Question…
My little satin frizzle has turned out to be a boy and I’m thinking of adding him to my main flock when big enough, my question is would you still buy USA Silkie eggs with the chance of satins, satin frizzles and frizzled silkies appearing in the incubator? 🐣
First time giving the chicks some boiled egg, honestly they go crazy for it and it’s got so many vitamins and minerals in there which helps them grow and also prevents wry neck 🥚

Wet days calls for extra treats 🌽
We’ve been looking after and breeding chickens for nearly 5yrs now, in that time we’ve dealt with most chicken illnesses and defects, however this is the first time we’ve dealt with red mites and now talking from experience they’re brutal.
They’re so bad you genuinely want to give up, I’ve always felt fortunate with the set up we’ve got, huge sheds and even bigger runs with cover. But when red mite invade they take out the area within days, both our flocks were struck down and one shed is still out of use.
Luckily a good friend Maureen lent us some Exzolt which was fantastic at treating them. We had to isolate our whole flock of nearly 40 birds and also a smaller flock while treating them and it’s only been today they’ve gone back into a fresh shed to fully recover.
The smaller flock won’t return to their original coop, they’re now settled in a plastic coop where is easier to treat and prevent.
I genuinely not sure what I’d done if it wasn’t for being lucky enough to have some on hand with treatment. But if you get the first inclination of red mite, do not hesitate to get the out and treat as soon as you can.
