Big well done to Riba for achieving nearly 6kg of weight loss since starting with us in August!

Riba was struggling with the mobility in her back legs.

We discussed her diet, made some changes, and used the water treadmill to improve her gait and strengthen her back legs

She certainly has a spring in her step now 😋🐾

Bonfire night tips! 🎧🎆

As well as the regular "turn the TV up" here are some others to help your fireworks fearful dog through the nights

Prepare a den
- dogs like to hide in a small dark place when they're feeling scared. Create a space for them between/behind the sofa, or cover their crate over. Do not try to coax them out, they feel safe here

Stodgy food
-Give them a stodgy meal late afternoon of pasta with fish or turkey, this will release serotonin to aid the feeling of relaxation

Exercise
-Make sure you take them for a good walk before it gets dark and make sure they have emptied their bowels

Routine
-Stick to your normal behaviour as much as possible. Be calm and relaxed. Reassurance can be given!

Distraction
-Use environmental enrichment toys like KONGs to hide treats in and to play with your dog to distract them from the noise. Licky mats, snuffle mats and hide and seek games work well too

Anxiety supplements
- Products like Pet Remedy and ADAPTIL use botanicals and pheromones to promote relaxation

Seek professional advice well before bonfire night next year as noise phobias can be treated and improved with the correct behavioural modification techniques
