BIRD FLU RESTRICTIONS FOR ALL POULTRY & CAPTIVE BIRDS are to come into effect across the uk from Monday 29th November 2021.

The Scottish Government has announced that housing and biosecurity measures are to be in place by Monday 29th November due to an increase in cases of bird flu across the uk. This affects all poultry and captive birds. Further information can be found on the government website

https://www.gov.scot/news/new-housing-measures-to-protect-poultry-and-captive-birds-against-avian-flu-1/

Bird keepers should review biosecurity and house birds.

28/10/2021

We have had some tough weeks over the last 19 months. When the pandemic hit us we closed our doors like many businesses. We did not go home, we could not go home. Behind those doors we have worked tirelessly, we have been available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Closure was not an option. Many days we are short staffed, we are under pressure, we feel the strain but we have been there for you throughout.

We adapted like many, because we had to. We work in small teams so that if the virus gets one of us we are not all lost. We will still be there for you.

We see a high volume of animals every day. We closed our doors so that we could continue to do so. We cannot distance behind those doors, we often work closely with each other so that we can care for our patients.

We felt the same fears and frustrations as the rest of the world. We are human. We have known people lost or affected by the virus and it surrounds us still. We did not receive priority vaccines, we were not recognised but we were there for you every day.

We did not want this pandemic. We did not choose to work this way. It’s hard. We work long hours, we are on our feet all day, often in the wind and rain, we often eat on the move or late in the day so that we are there for you when we need to be.

Our industry is in crisis. There is a national shortage of vets. Su***de rates are high. We all do our best every day.

This week has been hard. We received an attack on social media, the worst of platforms. We have been upset, we have been disheartened. But we held our heads up high, we put a smile on our faces, we carried on and we continue to be there for you. We will always be there for you.

Hopefully you can understand why we work the way we do. This has been a rollercoaster for us all. Cases are high. We will continue to adapt in every way we can and we look forward to the day that we welcome you all back inside.

Let’s remember those lost to us and be kind.
