** NOTE: CLOSED IN 2021 **** Since 2006, the Metal Farm has been giving south bucks and the chilterns a much needed rehearsal space. Starting in a long and somewhat cramped garage in the town centre of Chalfont St. Peter behind the Delerium Records offices, orig
inally a secret lock up for Porcupine Tree's touring equipment, we moved to our present countryside location with 2 studios at the end of 2007. Nested on the border of colne valley national park, an officially designated "Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty", a whole variety of wildlife have spent the last 3 years headbanging along in rapturous approval to thunderous double bass drumming, screaming guitars, warp speed blast beats and guttural battle cries! But despite the "Metal Farm" name - largely due to the style of the majority of acts that rehearse here, and the "full metal backline" (where else would you go to find an 8 piece double bass drum kit readliy set up and at your disposal?), all styles are welcome, not just metal, and other local names such as Pause (Indie), D'arcspire (Rock/Alternative/Gothic/Pop/Everything else!), Kopastetics (Ska) and pretty much everything in between has been here at one point or another.

Notabale moments in metal farm history:
Primitive Graven Image wrote and recorded their sophomore release "Celebrating Impending Chaos " here throughout 2007 and 2008, and their follow up "Psychedelic Episodes" here in 2011/12. Divine Chaos booked a lock out over a weekend prior to their European tour with Vader in 2009. New metal band to the local scene Shatter The Sun booked out studio 2 for a few months solid in order to write their first songs and audition new members. Empyreal Destroyer rehearsed here for their legendary Bloodstock Open Air 2008 performance, also Cork Winterfest 2008 and Enblackened 2010, and new offshoot band Esurient have written an EPs worth of tracks here in recent months. Shellshock (now The Izuna Drop) penned many of the lyrics to their second album here and have also used the rehearsal space on many occasions. Ex Interlock guitarist John Tyrell did his first rehearsals with new band Khaidian here in 2009. James Stewart - drummer of Vader - auditioned for the band here and rehearsed all his drum parts for their upcoming tour here in 2012.

In 2012 the studio moved a short distance away and is now run out of a converted mobile home - once again in the middle of nowhere. I would personally like to thank Jan and all at the stables for putting up with our racket on many an occasion, along with every band that has practiced here, disturbed my sleeping pattern one way or another, made a noise, got drunk after practice and fallen in a hedge and generally contributed to what has become what many will agree it has always been- the best place to rehearse in the chilterns!
