I provide Equine Podiatry services throughout North Wales and Cheshire. Hoof trimming services are tailored to each individual horse's needs. I use a scientific approach to optimise biomechanics based upon their individual conformation, age, level of work, previous or current injuries, and any future goals. A fitting service and advice on the use of hoof boots is available if required. My service

includes advice on how exercise, diet and stable management are likely to contribute the overall health and usability of your barefoot horse. Horses with laminitis, navicular and other hoof related illnesses are trimmed using a remedial approach, and it is my goal to improve the comfort and aid relief and healing in these cases. I am trained in horse handling and can provide training for horses and owners including youngstock and nervous horses, to gain acceptance of having their feet handled without getting stressed, using sympathetic non-aggressive techniques. If you are considering going barefoot, or would like any more information, please call me for a chat. Rwyf yn cynnig gwasanaethau tocio and rhathu carnau ceffylau a merlod, ar hyd a lled gogledd Cymru. Mae'r triniaeth yn unigol I bob ceffyl wahanol, yn debyny are ei conformation, oed, math o gwaeth mae nhw'n wneud, ac unrhyw niwed, hen neu newydd. Rwyf yn cynnig gwasanaeth ffitio a chyngor am defnyddio esgidiau symydol (Hoofboots) pan mae angen. Mae'r geffylau hefo laminitis, navicular a problemau carnau arall yn gael ei drin yn arbennig, trwy sgiliau gwyddonol, a gyda'r ymgais i gwellhai ei chysur a lleuhau poen. Rwyf hefyd yn rhoi cyngor am sut mae'r bwyd, ymarfer gorfforol, ac amgylch yn gallu effeithio'r ffordd mae'r carnau un tyfu, a faint o gwaeth fydd nhw'n gallu cynnal yn eu furf bresennol. Dwi di astudio handlo geffylau, ac dwi'n gweithio hefo pobol a'u geffyliau pan fydd nhw'n ifanc neu'n nerfys, i gael y geffyl i ymlacio wrth gael ei carnau'n drin. Dwi ond byth yn defnyddio dechnegau cudymdeimliadol a goddefol. Os wyt ti'n meddwl amdan tynu'r esgidiau dy geffyl, neu os wyt ti eisiau gwybod y math o triniaeth mae 'Equine Podiatrist' yn cynnig, gnewch galwad i mi am scwrs.

I am one of 2 final year Areion Academy Integrated Equine Podiatry students.

After successful completion of a set of case studies on healthy horses feet as part of our training, we are now looking to find case studies on unhealthy feet as part of the final stages of our 2.5 year course. Case studies take place over 4 trim cycle visits. At each visit we will be accompanied by a qualified and experienced mentor (Amy Mitchell of Areion Academy and Heavenly Hooves Equine Podiatry) who will provide support and supervision.

We are looking to work with horses that have any of the following with a view to helping improve the feet over the course of the case study: under-run heels, contracted heels, distorted hoof shape, bullnosing, laminitis, navicular, significant cracks, club foot and more.

We are fully insured.

We are based in the North and would be looking for case studies in North Yorkshire/Durham/North East

If you would be interested in getting involved, please contact me for further details.

Wishing everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year.🍾πŸ₯‚

Growing out quarter cracks. No gimmicks, just biology.
5 months progress, from removing the patch that was attempting to hold the crack together, only to begin splitting through the patch itself due to the extreme forces that distorted quarters were under.
A balanced trim, with as much wall weight bearing behind the crack, whilst removing any mechanical forces off the leading edge of the crack, has allowed it to heal from the top down, without opening up at all.

I see a lot of post about posture and bone alignment. Post trim, I am looking for the horses to default to standing square, and on the vertical. True bone alignment.

My boy is looking super healthy heading into the Autumn. Teddy is quite sensitive towards many feeds designed to give condition, that contain ingredients such as Alfalfa, soy, and linseed, but is looking and feeling top dollar on Finer Forage Rockstar.

Awesome video from Areion Academy showing the effects of contracted heels on the internal frog. There's a really cool bit at the end where Debs opens the frog up to how wide it ought to be 😳

We had a fantastic weekend at the Tomas G. Teskey Veterinary Insights clinic hosted by Areion Academy. Some great thought-provoking moments and even some eureka moments too! It was so good to completely geek out on hooves, teeth and all things equus. Always great to catch up with old friends and make some new ones too. Looking forward to the next time already πŸ¦„

We continue with cadaver trims right throughout the IEP course. This is really useful because as the students knowledge grows, they are able to learn more from each different hoof and this exposes them to a lot of different situations that they would be unlikely to see in their training otherwise. It really helps them start to ask different and better questions.

This foot was a great example at our last workshop. We talked about the external signs that showed there would be a thin sole and the very cautious approach that would therefore be needed to trim. Then to evidence this we removed the sole.

In places this sole was only about a millimetre thick, you could see through it when held up to the light and I was able to cut it with a pair of scissors! The horse would of course been very sensitive but knowing what you are seeing is a vitally important skill for an equine podiatrist.

We don't ever know the history of the cadavers we work on but this horse left a legacy by teaching our students in a very powerful way.

Posted on behalf of my fellow MSc student Alison Rogers:

Hello everyone, I am an MSc Animal Nutrition Student at the University of Glasgow. I am conducting a study collecting information about equine caregivers knowledge of recommended feeding practices for equines with Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS) and to assess if these are being implemented by caregivers in the UK and Ireland. Respondents must be over 18 years old and own or care for a horse with EMS. The duration of the data collection for this study will be from December 2022 until January 2023. Participation is voluntary and anonymous; participants may exit the questionnaire at any time. It is anticipated the questionnaire will take a maximum of 10 minutes to complete. Data will be stored in password protected files for a period of up to ten years. If you have any queries or wish to have your data removed from the study, please contact me at [email protected]
The study is available at

Like men, horses paid a terrible price in the Great War. 🌺
The Army Remount Service purchased over the course of the war, some 470,000 horses in the UK, with the large haulage companies and the railways being among the major suppliers. Around 422,000 horses and 275,000 mules came from North America, 6000 horses and 1,500 mules from South America and 3,700 mules from Spain and Portugal.

Please could we ask you to take a moment to read the below post and see whether you are able help our dear friends at NCAR in any way. NCAR are just up the road from us, they they help horses, dogs, cats, rabbits.. pretty much any animal that is in need. Pony Pedicures are proud to help with the hoofcare of the horses in their care.

All rescues are full to the brim right now, with many people having to give up their pets due to the cost of living crisis, and equally, rehoming is slower as the economic uncertainty means people are not in a position to rehome. This sad situation is not going to get any easier, anytime soon.

We would like to ask you if you have any spare fleece blankets, dog food, cat food, horse food, or anything else listed in the post, please give them to Ali when he next visits you, and we will make sure they get to the rescue, to help the many animals that need them. Thank you 😊
