Happy New Year fellow horsey friends π π
1st ride of 2024... good girly straight on after a couple of weeks off.
She cracks me up though, we were bucking in the stable beforehand π... but I always feel 100% safe hopping on 𧑠Ginger diva.
Lovely trot and canter rhythm through the woods.
Annual dentist visit for these guys π¦·
ππ§οΈ... What a start to the week.
Had a super polewok lunge session this morning and popped a jump!
Now she's pleading to come back in ππ
This is absolutely brilliant π€£... had to share it from a friends fb page β€οΈ
Just seen this... so me and Anya when I think shes zoomie.... π
πβ€οΈπ€ Remember our minute silence
I've been abit quiet recently... winters here and I feel i've been on a wind down for christmas.
But today I had a lovely day schooling Josh in the sunshine.... super boy... spirals and yielding with lots of long and low.
Josh has recently had the physio and its made a huge difference to his way of going, change of temperament and physical
well-being. Sometimes we do a silly in the field π Happy boy now β€οΈπ€
Captured a super hindleg engagement in these photos π€©π·
Love this drama β€οΈ...

Quinn you are such a good pony ππ¦
You give my friends so much pleasure...
Good Boy
Clipping kind of day...
Omg this lot came off a 12.2hh pony π±
Just a low chaser! Already now for a half term hack.
No photo of the so called smart pony as she was far too desperate to get out in field than pose for me. ππ€³
This evidence of a good clip was alot easier to snap. βοΈπΈπ
Did you know that kinesiology tape can help re train your horse to use its body differently?
When horses are injured they can become locked in to compensatory patterns even when the injury has healed. Itβs not as if we can say to them β youβre all healed now so you donβt need to move like that anymoreβ This is where k tape works its magic by improving the proprioceptive feedback between the brain and the effected area. Tape for proprioception can be anywhere on the body that will benefit.
Interesting read π π€...
I think our horses throw things at us to help us learn to cope with stressful situations in our lives.
Our four legged friends make you think and observe π€... to break things down and tackle individually.
Having a plan and moving forward in a positive manner however negative you maybe feeling.
Happy training ππ¦
Gorgeous autumnal morning πππ
Full body massage for the special one this morning. Putting my course into practise.
Thank you Sussex Equine Massage Therapy
Busy weekend ππ
Saturday Ashdown Forest Pleasure ride... Stunning scenery, great company and many giggles... π... We didn't see Winnie the Poo or Christoper Robin π»π―π€ππ
But we did see some free roaming cattle... well thats another story... put it this way we went super fast past them π

Sunday RVRC Hunter Trail at Bonfleur Linton.
Class 80cm individual
Our 1st competition and we've not been xc practise since May π... I was hoping for a practise round the other week but weather wasn't on our side with strong gales so not sensible to travel.
So with our good facilities at home I managed to build some diy fences with our in and gates to arena and our track system with slip rails made a diy arena eventing small course.
Anya proved not to be tired after yesterdays 10 miles and was super excited for a run.
Had a super confident clear only slightly sticky at the water. This is normally her forte but bless her she went.
Such a good girly but we were abit on the slow side π... even though I felt I went like the clappers.
We'll get there I've got some idea of speed ground cover and rhythm now I think π€£π
Anya may of been possibly abit reserved with the ground being quite firm to let herself down.
My results were a minute slower than the winner! π
Thanks Julie I managed to zoom in for some photos β€οΈ
π€π€π€ for later... "Every fence is a perfect fence" π€£... except for a dodgy downhill dog leg further on ... lets hope shes listening π€
Best of luck to my good friends Sue & Colin Botley in France right now for the World FEI Driving - Pair horses....
The boys look fabulous
Go team GB π¬π§π
Some new surroundings this week... arena hire, practising our music floorplan & then we ventured out on a 30min hack... some places the ground was seriously rocky and up & down.
I reckon this horse was a mountain goat in a past life! Unbelievable hard feet and goes like a Defender! Great attitude... Just goes π
Mike Nuttall has done a super job with her feet since she was born.
Wanted rain... well I've got rain by the bucket load πβ
Todays no1 job complete, full clip and wash down in the barn. Perfect one stayed dry π... Now going to venture out, think I may still get wet, days not over yet!
Clocking up some miles this week.
Getting ready for our ride at Ashdown Forest I cannot wait π I've also booked a hunter trail for next month too!
Active rides with short bursts of canter. Woodland tracks mainly in trot, myself up out of the saddle in a light seat strengthening my thighs too π some negotiating with branches and going up and down natural man-made BMX humps to get her thinking where her feet are too.
π― Happy and stimulated. Alot to be said for schooling outside the white boards.
Super barefoot and surefooted.... Keep adding to challenges... balance and coordination making her work it out for herself. π§‘
One of my lovely ladies have moved livery from (Grass to DIY stable) after much debate in
"What would be the best livery yard"
As I full well know it can be a complete headache.
Everywhere has pros & cons in which case you have to weigh up.... what is the most important thing to you and your horse?
We all have to compromise somewhere.
What is the most important thing to you and your horse? Where have you had to compromise? Would be really interesting to hear your views please comment below. π
In my opinion it is also the upmost importance to be surrounded by the right people.
So the day came to move Josh, I lent a hand and rode the boy. We decided to go old school no posh lorry but good old fashioned hacking!
I used to hack to local showsπ, hack to the shops π and even go and visit my nan on my pony.
So a mere 5.5 miles of country lanes was going to be nothing for this Welshy.
A positive, perfect way to settle him into his new surroundings π€
and today I had a super ride in the arena with a great selection of poles to use. ππ
Happy pole dancing looking forward to the next session. π
With scortching temperatures this week π making the most of it and getting some
washing done π¦π§Ό
Tuesday tip - Stretching the neck muscles
This is a great exercise to incorporate into your schooling warm up or try it when you're out hacking.
Ask your horse for lateral flexion in his neck to one side, then ride straight, then ask for lateral flexion to the other side, then straight.
Pick a number of steps for each, for example, 10 steps with left lateral flexion - 10 steps straight - 10 steps with right lateral flexion.
As you ask for the bend itβs important that your horse maintains his rhythm, balance, and impulsion. If he struggles reduce the number of steps you ask for.
Try this exercise in walk first once youβre both happy and confident you can try it in trot and even canter.
Lateral flexion in the neck is good for:
β
Core stability and balance
β
Coordination and proprioception
β
Developing straightness and symmetry
β
Forelimb movement and expression
β
Reducing tension and restriction in the neck muscles
β
Muscular strength, control and suppleness
β
Neck joint flexibility

