Yesterday I said a fond farewell to the lovely Holly. I’ve been grooming her for 9 years every six weeks and apart from Covid she’s never missed a single appointment. Her family are emigrating to Australia and she’s going with them flying out next week. Have the best life lovely girl, I’ll certainly miss seeing you 🇦🇺🦘🌏

⚠ Alabama Rot - confirmed case ⚠
Unfortunately we have seen a confirmed case of Alabama Rot, also known as CRGV, this time in the Cleobury Mortimer area. An additional case is suspected but not yet confirmed.
While there is no need for panic, we're advising dog owners to be vigilant and to contact their vet if their dog develops unexplained skin lesions, particularly on the legs or paws.
We don't yet know what causes CRGV and it remains a very rare disease. Most cases occur between November and May and there is some evidence of a link to walking in wet, muddy woodland areas. It may be beneficial to wash and dry your dog after a muddy walk. Current advice is that there is no need to avoid walking in certain areas.
Signs to look for:
▪️ Skin sores not caused by a known injury, particularly on the legs or paws
▪️ Swollen skin
▪️ Redness
Signs that may be seen if kidney problems develop:
▪️ Vomiting
▪️ Changes in behaviour such as fatigue or lack of appetite
Further information can be found at Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists dedicated page ➡️ www.alabama-rot.co.uk

Are your working dogs ready for winter?
Unlike our ruminant livestock, dogs don’t have the in-built furnace of the rumen to keep warm in the colder months. In ‘the wild’, the pack would spend the night sleeping in the pile for warmth. In contrast, we mostly house dogs singly in outdoor kennels.
A NZ study found that the vast majority (86%) of kennels were uninsulated, and less than half (44%) of kennels had any form of bedding. This is compounded as working dogs are so lean – they carry little insulation or padding; 16% of dogs were found to have obvious pressure sores. Furthermore, the breeds we use often have smooth and short coats.
Related studies using activity monitors have shown that cold kennelled dogs spend less time resting – and far more time shivering or moving around to keep warm. The lack of rest not only impairs their recovery and increases feed requirement.
The ideal temperature is between 10-26˚C – obviously kennels in Northumberland will dip below this range in the winter, so you can:
• Provide bedding for warmth and comfort
• Provide a coat for extra insulation
• Insulate kennels – what better job for all those low value fleeces?

Sometimes all you need is time, patience, kindness and trust! He is a Romanian Rescue who is not only nervous but also limited vision making life even more challenging! When his owner contacted me to groom him last year she said the last time he’d been done he’d been sent home wet as they were unable to do anything with him and couldn’t get him dry. Over the last 18 months we have taken our time building his trust slowly with each grooming session. Today we reached a milestone, his owner had to go out and so gave me a key to the house. I went in, he recognised me and happily trotted to the van. He had a full groom with bath, blow dry and a tidy up trim and lots of treats! He was so happy and really is a very special dog that just needed to know he could trust me 🥰

Today I met the sweetest and most gentle cavalier. She had been rescued by Many Tears Animal Rescue from an awful life of puppy farming, breeding litter after litter of puppies with no concern for her health or welfare 😢 She is now in the most wonderful home and receives unconditional love 🥰 For a dog that spent most of her life with no care or kind words she really is such a loving little dog xx

When there’s too many prickles on the ground it’s much easier to hitch a lift!
Ever fancied giving agility a go?
I've just started taking Bentley to Midway Agility Dogs based in Aymestrey. Teri runs classes during the week and on Saturdays for beginners to experienced handlers. It's a great way to have fun, socialise and train your dog and meet new people!
Here's a video of Bentley, as you can see, we are not very good yet but getting better every time and he absolutely loves it x

TERMS & CONDITIONS
Throughout the grooming process, I take the utmost care to ensure the health, safety and well-being of your dog. However, I am not liable for any pre-existing conditions and problems found throughout the grooming process. I will also ensure that my equipment is clean and in good working order.
In the event of injury or illness, a vet may be sought and all costs will be at the owner's expense unless proven to be a direct result of Paws Galore Grooming. All clients must sign a dog grooming customer care card and are asked to inform me of any known health or medical problems, general temperament, allergies, etc. Please also inform me of any changes that occur in your dog's health details accordingly.
I will carry out a pre-groom health check on your dog which consists of checking their eyes, ears, mouth including teeth and bottom area. I will also examine your dog’s coat for any parasites or for any lumps or bumps during the grooming session. If anything untoward is discovered I will notify you but under the Veterinary Surgeons Act I am not able to diagnose or suggest a treatment so your vet should be consulted.
You must inform me if your dog has aggressive tendencies. A muzzle will only be used where absolutely necessary and I reserve the right to refuse to groom a dog if I am risk of being injured or if the dog is becoming too stressed. The full fee will still be charged. Although I am an experienced dog and animal owner with a Level 3 City & Guilds Dog Grooming qualification sometimes a dog may find the grooming experience too stressful to continue. Paws Galore reserve the right to refuse to groom an aggressive or difficult dog with behavioural issues and the owner must agree to inform me if their dog is known to be aggressive or has previously bitten anyone. The owner understands that they will be legally liable for the consequence of all bites caused by their dog.
UPDATE – Due to Covid-19, in the event of matted coats it is likely that the coat will need to be completely clipped off and the owner should be aware that irritation may occur from the shaving process. The owner also agrees that Paws Galore Mobile Grooming will not be held liable for any after effects or problems that are uncovered on a severely matted or neglected coat. In the cases of a complete clip down the owner agrees that this will be done without any signed consent as this will contravene the Covid-19 social distancing laws. Please also note your dog will most likely look very different afterwards but rest assured the coat should grow back fairly quickly although in some extreme cases the coat may not always grow back the same. Whilst every effort is made to groom your dog to meet your expectations or to replicate images provided, no guarantee can be made in this regard. Paws Galore Mobile Grooming accepts no responsibility for the groom not being carried out according to instructions or to visual expectations.
I may take photographs of your dog before, during and after their groom and these images may be used for marketing activities such as the website and social media unless you specifically request me not to do so.
Full payment is required upon completion of your dog and I accept cash and cheques payable to Paws Galore Grooming. I am fully insured, details are available on request.
Whilst I am happy for you to change or cancel your appointment please try and give me as much notice as possible. At least 24 hours’ notice is required to enable me to fill your appointment. Less than this will incur a 50% fee and if I arrive at your premises and you are not at home or no longer want the appointment the full fee will apply due to loss of time and travelling costs to your property.
Before the Paws Galore van arrives please take your dog out to the toilet and if possible a walk first so that your dog will be more relaxed.
