☀️☀️☀️It’s hot dog season! ☀️☀️☀️
As the temperature rises here in the UK so do the cases of heatstroke in our furry friends.
REMEMBER: It’s not just our canine companions that suffer from the warm weather. It is important to keep all of our pets at an appropriate temperature.
The main signs of heatstroke include :
💡Panting heavily, or difficulty breathing as well as an increased heart rate.
💡Bright red gums and tongues (as well as other mucous membranes) which can turn a grey, purple, or blue colour.
💡Vomiting, excess salivation/drooling.
💡Lethargy, shaking and collapse.
Heat stroke can lead to more serious situations, including seizures, organ failure, and worse case scenario - death.
Your pets are at an increased risk if they’re older or “geriatric”, young pups, those with flattened faces (brachycephalic) or those with thick long coats.
🐈🐱One of our staff cats Gandalf is making great use of his cool mat, which is one way of keeping them cool indoors. If you’d like to know more interactive and fun ways of keeping your pets of all shapes and sizes cool let us know 🐰🐶
Stay safe!
