Ricky is THE definition of a cocker spaniel - the Kennel Club breed standard describes them as having a "merry nature with an ever-wagging tail". Merry indeed, this happy boy is so chuffed showing off his licky mat after his groom and teeth clean βΊοΈπͺ₯π«§

What does your professional groomer do on a snowy Sunday....passes her Canine Dermatology exam with 93% that's what!
Relieved is an understatement. This one means a lot as I've not only enjoyed the course and learned so much, but I really want to put the knowledge to good use to keep the dogs in my care as skin-healthy as I can and prevent aggravating existing issues further.
Now I can properly get into Christmas! (After a wee celebratory cuppa π)
What does force-free mean?
Here is Louis demonstrating my force-free approach to drying. He is not the biggest fan of being groomed but over time Louis has learned I won't force drying on him. He used to crouch down into a little ball but look at how confident he is now!
Because:
πΎ He has space to move on the table - into and out of the drier flow but it's HIS CHOICE
πΎ Because he is safe on the table I don't use restraints, so he has the ability to exercise his free choice
πΎ No restraints = ability to act out his natural behaviours like shaking
πΎ I give him space, not hovering right over his body so he doesn't feel trapped
πΎ I'm watching his body language throughout and use my body language (I lower my gaze and look to the side) to reiterate to him I'm not a threat
πΎThe drier is at a distance that isn't forceful and again, doesn't leave him feeling confined π
All dogs are a work in progress
So who can spot the sign that Louis is still not 100% comfortable?? π€π€π€
Hint: it's at the start of the video π
Beautiful Daisy all shiny and less floofy!
Neutering often changes the coat as the change in hormones promotes more undercoat growth. Undercoat has no shine. It has a different texture and doesn't reflect light, so excessive growth dulls the appearance of the coat.
Today we removed that by hand so Daisy's beautiful coat shone bright once again π Just look at those eyes π
Little Oti's first bath and she was a β
You can't help but fall in love with Gorgeous Hudson who was fantastic at his first salon bath and blow dry π
Just look at that face π
Hudson has visited the salon twice before his bath for Meet and Treat sessions as he is a little shy. But with such positive experiences behind him, and owners who completely understand that not all dogs are the same and need grooming tailored to THEIR individual needs, we were onto a winner π₯

Treats, play, and lots of praise and encouragement lays solid foundations for a lifetime of grooming enjoyment ππ
Charlie enjoying some free work and nailing the snuffle matt while his sister gets her blow dry
Just one of the things I do so that new puppies enjoy coming to the salon from an early age π
