🚨Cooperative Care🚨

Learning how to care for your dog is a big challenge on its own, but then teaching your dog to accept and cooperate with this is sometimes even harder!

I can help show you ways to make vet checks run smoother, show you tricks for making ear cleans easy, and the nitty gritty on getting nails trimmed.

🗺️ Go places, do things! 🗺️

This weekend, we took our furry friends on an adventure! Daphne was mesmerised by the Gaia Exhibition in the Lincoln Cathedral, as it looked like a giant ball!

Daphne has been working really hard to remain calm and focused in new environments, and our efforts have paid dividends this weekend. She settled beautifully in the hotel and at meal times, and met some wonderful new people.

Well done Daphne, you’re making great progress, and we’re very proud of you.

🌭GREGORY🌭

Gregory is my personal dog. He’s a 4 year old dachshund, who loves to play and make new friends.

Gregory has a generally calm and soothing presence which makes him a great tag along for training sessions.

He has helped a number of dogs overcome their reactivity issues, and given confidence to others.

If you have a nervous dog, who needs calm introductions to a very calm dog, feel free to message me for more information. We can work through this together!

💥 DAPHNE 💥

Daphne is a 2 year old rescue cocker spaniel. She came to us completely afraid of the world, and we didn’t quite understand why. We didn’t have much information on her background, but we could see she was not confident at all, and a little reactive.

Through lots of reassurance, and guidance from our own dog Gregory (featured in lots of other posts), she has become a calm and settled dog. And much more confident!

P.s if you’re passing through Broadway, pop into The Broadway Hotel and see if Daphne is working! She’s a beloved member of the Broadway staff.

🪵 out doing dog things 🪵

Over the weekend, we took advantage of the wonderful weather to do “dog things”.

So, what does that mean?

I let my dachshund explore at his own pace, taking in the smells and sounds of a fun area.

For our cocker, we allow her to do her thing. She prefers “natural” agility. She likes to run and jump on logs, and splash through puddles. Safely, of course!

I firmly believe that the best kind of enrichment is free and outdoors

✨ PROOFING ✨

So you’ve mastered a command at home. Fabulous work! But, how will that hold up in the “real world”?

Dogs often get distracted out and about, and sometimes we can’t control those distractions. It is really important that our dogs listen to us when we need them to, as it can be life saving (stop, wait, drop, etc)

So, how do we get around these distractions? I teach my dogs that I am the most interesting thing in the world. I am the giver of snacks, master of play, and doer of all things fun.

My dogs know that giving me their focus is really rewarding. If they make the decision to focus on me, they will be rewarded.

But it takes a while to build up to this stage. Let me know if you want to know how to get to this point!

Does your dog sniff all the time?

I know mine does. Whilst sniffing can delay your walk, it’s a fantastic way to enrich your dog

Dogs’ sense of smell is 10,000 to 100,000 times more powerful than ours, which means they can learn things from sniffing. For example, a dog can infer another animals health by sniffing their urine, including their diet and stress levels!

I like to think that sniffing is our dogs equivalent of social media. They take in so much information from their environment by smelling, and it makes sense that we allow them to “scroll”.

Dog friendly spaces, what’s your thoughts?

Do you enjoy taking your four legged pal out on the town? Or do you prefer to have time to yourself?

Either way, it’s super important to make sure that your dog is exposed to new situations and surroundings in a calm and controlled manner.
