When all the ladies flock around Geoffrey, he doesn’t look amused!
We’ve moved a few of the goats around this week to get the right groups for winter. Geoff and his group will be heading over to our Magical Santa Experience starting this weekend, along with some of our Leicester Longwool Sheep.
Sledmere Masterman and Sledmere Brigadier are ready for the Wagoners Remembrance Service at the Monument tomorrow.
They’ve had their legs washed, a good brush and a mane and tail brush. Safe to say they are tucked up in snuggly beds and not galloping around the muddy fields tonight!
We’re making progress.
This morning Maisie came and ate a treat out of Laura’s hand which is a massive step forward for her. Geoff got to share too of course!
They’re definitely glad to be tucked up in a snuggly stable today!
*please excuse Laura’s proud voice*
Boris keeping cool this morning.
9am and 21 degrees, I might join him later if it gets as hot as yesterday!
One of the highlights in the main ring at Down on the Farm last weekend was the ridden shire display with Pete and Abbie Bowser
We invited them to come along and join us to help show how versatile the heavy horses are - I think they definitely nailed the brief!
From barrel racing to jousting, these guys can do it all!
Who wants to see them again next year?
So a few of you guessed it, our Sledmere boys are back from their working holiday in Devon and we could not be any prouder of them!
They have both taken everything in their stride and returned home yesterday, just in time for Down on the Farm on Sunday!
Johnathon and Rob from Waterers' Working Horses have been with us for a couple of days to help settle them in and show us what they can do. We cannot thank them enough for showing so much care for our boys and of course, breaking them to drive so amazingly well.
The hard work for us starts now, keeping them up to the job and settling them in to their new roles!

Henry practising his shape throwing for his parade at Down on the Farm on Sunday.
Will be contain himself or will he show off to his adoring fans?
There’s no better sound than our shires stomping up the tunnel into our beautiful stable yard.
Jim returning from an important drive last week after taking members of the Sykes family around their estate in the glorious Yorkshire sunshine.
Happy horses!
Julie, Poppy and Henry enjoying time in the field.
It’s not very often you see Julie moving that quickly so she’s obviously feeling very good in herself!
When you’re trying to give the goats a nice big fluffy straw bed but the kids have other ideas!
These guys are so mischievous now!!
When you get back from a long, tiring day showing and Auntie Poppy comes to play.
How sweet are these two!
It’s very exciting playing out with Auntie Poppy!
Poppy, Julie and Henry are now out in the field together. Poppy is made up as she’s missed her pal Julie, but you have to wait until the time is right to introduce them again - Julie decides when that time is!
Our beautiful Oxford Sandy and Black piglets enjoying a mad 5 minutes in the RBST York Support Group marquee.
They’ve been incredible this week, one more day to go tomorrow then they’ll be heading home to tell their friends what they’ve been up to!
Now we may be biased, but isn’t Henry the best boy?
He had his first wander to the house and around the grounds today, what a super star!
We may have to start leading him like a big boy soon though as he’s very nosey and independent already, he’s not fazed by wandering off from mum.
Henry had his first night over the road in the big field last night, this morning he walked back in like a pro ready to meet all his fans!
We don’t want to speak too soon, but he’s been an absolute dream so far, he has a really good attitude and has taken everything in his stride. At 3 weeks old he ties up, picks all 4 feet up, walks over the road - not phased by traffic, stands and waits to cross the road patiently and now he’s learning to be led.
We might even try and get him out for a wander in the grounds tomorrow so if he’s not in the Farm Park, he’ll be taking in the views of his home.
Cottage Farm Julie and her handsome boy.
Perfect weather to get them outside at only 10 hours old today. Julie is being amazing as ever and helping her man get to grips with life in the Farm Park.
Jim has a new partner for his World War 1 Horse Drawn Horse Ambulance displays.
Winnie and Flint have stepped up to help out as our trusty pal Popcorn is enjoying life with a new family. He has been fantastic and not put a hoof out of place even though it’s slightly different to his day job as a mounted games pony (a pretty good one at that)!
They’ll be showing off at our Army Wagon Challenge event on Sunday so don’t miss out! There’s lots of family fun to be had alongside some fierce competitions with 12 army teams battling it out to be the 2023 champions 🏆
Happy little piglets
They’ve made their bed outside but ’this little piggy’ couldn’t help but have a special moment with mum Pippa.
Sledmere Brigadier, 2 year old gelding
Sledmere Masterman, 4 year old gelding
Full of the joys of spring last night when they went out in the field, William more so than Walter. We love to see them letting their hair down after behaving so well during a busy event day greeting their visitors.
