Our New Adoption Centre is now open everyday 11am until 3pm - except Thursdays when we are closed. Welcome to Cats Protection Devon Cat Centre’s page. Our new adoption centre opened January 2024. To enquire about adopting a cat or kitten, please apply via our website or fill out an application form at the centre. Our cats and kittens have all been fully vaccinated, health checked by our v

et, neutered, microchipped and treated for fleas and worms. Our cats come with 4 weeks free insurance when homed. The average cost of looking after a cat in our care can reach well over £200, and this does not include any necessary treatment. To help our costs we ask for an adoption fee of £85 per cat and £105 per kitten, and any donations are gratefully received. Our page editors who are Rehoming & Welfare Assistants who work closely with the cats will do their best to answer any questions you have. For any urgent questions please contact the centre direct. He needs a home with new owners that will give him the time and patience he needs to settle in to the new environment and become the best pet ever. He could possibly live with both other cats and dogs given the correct introductions, but because of his reserved nature, a home with very young children will be a no, but older calm, cat aware children might be ok.

APPLICATION IN PROGRESS
🐾 SPECIAL APPEAL MOWGLI - She will need some aftercare and check-ups with our vet for the first couple of months in her new home - applicants will need to be able to travel to our centre (based outside of Exeter) for these. 🐾

Mowgli is an absolute star! She's one of the exceptional cases who come into Cats Protection, in that it has taken many months to get her to a state where she is able to leave care. This means she is looking for a very special home. Clever, playful, and affectionate, Mowgli had an injury to her neck and back which has been difficult to treat, and difficult to heal. She still has to wear a special suit when she is unsupervised, and although she is no longer on medication, she requires a specific diet, at least initially. She is looking for a quiet home where someone is around most of the time - perhaps with sensible older children/teenagers who she can have fun with - in a home where she will be the only cat. Mowgli may be able to live with a dog with slow introductions. She likes lots of playtime to keep her mind active, and lots of snuggles, but, having spent so much time in care, she'll need to be given the time she needs to settle into a home environment. Pixie is an adorable 14 year old lady who will be the best company cat you will ever need. Pixie loves her head, cheeks, and chin rubbed, and will sit on your lap for hours. Pixie just love to be around people, in the lounge on the chair with you, also on the bed and occasionally under duvet. Pixie has lived with a small dog and they got on very well, when coming in from outdoors she would always rub her head on the dogs cheeks. Pixie does not want to share with other cats, but older cat aware children could be a possibility.

Monty is a keen hunter, very independent and as a rule is a lovely cat. He is fine with our children, but not so good with other cats, so we do feel Monty would be happier as a solo cat. He tends to spend his days hunting on his own, and he prefers to sleep alone, but if I go out into the garden, he’ll find me and accompany me" He will need a new home with lots of outdoor space, as this is what he is used to and he does prefers to spend a lot of time outside, but he will come for human love when he wants it and he’ll jump up onto a lap for a cuddle, he is also fine being carried. He doesn’t like feeling enclosed, so being here must feel like a jail sentence for him. I you are needing a pest control expert, who will also be your best friend then Monty is the one for you.

Remember Madame Socks? Her new owner has been in touch and send us these lovely photos of her in her new home.
They said "Madame Socks has settled in well. She seems to feel at home in most rooms and with all the family members. She explores most of the house and seeks us out for company. She still likes sleeping in quiet places in the day. She's using her litter well and is very happy playing with toys."

Remember Monty?
His new owners have been in touch and sent in some photos of him.
They said: "Monty is settling in, not fully confident but improving. He hasn’t fully explored the house yet but he loves having a brush and loves his food.
He is getting used to our routine and likes to sit on laps and be with us. He also tells us if he doesn’t like something. He can also be very vocal when he’s hungry."

RESERVED- Meet 9 year old Jessica! She is very friendly with all ages and loves cuddles and playing with string toys. She would like a safe outdoor space in her new home so she can explore the great outdoors. Jessica likes to interact with children and visitors when they are calm, but will just find a hiding hole if things are to noisy. She can be a vocal and quite chatty too which is nice. Jessica would be fine living with other calm cats with the right introductions, but is frightened of dogs. Jessica really will be a great addition to the family, given time to settle.

