Pain is whatever the patient says it is. If you know a dog struggling with hyper-arousal - check for gut discomfort and imbalances, do blood tests and book a vet physio or some scans with your vet to see actually your dog is in pain.
Note to trainers and behaviourists - Bull breeds will often show pain in hyper-arousal, it could even look like ‘gameness’. Grabbing is often a big indicator of discomfort for me and sadly this is often mistaken as a ‘genetic need’. The grabbing behaviour we see often in Bull breeds was developed through a trauma response as a mechanism for subduing the bulls they were pit against. So when they are in pain or feeling under duress this is often the behaviour we see, the dogs who showed more gameness through pain survived and were bred from.

I hate to think of people struggling with their animals and that support is out of reach. So if my prices are genuinely problematic for you please just get in touch and we can discuss it. Ultimately I want to help and I understand what an isolating feeling it is to need support and not being able to access it truly is. So please don't struggle alone

Hello any behaviourist friends - I’ve been asked if I know a behaviourist who can dog test a dog in Nottinghamshire? The dog has a possible home and came from a multi dog house hold but the rescue want further assessments. For a bull breed.

As a pet parent, and anyone who interacts with dogs, its our duty to learn the signs and signals our dog is showing us when they communicate. It is when we ignore these signs that the bite risk escalates.

Children are particularly at risk of bites as they are rarely taught the safest ways to interact with their four legged friends.

But who's responsibility is it to teach children about dog behaviour?

A recent study from the Centre for Human Animal Studies (CfHAS), Edge Hill University demonstrates how important this is.

Read the snippet below:

Understanding dog behaviour and educating about risk.
Respondents had strong opinions when it comes to educating children about whether and how they thought children should be taught to interact with dogs. The vast majority (95.5%) of respondents agreed that children should be taught how to interact with dogs. As to where children should get this information, most (93.8%) thought that parents should teach children and 69.1% of the sample thought that children should be taught how to interact with dogs at school.

Why Don’t You Listen? is a beautifully illustrated story book, teaching children how to recognise when dogs are in pain. It is a must read for all families that share their lives and homes with our four-legged friends. Now back in stock!

Processing - I know I post about allowing your dog to process A LOT; but I this think is a key player in ALLOWING your dog to process their emotions adequately. It seems obvious right? But most of us (even lots of professional positive reinforcement trainers) do not appreciate the importance of this behaviour. This is especially something we need to consider now for our restricted dogs.
If you’d like some exercises on how you can help your dog have more processing time to enrich their lives a bit more - let me know 🥰🐕

As you may or may not have seen - I have been holding low cost 121 sessions and a workshop for Bully guardians and those who’s dogs fall under BSL Section 1 of the DDA.

I am also the caregiver to a lovely rescue 33kg standard American Bully called Piglet.
I created a pack for people to take away from my low cost sessions which includes video links for important things like body language to training cues and games. There also includes information on coping thresholds, enrichment and muzzle training. This is a hyper link and I regularly update the pack with all that I learn from my main teacher Piglet, my other lovely canine tutors in my sessions and other professionals.

I thought it might be a good idea to make this pack available to buy for £10.

Get in touch if you’d like to purchase one, it is skills and knowledge you’ll have for life. Using science-based methods from a qualified professional who has spent 14 years keeping and working with Bull Breeds.

Includes:
- How to understand your dog’s behaviour and what you need to know before you start training.
- The important training cues you really need and how to teach them.
- Enrichment
- Equipment
- Muzzle training
And more!

Hello! Putting feelers out for any dog training and behaviour businesses who might be hiring another behaviourist to do virtual or phone consults. I need some more reliable work and I currently don’t have the means to market myself very well.

What equipment do I use to walk my American Bully as a qualified behaviourist:

T-Touch Harness
Halti double ended lead
Muzzle Shop muzzle (I sometimes use Muzzle Movement)

Winter gear:
Hotter Dog fleece
Great And Small Country coat

I have had quite a few people come to me for muzzle training support, after following the correct muzzle training strategies (via Dog’s Trust etc) and their dogs are still not comfortable in the muzzle. All of these dogs have been on the Baskerville Ultra. If you have this muzzle wrap the top with bandage or similar to ensure it doesn’t cut the dog’s muzzle. If you can get a different style similar to the muzzle shop or muzzle movement this is ideal. If not drop me a message and I will try to assist you!

Hello! I’m Jess and this is what I can help with:

•Integrating family members with a pre existing dog – e.g. dog, cat or (human) baby
•Sessions for neurodivergent care givers
•Low-cost community clinics for vulnerable people are available
•Dog to dog aggression
•Dog to human aggression
•Destructive doggy – taring your house apart?
•Hyper dog? – my dog won’t settle!
•Breed-bespoke training
•Muzzle training – let’s help your dog love their muzzle
•Human-dog mediation – feel like you and your dog aren’t ‘getting along?’
•Puppy days – puppy inductions from socialisation to diet
•Canine communication – What’s my dog trying to say?
•Abnormal and inconvenient behaviours – Is your dog excessively urinating, shadow chasing or excessively barking?
Socialisation – is your dog antisocial?
Basic training – functional cues for a modern world
RELAX! – need help with your highly strung dog?
OUCH – is your dog in pain and it’s affecting their behaviour?
Equipment – is your dog lead grabbing or backing away from the harness?
Expecting – whether it’s a new puppy or a human species, get in touch and find out how to prepare.
Loose lead walking – I’m 5’1 with a 35kg bull breed who walks on the lead with ease? No prong collar or halter? It’s not sorcery, it’s science!

When it comes to prong collars, slip leads and choke chains for training, first of all it’s embarrassing because I’m a 5’1 7 stone female who is about as frail as a leaf - I don’t need that equipment neither should you.

Secondly there is a reason veterinary physiotherapists don’t suggest them for clients. They damage your dog’s musculoskeletal system and health.
I understand some social media trainers promote them but having 5mil followers doesn’t mean you’re qualified, it means you have fantastic marketing not fantastic skills in teaching dogs or empathy.

I would like to take this moment to ask all bully advocacy public platforms to STOP sharing footage of dogs wearing prong collars, slip leads and e-collars. That is not advocacy.

Our Story

Walking :- NW10 Boarding:- London & surrounding areas including Sussex

No van - only comfy seats and seatbelts!

I possess a National Diploma from Merrist Wood in Animal Management along with 6 years experience working in rescue, having successfully rehabilitated and rehomed over 40 dogs (and even a few cats) it is safe to say I am a Dolittle! I have a thorough understanding of their needs and always have an animal's best interests as my first and foremost priority. I believe in maintaining a patient light-hearted demeanour at all times and am more than happy to help with any behavioural issues. Having also hired dog walkers in the past whilst working full time, I understand that there are 3 very important things that make a great service: 1. A careful and trustworthy person to love your dog. 2. Someone who can tire your dog out to relieve any anxiety. 3. Value for money. *No breed prejudice* *A lifetime of experience with rescue dogs* *Full enhanced DBS check* *National Diploma Animal Management. *Nutritional whiz* *Canine behaviour whiz*
