Currently the vaccine is limited only for use in very specific cases (zoos) and within England only. Avian influenza (AI) could now be classed as endemic. It has spread throughout the UK in wild and captive birds. The vaccine should be allowed for use in captive birds.

I have finally finished adding the red pvc to all the nest boxes and the area underneath for timid hens to hide.
Thank you Lou Scannon for sourcing the pvc, Iβm now ready for lots of hens to arrive on the 21st to await their forever homes in safety ππππ
Now that the hens can free range, please be extra vigilant. The fox cubs are hungry and the parents will be on the lookout for an easy meal.

DID YOU KNOW:
Maize/sweetcorn is very heating.
It doesnβt actually raise a henβs body temperature and itβs fine to feed in the evening in winter when itβs cold BUT its high calorific content fuels their metabolism when fed in the warmer weather.
If you are seeing feather eating, more squabbles or even cannibalism in your hens do consider this as a contributing factor, especially when introducing new hens to your flock.
Iβve actually thrown away the remains of a sack of mixed corn today for this reason. Mixed corn can be given at the end of the day from October to February. From March to September this should be replaced by whole wheat.
I will replace my mixed corn with a bag of whole wheat to use as a treat at the end of each day.
Flockdown will finally be over on May 2nd, so why not treat your hens to some new sisters!!!!!!

Bless him, he didnβt know how to fend for himself when he was dumped π₯Ή
So he ate a load of marble sized snails, completely filling his crop. His digestive system could probably break one or two down provided they didnβt obstruct his gizzard.
But with this number he would have starved to death before he had broken them down as there was no room in his crop for proper food.
Surgery to remove them will save his life provided one isnβt obstructing his gizzard already.
A mad dash from Lincolnshire to Kent and back for surgery will hopefully save his life.

REHOME APPEAL 14th May
This is poppy. Poppy is a hen who we saved from a commercial farm in April. Poppy has been laying eggs for people her whole adult life. Her insides are tired and sheβs broken.
We will try to fix poppy and are determined to give her the retirement she deserves.
