😻 KITTENS 😻

This gorgeous trio of brothers visited head nurse Jen yesterday morning for their second vaccinations and microchip implants.

It's always daunting having to microchip conscious patients because, of course, none of us want to inflict pain on them! Thankfully, because of Jen's gentle, cat-friendly approach, the kittens barely noticed their vaccinations or microchip implants 😺

EMLA (numbing cream) was applied to a patch of skin between their shoulders approximately 20 minutes before Jen implanted their microchips. In the meantime, with Ellen's help for cuddles and distraction, they had a bit of time to explore the room and discover their favourite snacks. While distracted with snacks, they had their vaccinations without noticing; Jen then cleaned the skin and implanted their microchips once a fresh pile of snacks were available in front of them. They were all absolute SUPERSTARS!! ⭐⭐⭐

Don't forget, it is now a legal requirement that your cat is microchipped and registered with correct details on a database. If your cat does not have a microchip, get in touch with us at the clinic and we can arrange an appointment for you.

😻 Zorro & Suki 😻

Gorgeous brothers, Zorro & Suki, spent the day with us today to be castrated and have their microchips implanted. They were both very well behaved and, as you can see from their pictures, woke up very nicely and enjoyed some playtime afterwards ❀️

Don't forget, from Friday 10th June 2024, it will become a legal requirement for cats in England to be microchipped and registered on a database by the time they are 20 weeks old!

😻 Kitty 😻

Gorgeous girl Kitty visited us a couple of weeks ago as she was feeling very unwell and had stopped eating. Thankfully, after some investigations, placement of an oesophageal feeding tube for assisted feeding, and plenty of supportive medication, Kitty is feeling so much better!

Although she is now eating fully by herself and taking her medications in treats alone, we are still going to leave her feeding tube in place for at least another week, just to be on the safe side.

Cats tolerate oesophageal feeding tubes surprisingly well, and they play a vital role in the recovery for a lot of patients. They can be left in place for prolonged periods of time and they also allow owners to give any oral medications directly through them, rather than potentially causing additional stress when they are unwell and on multiple medication.

Kitty visited Head Nurse Jen this afternoon to have her dressing and bandage changed and was an absolute superstar ⭐

We're all so proud of you, Kitty!! ❀️

❕CAT FOUND - PLEASE SHARE❕

Yesterday a concerned member of the public brought in a cat to us to be scanned for a microchip, as they had found him wandering worryingly close to the dual carriageway, near Manor Circus TW9 (near Sainsbury's/BP garage).

He is a neutered male, ginger & white. We successfully scanned his microchip but unfortunately, despite multiple attempts, have been unable to get through to his owner. We are unsure if it is that the details are not up to date or that they are on holiday, but we are desperate to get him back home. He is a lovely boy and someone must be missing him 🧑

He is happy, well, uninjured and safe. Our Head Nurse Jen is looking after him this weekend, as we were concerned to take him back to near where he was found, in case he might be an indoor cat that has managed to get out and get lost.

We are closed over the weekend but if you think this may be your cat, or you know of a cat of this description that is missing, please email us, as Jen will be keeping an eye on emails over the weekend: [email protected]

Proof of ownership will be required.

Thank you 😻

🌟 Manuelzinho 🌟

Superstar boy, Manuelzinho, is one of our chronic medical cases, who visits regularly for check-ups for his chemotherapy treatment. Understandably, and particularly after multiple visits, he is not the biggest fan of being held for bloods and, although he does love lick-e-lix, he doesn't love it quite enough to keep him completely distracted for more than a millisecond! 🀭

We have tried multiple distraction techniques in the past, one of which involved Jen making up a song and a dance for him (poor Manuelzinho!) but will often still need to use a smidge of sedation to help. Today, Manuelzinho deserved an extra big gold star, as we were able to take a blood sample without the need for any sedation! With Manuelzinho perched on Patricia's shoulder, Jen was able to obtain his blood sample while he was distracted with lick-e-lix πŸŽ‰

Here is Manuelzinho chilling in reception and waiting for the rain to stop, shortly before going home. Well done, gorgeous boy! 😻

The joy of lick-e-lix! Lulu is a nervous visitor, but soon forgets all about being here when lick-e-lix is on offer! πŸ₯° Nothing makes us happier than seeing nervous patients warm to us, even if it is through bribery πŸ˜‰

As a long-standing fan of Lulu's, Head Nurse Jen couldn't resist a cuddle before Lulu went home to enjoy the rest of her day 😻

😽 Keep Your Cats Safe This Easter 😽

❗ With Easter just around the corner, it is important to remember that there are many hazards that come with our celebrations

🌷 As well as popular springtime flowers, chocolate and decorations can also be hazardous to our pet's health.

