✨ 𝙒𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝘿𝙖𝙮 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙑𝙖𝙘𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙨 ✨

I will have some Day Care spaces open up from w/c 30th September, however, they will not suit everyone, so I'll explain below.

We accept dogs who are:
🐾 Up to 12kg
🐾 3 years +
🐾 Neutered
🐾 Well socialised with other dogs (calm and comfortable)

The spaces are flexible, meaning that there will not be availability on the same days each week. I release the dates available for day care at least 4 weeks in advance and they are booked on a ‘first come’ basis.

I try to be open Monday-Friday each week, with weekends being available for regular attendees only on an infrequent basis.

𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝘀.

We accept a maximum of 3 dogs, which includes Milo, so that there's plenty of love and attention to go around, plus many quiet rooms to choose from should your dog want some quiet time.

Our current guest list comprises of a mix of cockerpoo's, Cocker's, cavapoo's, shih Tzu's, Westie's, Cavalier King Charles', chihuahua mix and pug mix.

I hold a 5 star home boarding license with Wigan Council - AAL0154.

After an incident this afternoon i felt the need to explain dog trainer facial expressions -

This one means one of two things……
🤞🏼Don’t speak to me unless i’ve had coffee
🤞🏼Kindly put your crazy but adorable red bull fuelled fluff ball on a lead and contact me for some recall training

In this situation, i’m not being rude , I’m speaking up for my clients because they can’t.

The dog approached might be

➡️fearful anxious and reactive - navigating their way through and an over enthusiastic dog is not going to help us building confidence.
➡️frustrated adolescent or a timid new puppies trying to learn that distractions around them are non of their business
➡️Older with physical limitations who need thier space
➡️I don’t like hugs from people outside of my household unless they are fur covered….not all dogs like bum sniffs…..or being pounces on and not every dog has the skills to communicate this
➡️Rescue dog trying to adjust to a whole new life
➡️High drive impulsive dog who might have taken the majority of the session to get into a thinking state and don’t welcome the distraction

✨ Are your dog's vaccinations up to date? ✨

Conditions of boarding stipulate that your dog must be up to date with their vaccinations before their stay

Core vaccinations include DHP and Lepto. We also require your dog to receive the Kennel Cough vaccination.

As DHP and KC are live vaccines, there is a wait period between administration and being accepted into boarding.

Please check your dog's vaccinations are up to date and administered at least 4 weeks before they are due to go on their own holiday.

Moving away from heatstroke itself and looking at what else the heat can do.

I’ve seen dogs with mild to moderate heart disease develop heart failure within hours when the air temperature rises. Dogs with kidney disease that was well controlled develop kidney failure, and those with lung/respiratory problems collapse and become blue. These are not dogs necessarily being walked in hot weather but being in a home where the air temperature is hot. So get that fan on and provide multiple cold water drinking bowls! If they are panting whilst in the home, pop cold water on their belly and other hairless areas regularly.

Last minute holiday, or been "let down"? I'm sorry, I can't accommodate!

I've been inundated over the last few weeks with enquiries for home boarding to start within a few weeks, some are to start within a few days!

I understand last minute holidays get booked, or the planned dog care is now not happening (family or friends usually), but as a licensed dog boarder, we have procedures and protocols to follow which includes registration and trial periods before the dog can stay.

July and August are our busiest months, meaning we can't fit in the registration or trial stays.

I do actually have this information on my website, however, I find many don't care to read 🤔

And no, I won't make exceptions for anyone, even if this holiday is super special and the first one you've had in 10 years 🥴

Please don't be surprised if you don't get a response to your enquiry or you find that most home boarders can't accommodate at such short notice.

It is important to identify and understand heat stress, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke. Heatstroke is the final stage, these dogs are SEVERELY affected. Seizures, clotting problems, blood lost through vomit and diarrhoea. These dogs are in shock! Submerging icy water is potentially their only chance.

Those who are panting hard, walking like they are drunk, having vomiting and/or diarrhoea without blood, NOT having seizures will respond to cold water on hairless areas and a fan. We don’t need to be as aggressive with our cooling.

All dogs affected by the heat should have a vet check…

These policies cover various aspects, including cancellations, procedures if your dog is unwell on the scheduled day, and requirements for worming, flea treatment, and vaccinations.

I sat Teddy at his home this weekend, we were kept entertained with snuffle mats, puzzle toys, Kong's, chasing a cat from the garden, cuddling and snoozing on the couch whilst it rained.

🐾 DOG BOARDER v DOG SITTER 🐾

Dog Boarders care for the dog in the boarders home - this means they must hold a valid boarding license with their respective council, be insured (they can't obtain a license without insurance) and adhere to strict procedures and regulations as set out by DEFRA.

Dog Sitters care for the dog in the dog's own home. This is not regulated by a governing body, like Dog Boarding, however, a professional Dog Sitter will be insured, hold qualifications (like Canine First Aid), and still ensure certain procedures are followed and welfare standards met. Paperwork should be completed.

Connie's Canine Care provides both of these services, and whichever you choose will depend on your dog's needs and circumstances.

If I don't have availability, I am happy to recommend fellow boarders.
I will only recommend sitters who I know are insured, hold qualifications and complete necessary paperwork to ensure the welfare of the dog is met.

⚠️ Is your home boarding provider licensed? ⚠️

In England, Scotland, and Wales, it's compulsory for all home boarders, day care facilities, and kennels to be licensed by their respective councils.

🔸Essentially, anyone caring for dogs in their home must hold a valid license🔸

Before leaving your dog with anyone, always request to see their license - it should be visibly displayed on-site if you visit their home, or accessible on their website, social media, or other advertising platforms, whether they are an individual or a service listed on platforms like Rover, Pet Backer, GuDog, Bark, BorrowMyDoggy, or similar services.

No license means no oversight. Without a license, their business insurance is invalid, potentially affecting pet insurance coverage. Dogs at unlicensed premises may be removed by authorities and placed in kennels.

If a "boarder" avoids licensing, why?

Skipping this vital step means they are trading ILLEGALLY and raises questions about their experience, qualifications, and first aid training.