Pepperoni is a sweet but timid 1 year old cat looking for a new home, she is looking for owners who are happy to take things slowly. She is very shy initially but once you have spent some time with her she will come out and about and is happy for head strokes, purring away and rolling around. Her rolling around is not an invite to touch, she is wary of quick hands and fast movements. She will need to some time to build up trust with her new owners. Pepperoni is looking for a quiet adult only home, with no other pets so that she can come right out of her shell and feel confident in her new home. Pepperoni would like access to a safe secure garden so that she can explore the great outdoors when she is ready. Happy Everyone! 😺

We have received these gorgeous photos of our kitten Chip! He was very shy during his stay with us, since being at home he has really found his confidence.
His new owner said "He is doing so well, still loves his mouse (although it’s not looking very healthy now) his football skills are impressive but unfortunately he has half killed one plant and the curtains haven’t faired well either hahaha. He is an absolute love bug, loves a bum scratch and cuddles with the loudest purr ever!
As you can see from the pictures, he has made himself at home and we couldn’t love him more."

Looking for a gorgeous tabby boy? 🐾

Handsome 3 year old Gizmo has lots of energy and loves to be outside exploring and having fun. Being such an active cat he hasn't always got the time to spend all day lazing about on laps, but when the mood takes him he is very affectionate and enjoys a cuddle, especially being picked up and cuddled. He can be quite territorial, so will be looking for a home with on other cats. We have no idea if he could live with dogs or children.

He was very shy at first but now he's really coming out of his shell! He loves belly rubs, being brushed and watching the tennis with his owner. He's now going out in the garden and loving his freedom.

We've received an update email from our kitten Tiegan this weekend! Her new owners have sent in some adorable photos of her in her new home. They have renamed her Maisie, she absolutely loves their 4 month old baby. She loves to be with him, she enjoys lots of cuddles and playing with her toys.

APPLICATION IN PROGRESS- Mittens is a confident 14 year old lady looking for a home, she has been described as very confident and affectionate and she is generally not fazed by things. She loves a fuss and will come and sit on your lap to receive it. She would like a home with a nice safe garden as she does like to explore the outdoors. Mittens has also got a playful side and will happily chase and play with a feather stick and stringy toys. She would like to be the only pet in the household so she can have all the attention to herself. She would also need regular grooming which she tolerates to keep her coat nice and tidy. She has no experience with younger children but due to her confident nature could live with an older cat aware child (10+). He will interact with play, his favourite things are pieces of string which he can chase about, as he has lots of bounce and loves to do zoomies. Loki has lived with a small dog and possibly could do again with the right introductions. He has no experience of other cats and gets scared of young children. So far in his life Loki has not had access to the outside world, but we know he really would enjoy a safe garden to explore away from busy roads.

Happy Everyone! ❤

We've received this gorgeous photo of our kitten Wedge in his new home. Earlier in the summer we had a two litters of kittens which were found in a garden shed. We named after types of potatoes and sausages. They were all very timid when they arrived, our RWAs (Rehoming & Welfare Assistants) and volunteers worked hard socialising them. They were luckily young enough to socialise.

We shared quite a few success stories from these kittens this month. Wedge's new owners have been in touch, they said "Little Binx (Wedge) is doing absolutely great thank-you. He no longer is the shy/ timid boy we collected three weeks ago, he is playful, chatty, cuddly and slightly crazy now (he has a couple of hours where is into everything and loves doing zoomies around the house, it's so funny to watch). He is very comfortable/happy within our home."
We are so pleased he's a happy confident boy and we would like to thank his owners for allowing us to share their photo of him.

She had lived with other cats before, but because of her gentle personality has a tendency to get bullied, so would prefer to be the only cat. Our Story

Welcome to Exeter Axhayes Adoption Centre’s page. Our centre is one of the oldest Cats Protection adoption centres which opened back in 1988. We currently re-home approximately 900-1,000 cats a year. We help neuter approximately 600 cats and kittens a year. Our centre is one of the largest adoption centres in the UK with about 200 cats and kittens in our care. Our centre consists of separate areas for admissions, isolation, maternity and rehoming. We also have a veterinary room where a vet health checks, vaccinates and microchips every cat that comes into our centre. Our cats and kittens have all been fully vaccinated, health checked by our vet, neutered (over 4 months old), microchipped, de-flead and wormed. Our cats come with 4 weeks free insurance when homed. The average cost of looking after a cat in our care can reach well over £200, and this does not include any necessary treatment. To help our costs we ask for an adoption fee of £70 per kitten and cat under 12 years old, £60 per cat 12 years + and any donations are gratefully received.