🚫 With lilies, they should always be avoided in any home with cats, as every part of the plant is highly toxic! 🚫

And remember to keep all chocolate and potentially hazardous decorations out of paws' reach! 🍫 🐣

If you are worried about any other potential hazards around the home at this time of year, please do not hesitate to reach out and ask us about them.

Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable time, this Easter weekend - now let's hope for some spring-like weather! 🌀️

Ebony is summer ready 🌞😻

With spring and summer slowly creeping it's way towards us, Ebony's family wanted to ensure that she was ready for the warmer months to come. Every year, Ebony will visit us for her functional lion-clip haircut, as not only does she sometimes get get matted fur, but she also much prefers a shorter style in the warmer months.

Ebony doesn't allow this grooming to be done consciously, which, unfortunately for her, is why she has to settle for a much less professional level of a cut, under mild sedation. Ebony's family report that she always comes home feeling like a new woman after her pamper sessions with us ❀️

You may remember Pumpkin from a post in December, where she came to us for her first visit. Here she is today, all grown up and in for her spay and microchip implant.

Pumpkin is such a happy little soul and was purring almost non-stop and lapping up the attention from us all ❀️

😻 Kitkat 😻

Beautiful little Kitkat visited today to have a comprehensive oral health assessment and treatment with Sprio; everything went very smoothly, and she is now on her way home for plenty of snuggles to help aid her recovery. We look forward to seeing her back on Friday for her post-operative checkup.

Kitkat is blessed with eternal youth - despite looking like a tiny kitten, she is actually 13 years old - we would all love to know her secret! Do you have a cat that is a permanent kitten? ❀️

Speedy recovery, little lady 😘

🐯 Tiger 🐯

This handsome chap is Tiger, and he spent the day with us on Wednesday to have a comprehensive oral health assessment and treatment with Dr Spiro.

After having full mouth radiographs and probing of all teeth, Tiger got off lightly, and only needed a few small teeth removing. He had the rest of his teeth thoroughly cleaned and was soon tucking in to a delicious bowl of tuna and salmon! 🧑

Tiger visited us this afternoon for his first post-operative check and we are pleased to report that he is doing very well 😻

❀️ Grub ❀️

Sweet boy Grub visited us recently to have a comprehensive oral health assessment and treatment (COHAT), as several dental issues had been noticed on clinical exam.

❗Slides further on in this post do include pictures of Grub's teeth during his procedure (in black and white), as well as pictures of his radiographs. If this is likely to make you squeamish, just admire his gorgeous face in the first slide instead ❗

Once Grub was under anaesthetic for his procedure, Patricia began her assessment by taking full mouth radiographs. This enabled Patricia to assess the overall health of each tooth, not just what we see at surface level; it also allows us to pick up on other issues and abnormalities that we otherwise wouldn't know about without radiographs.

πŸ”ΈSlide 2: This shows Grub's detailed dental chart, based on xrays and visually probing each tooth individually
πŸ”ΈSlide 3: Labelled is one of Grub's top right premolars (108), where the caudal root is displaced from the usual socket, something that we would be none the wiser of, without full mouth radiographs
πŸ”ΈSlide 4: This shows an extra tooth that Grub had (next to his 207). There is usually a tooth next to the 207 - the 206 - but the extra tooth is not where the 206 should be, but instead right next to the 207, making it very crowded
πŸ”ΈSlide 5: The labelled tooth is the big molar of the lower right jaw. There is advanced resorption and exposure of the root, where Patricia was able to put the dental probe right through the tooth
πŸ”ΈSlide 6: This shows advanced resorption of both lower canines, as well as a pathological fracture of the canine of Grub's right lower canine (404)

Grub had a total of 15 teeth extracted, but is feeling much better for it! He came to visit Patricia this morning for his final post operative check; everything has healed beautifully, he is eating very well and is his usual, gorgeous, happy self (and covered in chicken treats!) 😻

Good job, Grub! ❀️
