Everyone meet Indi! 🐾

Indi here has nearly been coming to hydrotherapy for a year now! She started in October 2022 due to having bilateral TPLO Surgery on both hind limbs in august 2022. TPLO is one of the more common surgery’s to fix the cruciate ligament.

Indi started off in our water treadmill however has since progressed to the hydrotherapy pool to help with conservative management along side physiotherapy with Mary Holland Veterinary Physiotherapist.

As you can see Indi is loving the pool and taking full advantage of relaxing and enjoying all the benefits the pool offers to help with blood flow, pain relief, reduced weight-bearing and many more!!

If you think your dog would benefit from hydrotherapy don’t hesitate to contact us!

Did you know hydrotherapy is great for your pup to relax and allows them to be completely weightless in the water? 🐾

Heres Bless showing everyone how to float in style with Amy in the hydrotherapy pool we have here 🐶

Floating in warm water provides a lots of benefits for dogs, just as it does for humans. The buoyancy reduces the strain on joints and muscles, making it an ideal therapy for older dogs or those with arthritis. The soothing effects of water promotes circulation, ease tension, and aid in the healing process, all while your dog experiences the joy of weightless play.

So, if you're looking for a unique way to pamper your pooch or support their recovery journey, consider the wonders of hydrotherapy.

Frank is 6 year old French bulldog, he started all the way back in march 2021 after spinal surgery. He has since then injured his left hind cruciate ligament.

Frank is recently back with us following his surgery to repair this starting with hydrotherapy using the underwater treadmill weekly and soon be restarting his physiotherapy with Mary Holland Veterinary Physiotherapist once he’s ready.

Everyone meet another long time client Lola! 🐾

Lola started all the way back in august 2016 for lameness in her right hind. Since then she has had TPLO surgery on both hind limbs to repair a her cruciate ligaments and is now just coming for management for arthritis and stiffness in her joints.

We sorted a plan Tailored to Lola by alternating the pool and water treadmill each week to keep her supple but still getting the benefits of the pool by being weightless 🐾

✨MILLERS BIG CHARITY CHOP at The New Inn Leven, Beverley - 29/7/23 - 2pm till late ✨

As many of you know miller has been growing his hair now for many years, miller is going to chop his hair off and donate all proceeds to NICU woman and childrens Hull. Not only is miller donating money but he will also be gifting his long hair to the princess trust who make wigs for children with cancer, giving the kids a feel of normality under such difficult time of their life's.

Miller wanted to complete this challenge after his cousin Riley Ketley started to originally grow his hair for NICU woman and children's hull after myself and Amy sadly lost 2 children Mason and Miles before Elysse and Miller was born. Unfortunately Riley never got to finish what he started as he sadly lost his life in a road traffic accident back in April 2021.

This would mean so much to all the family and friends if you could make it on the day and enjoy a bouncy castle and some music along with a bbq.

Additionally… we will be doing an auction to cut Millers hair, the highest bidder will be the one who cuts his long hair off. Hope you can all make the day and we aim to start at 2 and cut at around 5pm. If anyone can't make the day and wants to donate please donate to amys account

We would also like to invite any raffle prizes for us to raffle off to top the money up that would be great! Or If anyone has any ideas or have any raffle prizes it would be much appreciated to us all 💙

Everyone meet Ralf! 🐶

Ralf rejoined us back at the centre in April 2023 for a CCL rupture (cranial crutiate ligament rupture). He’s been loving his weekly underwater treadmill sessions with us🐾

And most importantly He’s slowly improving each week! And building up his hind limb muscles to help support his joints 💪🏼

🐾Small animal hydrotherapy can be beneficial for dogs with cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) ruptures for several reasons…

•Hydrotherapy allows dogs to engage in controlled and gentle movements, promoting muscle strengthening and joint flexibility without placing excessive stress on the injured ligament.

•The water's resistance provides resistance against the dog's movements, which can help improve the joint range of motion, flexibility, and muscle tone.

•Hydrotherapy can enhance cardiovascular endurance, promoting overall fitness and aiding in weight management, which is crucial for dogs recovering from CCL injuries.

