As we humans enjoy the current heatwave we’re having, we just wanted to remind you of the dangers to our fur babies in the heat ☀️

Please avoid walking your dogs at peak times and stick to early morning and late night walks. It is also advisable to avoid bringing any brachycephallic (short nosed) pets into the vets unless necessary, as they tend to struggle with higher temperatures more than longer nosed breeds.

Whilst we hope you enjoy these summery days, please remember that no dog has died from missing one walk 🐶💛

We are back up and running! Thank you ☺️

Meet Lilo! 🐾🐱

Lilo joined the weight clinics a few months ago and she has done SO well (she’s lost 10% of her body weight!) and is now at her ideal weight. Through her owners dedication to the programme and the support from our nurse Rebecca this has been achieved in a controlled and balanced way.

Here’s what her mam had to say about the plan;

‘From the very first consultation I’ve had a great deal of support with Lilo’s weight loss journey. Rebecca went through a lifestyle questionnaire, her usual habits, measurements, feeding, cost per day and explained how to measure Lilo’s body condition score. She also gave me timescales for the expected weight loss and explained the process in full.

Since loosing the weight, Lilo has become more energetic, playful and cuddly. Before joining the clinics I found it hard to work out what was the right amount for her to loose weight, but still be healthy.

Rebecca was amazing at working at the right amount to best suit her, balancing her need to lose weight with how greedy she is!! Once the amount was worked out, it was super easy. After I’d been given the amount of food she needed, I put it into three containers for her three meals per day. Through regular consultations and check ins on the phone if needed, it was a weight of my shoulders knowing I could ask Rebecca any questions I had during the process.

She is now at a healthy weight so is on maintenance feeding and I have my happy, lively girl back!’

We are thrilled that Lilo and her mam have done so well at the weight loss programme! As Lilo is reaching those geriatric stages in her life we just know that this weight loss will have improved her quality of life 🥰

In the nicest way possible Lilo, we hope we don’t see you too soon!! 🐾❤️

*if you think your pet would benefit from some weight loss please contact the surgery on 01207 520398 📞

As an industry the veterinary profession has a significant amount of single use products and over the years it has negatively impacted our environment. Here at Ashfield, we are doing our very best to be more green!

Here are just a few of the things we have changed over the last year;

- We now have a number of bins throughout the practice to help us segregate our waste correctly and allow us to recycle even more items
- We are actively encouraging clients to return any unused medication to us, so we can dispose of it properly and reduce the impact on the environment
- We are making conscious decisions when purchasing single use consumable items
- Our buster collars are made of recycled plastics and are able to be recycled
- The syringes we purchase are made of recycled plastic
- Simple changes, like ensuring all paperwork is printed double sided to reduce paper usage
- LED lightbulbs that are on sensors so that they are never left on

Along with responsible dispensing of medication’s, changes to our products and ways of working, we are trying our best to reduce our impact of the environment 🌍♻️

🌍🌍 Our environmental changes 🌍🌍

At Ashfield we have made many changes to reduce our impact on the environment. One change we have actioned is streamlining our waste system, we’ve made waste segregation easier by putting labels on and colour coordinating bins, each room has the facilities to segregate correctly and we’ve introduced recycling of flexible waste to reduce the waste we send to landfill. As a practice we’ll look into more ways we can reduce waste and keep you updated.

As a practice we’d like to include our clients in our environmental sustainability journey, below are resources to help you drive economically and save money on fuelling your car.
