Match report 03/02/24

Shotton V North East sports youth gunners

Started the game very strong today and dominated from the off, they struggle to deal with us and didn’t get into our half at all, a free kick was awarded and Ben stepped up to take it, unlucky for him it hit the post and came out and we couldn’t convert, the ball did drop to Harry and he took a belter shot from around 20 yards out and the keeper had no chance and it dropped in to make it 1-0, he then took another wonder strike which hit the post and dropped in to make it 2-0. It then went to Harry again and today was his day every time he took a shot it went in but did save the best till last when another wonder strike left the keeper still looking for the ball and took us into half time 3-0.

Second half was pretty much the same a couple of half chances for them but Joe was on the ball and sharp off his line to make some great saves and put them under pressure, again we had plenty of chances ourselves and there keeper made some excellent saves to keep them in the game. It should have been 4-0 but a very very dodgy referee decision said it wasn’t over the line even though the keeper had to get a rake to get the ball out the net, blame Michael Lowis as he had one job and again let the lads down, poor Finn as it was upto now goal of the season.

MOTM was difficult and Harry probably should have got it after scoring a hat trick but every single one of them grafted all game today so went to the team!

As always a massive shout out to the sponsors as without there generosity none of this is possible.Signature Aesthetics by PaulaCK Electrical ServicesJoe's bunnies and new sponsor of our training kit Anwen Construction again thanks very much for making the lads look the part.

P.S - we must have the roughest looking lot haha.

Saturday 23rd. Cup first round

Shotton colts V Boro sports academy.

Following the first game and us coming away with a heavy defeat the lads had a lot to show and boy did they do that. Game started very quick from us and pressed high, the ball dropped to Charlie who played a lovely ball through to Sonny who spotted the keeper coming off his line and slotted it passed him Coll as ice into the corner, we kept up the momentum and pressed creating plenty of chances and coming close on several occasions. Boro came at us and we held our own the ball dropped to them and a mix up at the back they got back level with a couple of minutes of the half left, half time 1-1.

At half time I asked for another massive 30 minutes from the lads and they didn’t disappoint, Sonny as relentless as ever pushed them back which they couldn’t deal with and 2 of them rugby tackles him to the ground, penalty to us and Sonny sent the keeper the wrong way, 2-1 to us, we conceded a corner shortly after and cleared it well but in the mix of it all we did give a free kick away just outside the box and their kid hit a thunderbolt which bounced off the post (think it’s still shaking), Lewis made about 2000 saves until it dropped to them and bat and in, in the middle of all of it Lewis unfortunately took a nasty kick to the foot and had to come off, up stepped super Reggie who had played a blinder at the back in the first half and said “I’ll go in” and away he went, playing some cracking stuff and making some excellent saves just like Lewis 2-2, we lost another 2 players due to injuries and unfortunately had to finish the game battered and brusied and players playing out of position which cost us a further 2 goals in all of it. Take nothing away from today though the boys grafted and played out of their skins which is all I ask for, tremendous effort and coming away 2-4, good luck to Boro in the cup.

MOTM was a tough one but it went to Reggie, rock solid at the back and stepped up in goal and played cracking in the sticks too!

Special mention to our sponsors as without them none of this would be possible, Signature Aesthetics by Paula, CK Electrical Services & Joe's bunnies, your support is appreciated.

We have a free week next week so hopefully get the war wounds patched up and back to league action in 2 weeks, ⚽️⚽️⚽️
