Eggs have some amazing health benefits for your dog. They are a complete food source. Here are some of the important nutrients in eggs;

🥚 Protein -
Eggs are one of the most complete sources available of amino acids - the all important building blocks of protein. By adding eggs to your dog’s meals, you’re giving the diet a protien boost.

🥚 Vitamins and Minerals -
Eggs are a nutritional powerhouse, with a great range of nutrients, such as..
- Fatty acids
- Vitamin A
- Vitamin B12
- Folate
- Riboflavin

Did you know that there were eleven raw pet food manufacturers with stands at Crufts this year!

Eleven!

It's unheard of - I can remember the first time Natures Menu appeared a few years back.

And eleven means that there were just as many raw food companies as conventional dried food companies at the World's Biggest Dog Show.

So let's not be listening to people telling us it's a fad. (Gee whizz I have fed raw for thirty years!)

Or that's it's dangerous. (Check the Government Food Standards Agency alerts to see that dried dog food is recalled far more frequently than raw.)

Feeding raw is here to stay, as stacks of owners now know that giving their dogs fresh and unadulterated nutrition is the way to go.

And it was lovely to see some of the Awesome and Rawsome Pets shop suppliers at Crufts too.

QUICK NOTE ON KEFIR...
We've really no idea how much of the good stuff in kefir - the live, commensal bacteria - gets through to your dog's intestines. We suspect some, as so many of you out there testify to its positive effects, but how much is debatable.

The dog's system, with antibacterial saliva and highly acidic stomach, particularly when digesting a meal, is not the friendliest place for bacteria. The acidity surely helps them with meat digestion (the enzymes necessary to break down this meal need this pH) but it surely protects them when dining out on any of the less-fresh stuff that we know these big-nosed carrion scavengers are more than happy to dabble in.

The science on probiotics as a whole is a bit murky. Some are meant to get in there and take hold, repopulate the garden type thing (most of your broad spectrum probiotics) while others are only meant to be get in there an exist for a short time, releasing their cool, beneficial, anti-bacterial compounds (eg soil probiotics that would rather live in....well, soil).

What we do know when feeding probiotics is that it's a total numbers game. You are throwing troops at the guns.

So, if the goal is to get as much of the kefir life (which type is another debate, I prefer probiotics designed for carnivores but the stuff in kefir will be zero harm and likely some benefit for sure, if just from the human studies....though granted we eat a more plant-based diet and house a gut flora more conducive to kefir's goodies...) through to the small intestines where we hope them to have some effect, then instead of paste (or ice cube) form in on top of the food where it will enter a boiling cauldron of anti-life acid and pulveristaion, it might be best that you give kefir outside of mealtimes and in fair a bit liquid. This way it will more quickly shoot through the empty, unsuspecting stomach to the intestines.

A nice, light, probiotic, yoghurty drink for lunch!

As it's a numbers game I tend to avoid the probiotics in powder form meant to be put on the food, can't see too much of that getting through. I prefer the ones in time-release capsules - they don't dissolve in the gut but at a certain pH in the intestines, guaranteeing a much bigger release of troops to the target area. Eg Hyperbiotics for Pets, I am nothing to do with this company but really should take shares out in it at this stage. Problem is they use a meat digest in there, possibly lamb. Why, why do they do this?! Most do, if you can believe it. It really scuppers an exclusion diet which is the #1 customer for such supplements).

Anyway, bloody hell, I just came on here to write a two-line tip. I am completely unable to stop talking...

I have fed raw for nearly thirty years.

And I think one of my biggest bonuses is that vet bills have generally only happened for major issues. One such episode each for Jasmin and Benji. None so far for Evie at two years of age.

Two big problems and I truly appreciate my vets for their work with those.

But no ear infections. No upset stomachs. No allergies. Nothing.

I haven’t deflea'd a dog in twenty years and I haven’t wormed a dog in nearly a decade (and yes I do do worm counts to check 👍).

Money saved on vets and unwanted products means it can go elsewhere; probably still on the dogs though 🤣

I became a dog behaviourist because I had a dog with a behavioural problem.

I became a premium dog feeder because, once I understood the link between food and brain, I knew I had to change from the heavily advertised over processed brands.

I became a pet shop owner because I wanted ALL owners to know the link between nutrition and their dogs mental and physical health.

All because my dog had a behavioural problem I was set on the path to Animal Star Awards Dog Trainer/Behaviourist of the Year 2019 and the owner of Awesome and Rawsome Pets.

It’s a little bit stressful this journey, but it makes me smile to think of it.

Today’s The Forever Dog Longevity Tip:
When it’s treat time, try serving up slivers of fisetin-rich strawberries.🍓In addition to enjoying a delicious snack, your dog will also get a dose of this powerful longevity molecule and gut-loving fiber, too.🐶

Researchers have found that a natural plant compound (polyphenol) called Fisetin is a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Fisetin is present in many fruits and vegetables, including apples, persimmons, and cucumbers, with one of the richest sources being strawberries.🍎🥒🍓

Recently, scientists have discovered it also kills senescent cells—those “zombie 🧟‍♀️ cells” that are a hallmark of premature aging (cell senescence is when cells lose their ability to divide but don’t die, so they just hang out and damage healthy cells).

A cell study published in the journal Aging showed that Fisetin eliminated about 70 percent of Zombie cells while doing no harm to healthy, normal cells.

A study on animals consuming fisetin showed they lived longer and experienced less age-related issues, which prompted an ongoing clinical trial at the Mayo clinic examining the direct effects of fisetin supplementation on age related dysfunction in humans.

Occasionally, you’ll read information that suggests avoiding feeding strawberries to dogs; this comes from the rare possibility that dogs can consume too many green leafy strawberry stems and can cause an upset stomach. Removing the green stem removes any risk of GI upset. Buy organic or spray-free.
