💚What is a healthy diet for rabbits? 🐇🐇

Follow this guidance to help you own healthy bunnies with healthy teeth and tums…

🌱 85% of your rabbits’ diet should be freshly-grazed grass or good quality, dust-free feeding hay. That’s their main staple to keep their guts moving and their teeth wearing down appropriately.
❌Do not feed your rabbits a ‘rabbit muesli’. They eat the bits they like and leave the bits they don’t, resulting in imbalanced nutrition and ill health. Pellets are much better because the nutrients are blended through each pellet.
🥚Feed only 1 egg cup’s worth of pellets per bunny each day - that’s all a normal, active pet rabbit needs! Pellets should be no more than 5% of your rabbits’ total food intake.✔️
🥬Every day, feed a bit of fresh fibrous veg like kale and cabbage. Fresh veg and herbs should be about 10% of your rabbits’ intake.
(Keep more sugary fruit and veg like carrot or apple as a treat only - just a nibble at a time and not every day).
💦Make sure your rabbits have 24/7 access to clean water in a bowl or bottle (or both)

💚This week is all about spreading the word on basic care requirements for rabbits. It’s that simple…yet extremely necessary…

🐇It has been understood for some time that rabbits’ basic needs are not met by commonly held beliefs about how to keep them (kept in a hutch, fed a rabbit muesli and carrots, possibly let out in a small, shallow run in the garden for a short time each day).
😢Many pet rabbits still live in inadequate conditions - often through misinformation rather than neglect.

😁RAW is here to help those good people, who want to look after their rabbits well, to be able to do so - to make sure the information on best rabbit care is out there and easy to find.

🐇The Rabbit Awareness Action Group, with the help of partner organisations, runs RAW annually. We’re just hopping on board with them to try and help East Devon rabbits live happier lives.

And finally…last - but in no way least…this is Claire. Claire gained much nursing experience in different practices around the UK before settling with us at Corner House. She’s another skilled and knowledgeable member of our nursing team and, just like Helen, particularly enjoys anaesthetic monitoring. Claire also loves travelling and has seen some fascinating creatures worldwide - she’s even worked in a bear sanctuary in Vietnam! 🐻💚💚

🌟💚Meet Our RVNs💚🌟

Introducing Helen - RVN number 5 of 6! Helen completed her vet nurse training at Bicton College - so just down the road! She particularly enjoys anaesthetics and monitoring patients during surgery - which is one of many key duties that our RVNs undertake day-to-day and is a highly skilled job. Helen is a fan of wildlife and has helped rehabilitate many hedgehogs to the point of re-release. 🦔💚🦔

Ness is another member of the nursing team who has been associated with Corner House for many years - having worked here under previous management, taken a few years working elsewhere and then returning to the team in recent years. Ness has extensive knowledge and experience in the field of pet behaviour as well as a wealth of experience in other areas of nursing. She is kept on her toes by her many rescue animals at home.🐕‍🦺🐕🐈💚

Next up it’s Norma…or Aunty Norma to many! Norma has been a welcoming face at our Budleigh branch for many years. Norma has taken on the ‘Aunty’ title as so many of our Budleigh patients pop by just to say hi and have cuddles and treats!!😁😊
When you visit our Budleigh branch, if you look closely, you may see Norma being supported by her faithful Labrador, Belle, who likes a little snooze behind reception while Norma’s at work. 🙂❤️🐕‍🦺🐾

She also undertakes a wealth of managerial duties to help keep Corner House running smoothly. 💚Vicky💚
Our longest-standing RVN is Vicky. Vicky has worked for Corner House since the dawn of time (well, almost!) and has moved from Nurse, to Head Nurse to Practice Manager. Despite spending a chunk of time on managerial duties these days, Vicky still gets involved in the nursing side. Vicky is affectionately known as ‘Vicky Veins’ because she’s a dab hand when taking blood and placing intravenous catheters! …And she’s a bit of an expert on Cavaliers! 🐶🐶

What a privilege to see the Devon Air Ambulance take-off at Commando Challenge Events Village today! 🙂🚁 The Dog Show helped raise some cash for the Ambulance Trust - along with the Royal Marines Charity - we’re so proud to be involved for such a worthy cause. .....dog show pictures to be posted soon! 🙂🐶🙂

Sparrow hawk release

Last week this beautiful sparrow hawk was a patient at the Surgery. He had been hit by a car and was stunned. After a few hours of peace and rest as you can see he made a quick escape when vet Katie released him in our garden:)
