Please don't forget to apply for exception for your XL Bully type dogs! The deadline is approaching and it is better to get it sorted sooner rather than later just in case there are any issues with the process or if the website gets busy with an influx of people trying to get on at the same time.

As always, I am happy to help with muzzle training and going forward I am insured to work with XL Bullies with my insurance so long as certain conditions are met.

For more information on the exception process, please see the government website. Third party liability insurance for XL's and banned breed types can be purchased via the Dogs Trust (https://www.dogstrust.org.uk/dog-advice/life-with-your-dog/at-home/american-bully-xl).

There are some dog law specialist on Facebook too should you ever need them (I hope that you don't but this is always useful information to have should you need it).

Don’t Ban Me - Licence Me
My Dog Has Bitten - DDA UK
Save Our Seized Dogs-Putting BSL to Sleep UK
Cooper & Co: Doglaw
Four Legs Law - part of Cohen Cramer Solicitors

There are also Facebook groups that can help with finding the right muzzle for your dog that ensure they have enough room to pant that I can provide if needed.

If your dog is bothered by the fireworks try playing Taiko Drumming. It seems to camouflage the bangs better than things like classical music (based on my highly non-scientific study of one!).

It’s made a huge difference to Charlie who is not a fan of fireworks!

Important information about XL Bully Ban

Please see the link below for the information that has been released today in regards to the

If you own an XL Bully, or know anyone who does, please feel free to contact me in regards to any training support you may need, including muzzle training.

We’ve added XL Bully type dogs to the list of breeds banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act 🚫

From 31 December 2023 breeding, selling, advertising, rehoming, abandoning and allowing an XL Bully dog to stray will be illegal.

These dogs must also be on a lead and muzzled in public from 31 December.

If you wish to keep your XL Bully type dog, you have until the end of January to register them and comply with strict requirements.

Details on the exemption process will be provided in due course.

New classes are starting soon!

On the 21st July we have new terms for two of our classes starting in Stedham.

Puppy classes begin at 6pm and are suitable for puppies under the age of 24 weeks. Throughout the 6 week term we will cover many of the foundations of puppy training to start you off on the right paw as well as covering the most common puppy issues and how to deal with them (biting, jumping up, toilet training etc)

Improvers classes begin at 7pm and is perfect for anyone who has trained with me before or are at the start of their training journey - as the name suggests we focus on improving basic training skills and adding distance, distraction and duration more consistently in order to really solidify learning.

Classes are kept small to give a good trainer to dog ratio and booking is essential to secure your place.

howlsprowls.com has more details about these classes, as well as our booking pages which can be found here:

If you have any questions at all, please do get in touch and I hope to welcome you and your dog to Howls & Prowls Dog Training very soon! 🐾

Are you looking to give your furry friend some extra training? Maybe you have been to our puppy class and want to carry on your training with your soon to be adolescent dog. Our life skills dog training classes are perfect for dogs over 5 months old who are looking to learn foundational skills.

Today is Pet Remembrance Day

I want to dedicate this post to all the dogs that we have loved and lost. It is the saddest and most difficult thing to deal with when we share our lives with canine companions.

As a dog trainer, I like to build a bond with my clients and their dogs and it truly saddens me when the rainbow bridge beckons.

Part of what I offer as your dog trainer is support throughout the lifetime of your dog, even during the hardest parts.

As some of you may know, I learnt to make keepsake jewellery a few years ago and I usually have in stock inkless wipes to be able to take paw prints of your beloved dog. It was a massive comfort to me when my family lost our dog in 2017 - it was a week after I did my first jewellery course and I didn't think I would ever get Misty's print. I managed it because there was a perfect print left on the patio door.

The pictures below are of my families dogs that we have lost. Both rescues, both Staffordshire Bull Terriers and both very much loved parts of the family and missed daily.

Misty came to us in 2010 and we lost her unexpectedly in 2017.

Poppy came home later in 2017 and she was with us until bank holiday this year.

Both these girls will forever have a place in my heart as I'm sure anyone who has lost a dog will always keep them close to you.

Feel free to post any tributes and/or photos of your pets below
