition to this we also organise events which aim to increase the profile of the RSPCA in the North East and also raise vital funds to continue our work against animal cruelty. If you would like further details about our future events or volunteering opportunities please contact us.

✨ HAPPILY EVER AFTER ✨

While most dogs love a normal home life there are others who just really need a job to do, this was the case for Belgian Malinois Betty.

Luckily an Officer from a local prison service was in need of a new dog when his last retired and became his pet dog instead. Betty was just what he needed and initial assessments went well.

After weeks of training we've now been told that Betty has passed her assessments with flying colours and has LOVED being kept busy with her new line of work.

Betty's work partner reports "She’s turned into such a sweatheart at home with me but a right hardcase at work so the perfect balance!"

We wish Betty so much happiness in her new family and job! 🧑

One week to go until compulsory cat microchipping comes into force in England! ⏳

This means that you must have your cat microchipped by June 10th.

Riggs was found and scanned for a microchip. He had been missing for four years! Thanks to the power of microchipping, he was reunited with his owner.

Are you interested in making a difference to a rescue dog? We're looking for special people who can offer a temporary home to a dog who has been rescued due to neglect or cruelty 😒

Fostering is very much about rehabilitating the dog to help them become a well-rounded, happy individual to assist with their journey to a forever home.

The ideal home would fit the following criteria:
πŸ• Be able to offer a temporary home to a dog for weeks or months at a time (they would be boarded with us if you had any holidays planned)
🐾️ Any other dogs in the property would be neutered
🏑 Your home will have it's own secure yard or garden with a fence of at least 5 foot tall on all sides
πŸš— You will have access to your own car in case of veterinary emergencies
πŸ‘₯ Have someone around for a good portion of the day while they settle in in case of separation anxiety
🐢 Be happy to learn about modern dog training techniques and carry out basic training with a foster dog

If you think you can offer a dog a foster home please read more and apply here:

We're immensely honoured, and absolutely delighted, that His Majesty King Charles III has chosen to become our new Royal Patron.

Our Royal connection goes back more than 180 years, and it was His Majesty’s great, great, great grandmother Queen Victoria who became our first ever Patron in 1840 - allowing us to use the 'Royal' in our name. Welcoming His Majesty as our patron builds on our long relationship with Queen Elizabeth II, who was our patron for 70 years. During her reign she oversaw huge advancements for animal welfare, from tougher sentencing for animal offences, fur farming banned, the end of battery cages for hens, the last wild animal in circuses and animal sentience recognised.

The Monarch has a huge passion for wildlife and nature and his continued support for us and the future of animal welfare is invaluable. There are huge challenges facing animals from the cost of living crisis, climate change, habitat loss and intensive farming. His Majesty’s powerful voice for nature and regenerative farming will be vital in raising the profile of animal welfare and inspire more people than ever to create a better world for every animal.

As we celebrate our 200th anniversary this year, we look forward to continuing our close and enduring association with the Monarch and the Royal Family; steadfast in our belief that the UK is, and always will be, a nation of animal lovers, and optimistic at what we can achieve together for animal welfare.

Sammy was rescued after he was abandoned by his previous owner. He was found locked in a home along with a female dog and their 5 puppies.

Sammy was initially really stressed about coming into rescue kennels and found the other dogs around him scary 😒. After lots of help from our team he's made amazing progress and now has so many new dog friends.

He's now on the search for his new home 🏑 so if you're ready to start a new life with a rescue dog read more and apply to adopt here:

The littlest mlem πŸ˜› from Willow.

Willow is a sweet 2 year old girl who is looking for a home after the RSPCA were made aware of a concern for her welfare due to unsuitable living conditions.

Willow love fuss and attention and doesn't mind being picked up. Since she's so easy going she'd be suitable to live in a family with young children.

An 11-month-old American bulldog who was found severely emaciated in a filthy cage at a property in last August is now living life to the fullest since being adopted from our Centre at the beginning of this year.
⁣
Nala was signed over to us and rushed for veterinary care after suffering from extreme starvation. The stains on her legs suggest that she also had to lie in her own faeces and urine for a prolonged time. ⁣
⁣
Despite her rough start to life, she now goes by the name Penny and has made a miraculous recovery! She adores everyone and everything, including her two feline siblings.⁣
⁣
Join us in wishing Penny all the best in her new life in the comments! 🐾 ⁣

We joined forces with the amazing Cleveland Fire Brigade UK to rescue a dog from a 15ft-deep concrete shaft in Stockton-on-Tees that was filled with contaminated water.

It's likely he had been stuck there for several days and is lucky to be alive. Although he has been very poorly and weak, he is getting stronger every day.

Without being able to see down the shaft properly, the dog walker who found him initially thought he was a badger, so he has now been given this special name πŸ’™

We need your help to find out where Badger came from. If you have any information please call 0300 123 8018.

Looking for a feline who prefers exploring the great outdoors rather than curling up on your lap? A farm cat like Archie and Snowy could be the perfect kitty for you 🐱

These independent cats were adopted from RSPCA Felledge Animal and Equine Centre and now live in large outbuildings with little human interaction. They get to roam around outdoors during the day and return to their outbuilding for a cat nap at night!

Welcome to Felledge!

The RSPCA Felledge Animal Centre is a safe haven which provides specialist treatment and rehabilitation to dogs, cats and horses who have suffered cruelty and neglect throughout the North East. We work to give unwanted and mistreated animals a second chance and find loving new homes for them. We have been rehabilitating and rehoming cats since December 2006 and dogs since July 2010 when work on our kennels was completed. We also have a brilliant Equine Centre next door whose staff do excellent work with rescue horses and ponies. Our centre specialises in taking on animals that have come into RSPCA care through our amazing Inspectors due to cruelty, neglect and abandonment, the posts that follow will be their stories and updates from the centre.
