SG Veterinary Physiotherapy is run by Samantha Graves BSc (Hons); MSc Vet Phys; CertSAHydro, who is registered and fully insured with the Institute of Registered Veterinary and Animal Physiotherapists (IRVAP). Samantha is also a qualified canine hydrotherapist and member of NARCH (National Association of Registered Canine Hydrotherapists). Samantha has an extensive background in animal science whi

ch began over 10 years ago studying for a degree in Bioveterinary Science. She then went on to pursue a career in animal rehabilitation and graduated from Harper Adams University in 2014 with an MSc in Veterinary Physiotherapy, accredited by the National Association of Veterinary Physiotherapists (NAVP). After qualifying as a veterinary physiotherapist, Samantha spent the next few years persuing her passion for small animal rehabilitation. She was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work at a number of specialist rehabilitation centres in the south east, enabling her to further develop and refine her physiotherapy and hydrotherapy treatment tecnhiques. She also ran a mobile small animal physiotherapy service on the Isle of Wight. SG Veterinary Physiotherapy are specialists in canine rehabilitation and fitness with experience in treating a range of orthopaedic and neurological conditions. Physiotherapy can be beneficial in the treatment of:

osteoarthriritis
hip and elbow dysplasia
degenerative myelopathy
spinal issues
cranial cruciate ligamnet injury
tendonitis
muscle strain
mobility issues in elderly animals
sports injuries in athletic dogs. Each patient is individually assessed in order to tailor a physiotherapy treatment plan to meet their needs. The aim of physiotherapy is to restore movement and function as near to normal as possible. This can encompass pain management, maintenance of joint mobility, increasing muscle strength and more. Treatment sessions will vary depending on patient needs but can include a combination of electrotherapy, massage, stretching and land based exercises. In order to ensure that patients are receiving the best treatment, Samantha undertakes various CPD training events throughout the year to keep her skills and knowledge up to date.

A recently published study has shown that integrating LASER or phototherapy into a treatment programme for dogs with degenerative myelopathy can be beneficial in helping to slow down progression of the condition (Miller et al, 2020).
