Solway Canine Hydrotherapy and Self Service Dog Wash is a small business situated close to Dumfries town centre and offers hydrotherapy treatment for dogs with an advanced canine hydrotherapist. Hydrotherapy can be of benefit to dogs recovering from skeletal and soft tissue injuries, dogs with osteoarthritis, overweight dogs, and pre and post theatre exercise. If you think hydrotherapy might be of

benefit to your dog, please give us a phone or speak to your vet for further information. Along side the hydrotherapy we also have two bathing stations where you can bring your dog in for a pamper session! You can either wash your dog yourself and leave the mess behind or for a little extra we can wash them for you whilst you watch or go and grab some shopping or a coffee in town. The dog wash prices range from £12 to £35 depending on the size of dog and what service you require. This includes all shampoo, blaster drier or towels, and finish off with a spray of doggy cologne. There is always someone on hand if you require an extra pair of hands or need advice. Please feel free to give us a phone for further information or make an appointment.

Mixed emotions this morning as I set this pool up for the last time.

There have been so many gorgeous dogs I have had the privilege of helping come through this pool. Happy memories ❤️

Is My Dog In Pain?

The answer is that it can be hard to tell, unless you know what you are looking for.

Many owners think that because their dog doesn't cry out and still chases a ball that they can't possibly be sore. However, this is often not the case!

Dogs are very stoic animals and will do their best to hide any signs of pain and discomfort. They also love spending time with us and so will happily come on a long walk, regardless of any pain they might have. During high energy activities, such as ball-chasing or playing with other dogs, adrenaline kicks in and allows the dog to 'ignore' their pain and so it isn't until they've slowed down and had a rest that they are aware of how sore they are.

So, what are some common signs of pain in dogs?
- Limping
- Sloppy sits
- Takes longer to jump in/out of the car or up onto the couch
- Being grumpier or more wary around other dogs and people
- Less playful
- Reduced appetite
- More time sleeping
- Less time spent with the rest of the household, spending more time on their own
- Reluctant to be stroked or brushed
- They are more worried/anxious

There are so many more signs that can tell us that a dog is sore and it can vary a lot between individual dogs. Learning what is 'normal' for your dog and then keeping an eye out for any changes can give you a heads up to any possible issues and help resolve them sooner rather than later! 🐾

The hardest part of this profession is getting to know all these wonderful dogs and sadly having to say goodbye.

Last week the lovely Jock made his way to the bridge 😔 he has been coming for regular Hydrotherapy sessions since July 2013, he would have been 15 next month! Our longest attending dog! What an achievement for a wee man with dodgy legs 🙂❤️

Sleep tight wee man ❤️

As many of you will have seen there is a cycle race in and around Dumfries Wednesday and Thursday of this week which is causing road closures in various areas of the town.

Unfortunately Market Square is one of the areas marked as having no access. From what I have been able to find it appears that access to Market Square is possible via Maxwell Street and Church Street but I have no idea what parking if any will be available. I probably won't know fully until the Wednesday morning.

Please allow extra time for traffic hold ups expected due to various road closures.

I have tried to work out best routes to us using the map provided for the race below.

This is also a link to the race map with restrictions that will be in place also.

Sorry for any inconvenience but it is beyond my control 🙁
