Here are a few hints for the drop in temperatures :
🐔Ensure they have an enclosed, draft-free coop with ventilation to allow moisture to escape.
🐔A handful of corn before bed is great for raising their body temperature. Also high protein foods for weight gain such as sunflower hearts.
🐔Initially use tepid water for them to drink.
🐔A thick layer of bedding for them to snuggle into.
🐔No jumpers / heaters. These do more harm and can be detrimental to a hens health

2 beautiful, young Light Sussex boys looking for new homes. Please message for info.
20/10/2023
These are the girls that are coming to us on 18th November.
We always do a site visit to new farms, to check things like parking space for our vehicles, obstacles / hazards that might impede our progress, whether we'll need ladders to reach the top cages etc.
It goes without saying that a few words of kindness are shared with the hens while we're there 🧡🐔

** all now have a wonderful new home**
❤️🙏
Looking for a new loving home. 1 goose (presumed female but I can’t say for certain, she’s quite friendly) 2 female ducks. These ducks and goose must go together as they have lived happily together for some time now.
2 hens, very tame and regularly laying.
They are with me in Congleton. Please only direct message, I will not respond to comments. Only message if you understand that the goose and ducks will only go together and that although I have been told that the goose is female and myself, I believe her to be female, I can not guarantee this is correct. You must be able to offer a home if she turns out to be male.
The 2 hens must also stay together.
Photos of your hen/goose/duck accommodation will be required.

Have you upgraded your coop?
Have you stopped keeping hens?
Do you have an empty and unwanted PLASTIC coop &/or run you would consider donating to us?
We have lots of school hatch chicks saved from a grim end, who have outgrown their nurseries and need to get on the property ladder.
We have cockerels who are dumped on us almost daily, but have to be kept individually while we find them a new home.
We have poorly hens on rehome day who need a few days of intensive treatment somewhere safe and secure.
We have hens who can never be re-homed because they have foreshortened lives, but need to live their last few weeks/months comfortably and happily ❤️
These coops will be going into the gardens of our volunteers who take care of the above issues.
Because we need a quick turnaround and to clean them thoroughly and keep them hygienic, I'm afraid we cannot accept wooden coops.
Omlet, Green Frog, Solway, Arkus, and more. All are acceptable, plus any accessories such as covers or feeders, etc. Even if you just have the run, someone else might have the coop and we can marry them up :)
Please message this page if you can help.
We very rarely ask for anything so please excuse us if you think we're being a bit cheeky, but as they say, shy bairns get nowt. 😊
The chicks in the photo came in separately. As you can see, 2 are much larger than the other six, but with nowhere else to house them they are all having to (fight) rub along together

Top tips for keeping your hens cool in this heat?
These are some basics, but I am sure you have lots of idea, so please share them with us.
1. SHADE - ensure your hens have access to plenty of shade throughout the day.
2. WATER - Change the drinking water through the day to get rid of the warm and stale and bring in the new and cool.
3. ICE - adding a washing up bowl of cold water with some ice cubes floating is both entertaining and cooling. Add some frozen peas for extra fun. I have a few who enjoy a paddle.
4. FREEZE some empty pop bottles of water and lay them on their side around the run. Hens can lay against them to cool down.
5. SPRAY the floor of the run, or some grass in the shade to cool it down even further.
6. RED MITE are LOVING this weather. Use every trick you know to keep them at bay. They are difficult to completely eradicate, so don't despair when you see them after you have treated, just know that you are reducing numbers, and that can only be a good thing.

We will be rehoming from Congleton next on June 18th.

We are a not for profit organisation, run entirely by volunteers who are dedicated to rehoming hens from the commercial egg production sector.
OUR AIM is to ensure as many people as possible are aware of the plight of the commercial hen, and demonstrate that there are alternatives to early slaughter.
OUR COMMITMENT is to rehome as many hens as we can into suitable homes, where they can live out the rest of their natural lives.
OUR GOAL is to educate the public about the ethical benefits of buying free range eggs, whilst supporting the work of British farmers. Commercially, all laying hens are slaughtered at the age of 72 weeks, when their production drops slightly. Their carcasses are worth very little and are usually sold for dog food, baby food or cheap, processed pies etc. We work closely with British farmers and purchase the hens from the caged, barn and free range systems, just before their slaughter date.
We rehome hens to a diverse range of individuals wanting hens as pets or companion animals. Hens have begun their new lives in town, city and country gardens, allotments, schools and residential care homes. You don’t need to have a big garden to keep a few hens, they will be grateful for the additional years of freedom you can offer them and reward you with their entertaining antics and probably an egg or two.
To this end, we do not rehome to people wishing to sell them on or for further commercial purposes.
