Another Millpond rescue for you today, why not! This one is from a rainy day at the end of May. Concerned locals were trying to catch this duck for a few days before this was reported to us. Ducky kept flying off every time someone tried to grab him. So I grabbed my net, a tool that’s helped me catch flighted animals of many species, and we set off. Within a few minutes of arriving, we had our boy secure. He was clearly in a bad way so our transport volunteer took him straight on to the Swan Sanctuary for treatment.
Injured wing who? Bye Percy pidge! 🐦🕊️
A quick stringfoot case today, caught early before any damage was done to the toes. I spotted this sweetpea while checking a few of our soft release pigeons who joined this flock a few days ago. I’m happy to say I saw them all and they’re all doing so well 🥰 happy freedom beautiful pigeons 💚💜🩶🖤
Who wants to play another round of our favourite social media game… guess the species! This little one came in after being attacked by a cat 💔 but luckily escaped with minor injuries. Leave your guesses down below! A bonus point if you can also name the bird species you can hear in the background of the video 🤔❓
One of the Canada geese that survived the killings at crossways needed our help yesterday. Our wonderful volunteer Danielle spotted sweet Angel with fishing line hanging from her side and raised the alarm. With the help of volunteers Shirley, Monika and Calum we managed to find Angel and coax her over so I could grab her. She had a large hook right in her “armpit” under her wing. Due to the awkward location, angle and size of the hook it took me longer than usual to remove it. Luckily Angel was patient and allowed us to help her. The wound from the hook was small and clean so after a quick bit of onsite treatment she was able to go back home. A wonderful bit of teamwork resulting in quick action for Angel ❤️ If you’d like to make a donation to DART’s voluntary work, please go to paypal.me/dartfordanimalrescue thank you!!
After changing out of my wet muddy clothes after rescuing Svanella at the mill pond yesterday, I went for a walk with my visiting friend (and ex DART volunteer until he very rudely moved too far away) around Brooklands lakes. Whilst feeding two greylag geese families my friend Shedrack spotted one of the big goslings was trailing fishing line. It wasn’t wrapped around the bird at all, just hanging which all but confirmed that there was likely a hook somewhere in the bird keeping the line attached. Baby was caught swiftly and I quickly found the hook in her wing. The scabbing and debris around the hook indicated it had been there at least a few days 💔 After cleaning up the small wound, everything looked lovely and baby was good to go back to her family. Good spot Shedrack!
This morning I had three of my wonderful friends (one is behind the camera) help me release Helaena the mallard duck back home to Brooklands Lakes. After a little slide down the bank she was back in the water, had a little splash and then came over again to eat some food with her family. When we walked back past again around an hour later she was resting in the water, alongside all the other mallards, all having a snooze with their heads under their wings. What an honour it is to see her back happy and settled in the wild with her family. Thank you to my helpers, you did such a good job keeping completely silent so we didn’t scare Helaena while she left the carrier. Absolute professionals with the upmost respect for animals ❤️🦆
A quick rescue of one of the big Egyptian babies at the Millpond today. Can you guess why we need to catch this little one? The answer is in our comment below. Thank you so so much to Pepe and Faye for their dedication monitoring this river and lake and safeguarding the wildlife there. Thank you for raising the alarm for this bubba 🫶
from stray to slay ~ August Jeffrey everyone 🤩😍🥰
It was so lovely to check in with Elena the Egyptian goose and her family today while we were at her lake on another case. Seeing her move freely and regain her confidence has been so emotional for us all.
A huge thank you again to everyone involved with helping Elena, particularly Danni for making the catch.
Danni has created a petition which tackles another issue we see all too often in water bird rescues: catapult and BB gun injuries. Please sign Danni’s petition below to make the sale of catapults/ammunition and carrying catapults in public illegal.

Warning! Vicious animal attack in this video 😉😉😉 I’m Ophelia’s favourite snack 🤪😂 It’s been really hard navigating new emergency rescues, posting on our social media, and everything else with how tricky life is at the moment. Thank you everyone for your patience with me ❤️
Paisley was released today by my wonderful sister who also caught her after spotting her . She joined an older pigeon who looked a lot like her who we believe could be her mum. She was so so happy to be home. We wish you a long and happy life Paisley ❤️🕊️Our dad and the rescue’s admin volunteer Dan is currently at the human hospital in intensive care so we have been operating at a massively reduced capacity as a result. Please keep him in your thoughts. We all love you so much Dad, you can do this ❤️❤️❤️
6 years with you. 6 months without you. Elbow I am so thankful that I got to know you. Thank you for keeping me going and loving me so fiercely. Thank you for the best memories, biggest laughs and the strongest bond. Thank you for the life you gave me. I hope I made you as happy as you make me. I have never known a love like yours. We were absolutely meant to share this world together, I just wish we’d got more than 6 years. But I will be forever grateful for them. You’re with me everyday my perfect boy. I love you endlessly 🤍🖤🤍🖤
