Two leading vets and researchers clashed on the issue during a packed, and at times heated, discussion at BSAVA Congress, while the BVA defended use of

Very often the most caring dog guardians are the ones that are over doing these things in an attempt to protect their beloved dogs.

But these old standards of care have been proven to cause serious health problems in dogs.

It’s important to protect your dog’s health without harming it.

Consider the effects of the toxins that you are regularly exposing your dog to in an attempt to protect them.

Consider how removing their hormones in a growth phase can negatively affect their maturity, behavior and endocrine system.

It’s time to redefine what constitutes a responsible dog guardian.

Wow, things are moving at last in the right direction. Again I have been commenting on this issue for years and yet nothing has been done in any meaningful way. Lots of talk about “responsible use” in the Vet profession, but no plans to stop. There is little to no point treating without infestation, and almost never discussed is the potential for human harm from chronic exposure to these chemicals.

There is extremely limited research exploring the links between pesticides and pet poisonings.

Something we Homeopaths had long observed through case taking and linking experiences, so to us not a surprise at all. In fact I have written articles on this issue many times, and faced criticism and disbelief for questioning the status quo. It almost seems that the plan was to sideline the homeopaths then take over their narrative - pollution from pesticides on pets, toxicity from overuse of some drugs, successful use of joint supplements, herbs now being researched, even raw feeding - all now coming to the fore. How long until Homeopathy is rebadged in some form and becomes mainstream I wonder?

If I can put a plea out there for all the Dachsunds at least - the evidence is that neutering dramatically increases their risk of IVVD and other back problems - please consider keeping them entire/intact for their best lives.