Thankyou Pippa for the video Novice 37a. Little canter blip at the beginning... Yay you want forward mum ha ha "what this forward!" Mediums didn't happen.. but balance improving and forehand lightening. Anya has the ability showing plenty on turf π¨ can rev up then π€£... but kind of shuts down between the white boards. It will come 𧑠Judges comments "Attractive and active horse" did the judge not see the beads of sweat on my brow π€£π ...
πSetting Goalsπ Having something to work towards helps us all keep motivated. I always say "Think about your own personal goals and not to worry about other riders and theirs." Meaning for both of you whether its fitness or setting yourself a challenge. I love the online dressage tests and I have also found recently a style and performance jumping one! π± Something for everyone even In-hand! Brilliant for owners without transport and you don't need an arena either. Here is a small clip of Josh running through an online dressage test with myself (owners turn next time.... π) Just need to zoom in a little! Results have just come in and Josh acheived π 66.5% π I have been working with Josh and he's lovely owner for a while now. Josh being an active minded Welsh needs something to think about regularly π
π€©π€©π€©π€©π€©π€© 2nd time ever SJ and 1st time indoor competition. Such a good girly, just watching video we need to go on a stride my aim to keep her in front of my leg and in an organised rhythm. I'm not prepared to chase jump off times yet. π
Little 4 year old at this stage backed and ridden away in 7-10 days. From settling into new environment, lying across, weight on back and riding away freely. Trotting lovely and forward and gaining balance. I use alot of voice at the beginning of training especially with her as will potentially be a driving pony in the future and voice commands are very important. NB I'd previously worked on ground at owners home before arriving so we had a good relationship. Cheryl Davis Training Mind and Body
Love this video and pony thought i'd share. I worked with this beautiful traditional pony from the very beginning. Firstly I visited owners at home on a weekly basis until she was ready to be backed by myself. Main aim produce a child friendly, un-flapable, confident pony! Future ride & drive β€οΈ Who's having more fun in this session! π Aim of ball β½ βPony learning to stand solid with distraction. β Being confident with things behind and to the side, when in vision. β All preparation before rider
What a day β€οΈπππ₯ππΎ Birthday celebrations for me aka rider and trip out for super ginge horse today (Love's First Blush). We rode our 1st affiliated British Dressage test, on a day ticket at Cobham Manor EC. Entries were good too! π We came 1st with 67.23% β€οΈπͺ... very happy with that. Anya was super willing and happy girly π... head carriage is improving. She felt so good today and a feeling our hard work is paying off. Celebrated with Jackie with a cracking Bacon Tiger Roll... Yum x Thanks Pippa Doran for dressage coaching. We are also modelling our Matchy Dogs and Horses browband. π #barefootdressage
Well today our first outing of the season... Mmmm Anya the quietest chilled out horse at home and at other events became a sweating, fizzy, ginger mare 𧑠For the dresssage section..... I had a good 45mins to warm up... lots of downward transitions... relaxing techniques.... Poof all out of the window! We cantered down the centre line π...and she just managed to contain herself and a pull off medium walk! Some how acheived a score of 34.5 π and a string of 7's With comments of "obedient to canter" thats because all she wanted to do was bloody canter ππ€£π I don't like to see her stressy but I think she only associates Chilham with jumping & galloping ! Ended up on a real positive she absolutely flew xc... I definitely need to go bigger next time. She loved it and was super chilled out once she had a run.... π§‘π No placings today but we have a plan moving forward as I don't like to see her that wound up... So on the look out for some arena SJ, Autumn Hunter trails and bigger tracks then perhaps we'll go back to some grass dressaging. All in the name of FUN! π Thank you to Jackie Taylor Anya's owner and Julie for the help on the ground, really appreciate your time x A little video for proof of finishing x
