The Resilience Funding Chronicles #1:
Vet Vicki has been on farm today discussing calf shed design, ventilation and the various risk factors influencing respiratory disease in youngstock. She also took blood samples to test for the bugs involved in pneumonia cases on farm, as well as using smoke bombs to assess the ventilation in sheds.
This is the first visit carried out as part of the free Future Farming Resilience funding - which allows ยฃ1500 worth of free vet time per farm to help reduce disease and improve animal health on farm. Vicki will return for the second visit in a couple of months to assess the success of the changes made to shed design.
Please give us a call if you would like to discuss funding for your farm, all we need is your SBI number!

Do you remember this little goat that Chris saw a couple of months ago? (Previous picture in the comments)
She managed to dislocate her foot by trapping it in a feeder. Chris relocated the joint and put a splint on!
This is her now, back to wondering round with her mum and enjoying the sunshine โ๏ธ
Routine Fertility Visit ๐ฎ Why do we do it, and what does it involve?
Proud mum of twins delivered caesarean by our vet, Amber ๐
It may be drizzling (or pouring) but Spring has certainly sprung - so the lambing calls have been coming in! These little twins were held up by one twin getting โa-headโ of himself (we make no apologies for our puns) and trying to come out face first! A little reshuffle by on-call vet, Vicki, and they were delivered safe and sound. Welcome to the world, little ones ๐
This is a video of OPU, here you can see a follicle slowly decreasing in size as the egg is collected through a special piece of kit using ultrasound guided aspiration. Ultrasound - not just useful for pregnancies!
Vet Vicki was on farm yesterday seeing a calf who has suffered repeated episodes of pneumonia.
Ultrasound examination showed numerous abscesses in the lung tissue, common of animals with "waxing and waning" chronic pneumonia. We will be monitoring the progress of this heifer using ultrasonography to see if she responds to her modified treatment protocol - fingers crossed she shows some improvement!
Can you spot the abscesses on the ultrasound?