• Most importantly water buoyancy decreases the amount of weight-bearing on the affected limb, which helps reduce the stress on the injured joint. This can help relieve pain and minimise further damage to the CCL.

How can Hydrotherapy help dogs doing Flyball, Agility and hoopers activities?

Hydrotherapy is a brilliant form of low impact exercise that helps to build muscle, increase stamina and improve overall fitness levels.

Flyball, agility and hoopers dogs need to be in tiptop condition and are also unfortunately prone to injuries.

Hydrotherapy can help by improving their condition which can help to minimise and prevent injuries by keeping their muscles more relaxed and detecting any issues early on.

It’s also fun and a different form of exercise to help offer stimulation and improve mental well-being, while improving stamina and hopefully their speed for competing.

Here’s roxy who’s been coming since October 2018 for her management of arthritis in her Hind and fore limbs and muscle wastage which she’s now built up 🐾

- How can Hydrotherapy help Arthritic Pets?

Hydrotherapy can be beneficial for Arthritis at any age be it 3yrs or 13yrs. Sometimes the signs of Arthritis are so subtle we don’t realise our furbabies are in any discomfort...... they stop playing with toys, look a little stiff when they first get up, don’t want to go as far on a walk, generally slow down, to name a few.

As Hydrotherapy is a low impact non weight bearing form of exercise in the pool or low impact partial weight bearing in the treadmill (perfect for our aquaphobic babies) our pets can move more freer in the water promoting better muscle tone and quality and helping keep the range of motion of joints as good as possible therefore helping with mobility.

Hydrotherapy helps to reduce pain and inflammation through the therapeutic properties of the water and the warmth of the water.

Hydrotherapy is also great for mental stimulation and general well-being especially in the older guys and girls and the less mobile. It’s a great feeling to see them generally looking happier.

With the weather getting gradually warmer here’s a little reminder which we post each year helping you guys to know what else you can do for your pups instead of walking them! ☀️

Please remember to watch out for your pets as while many of us like the warm weather a lot of our furry friends do struggle and can’t tell us until it’s too late.

If they haven’t been walked ideally before 8am then it is best not to walk them until after sunset. The pavements and roads are far too hot and you risk burning your dogs paws - remember the 5 second hand test. Like shown in the pictures below

Even then for some pets it is still too warm and they are still warm from the heat of the day and you risk them overheating while exercising. It won’t hurt them to miss a few walks.

There are plenty of things you can do at home sensibly with them, here are some things below.

🔹You can get a paddling pool out for them. Or bring them to hydrotherapy for a nice refreshing swim 🐾

🔹Do mental stimulation activities (enrichment). Eg, frozen kongs & licki mats - Buddys are shown in the photos for some ideas for yours!

Other top tips to remember are:

🔹Cooling mats and fans on in the house are perfect for providing cool areas for them. - You can also use your ruff and tumble drying coats and soak them in cool water and keep them cool this way aswell!

🔹Make sure fresh cool water is available at all times.

🔹Try to encourage to lay in shady places.

🔹Keep an eye on any pets that like to sun worship that they aren’t getting overheated!!

🔹Please don’t ever leave your pet in a car on hot days!

🔹Please also keep an eye on other pets too. Cats and rabbits can also suffer from the heat, amongst other pets.

🚫If you notice your pet suffering signs of heat stroke please do contact your vet for advice immediately.🚫

Did you know we offer Puppy Confidence Swims from 16 weeks of age?

They are great as part of socialisation but more importantly they are a great way of young pups getting some exercise without impacting on their young growing joints as it’s low impact and of course in helping them be confident around water🐶

Call us today on 01482 240595 or email [email protected] or even pop us a message to book your puppy in for some sessions.🐾

How well is misty doing! 🤩

Misty first came into the centre March 2022, for muscle loss on her hind limbs. Since then she has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia in her left hind and undergone TTA surgery on her right hind following a cruciate ligament injury at the end of last year and restarted hydro again after this in feb 2023.

She has been loving her weekly hydro sessions to help gain the muscle around these joints and aid the recovery along with physio 🐾

If your dog has recently undergone surgery and you think hydrotherapy will be a great benefit for your dog please don’t hesitate to pop us a ring, message or email to get started🐶
