Imagine you are deaf.
You can’t hear your smoke alarm or alarm clock.
You can’t hear your text messages.
You miss out on social interactions.
That’s what life is like for deaf people, and it can be very isolating.

A hearing dog can make a big difference.
You can help our charity of the year – Hearing Dogs for Deaf People – help a deaf person leave loneliness behind, by adding a donation via Pennies when you pay by card.
Just a small donation can help deaf people escape isolation and reconnect with life. Thank you.

Deafness is rising in the UK; by 2035, it is estimated that one in five
British people (over 15 million) will experience hearing loss.

🐾🐕 Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a national charity that trains dogs to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds like the smoke alarm, alarm clock and even a baby’s cry.
Their burgundy coats also act as a visual reminder to the public when they are out and about that their partner is deaf.

Donations raised through Pennies when you pay
by card help support Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Just a small
donation can make a big difference!

❗️Heat stress starts as a reversible condition, but if not managed it
will develop to heat stroke, which is extremely dangerous ❗️

If your pet shows any of these signs, they should be moved to a
cool area and offered plenty of water to drink.

This week we bid a sad farewell to our wonderful Carol 💖
After twelve years on the front line at Carrick, and assisting behind the scenes too, Carol has hung up her uniform and taken her well deserved retirement.

Many of you will know Carol well. She has been a pillar of support through difficult times, for clients and staff alike, and we will miss her greatly.

Carol,
A massive THANK YOU for all you have done for us here at Carrick. We wish you the happiest of times with your beautiful family. Enjoy the freedom of not setting an alarm clock... and don't forget we all love your millionaires shortbread 😉💖

🐰🐰Did you know we microchip rabbits too? 🐰🐰

Microchipping rabbits is not a legal requirement but
is strongly recommended. Rabbits are excellent
escape artists and, if they manage to escape the
garden, it can be difficult to identify where they
have come from.

microchipped here:

🐰🐰 Dental Care for Rabbits 🐰🐰

Since you cannot check your rabbit’s teeth at home,
it is important to look out for signs of dental disease.
There are many things that you can look out for that
might indicate that your rabbit has some sort of
dental health issue.

If you notice any of these signs, it is important that
you bring your rabbit to your vet for an oral
assessment as soon as possible. Stopping eating
altogether is an emergency.

🐰🐰Rabbits require vaccinations too! 🐰🐰

Both indoor and outdoor rabbits require vaccinations to keep
them safe from infectious disease. Young rabbits are particularly
vulnerable to serious illnesses, so it’s important to get them
vaccinated early.
Rabbits can be vaccinated from five weeks old and will need
yearly booster vaccinations throughout their life to maintain
immunity.

🐰🐰Today we are discussing neutering for rabbits 🐰🐰

Neutering means removing the reproductive organs; this is
either the ovaries in females (known as spaying) or the
testicles in males (known as castration).

Neutering is a
routine procedure that does not require overnight
hospitalisation, with an average recovery time of 5-10 days.
Find out more about the benefits and risks of netuering your
rabbit here: vetcollection.co.uk/health/should-i-neuter-myrabbit

🐰🐰🐰🐰This week is Rabbit Awareness Week. 🐰🐰🐰🐰

We will be posting snippets of advice daily throughout the week to help with day to day care of our fluffy friends. We are starting the week with Flystrike.

Flystrike happens more often in warm weather, and in
rabbits who have soiled fur (often due to poor diet, obesity
or arthritis).
Throughout the spring and summer rabbits must be
checked twice daily and any soiled fur cleaned. If you find
any sign of fly eggs or maggots you must arrange for your
rabbit to see a vet as soon as possible.

This week is Diabetes Awareness Week - did you know
your furry friends can get diabetes too?

Diabetes causes levels of glucose (sugar) in the blood to be
persistently high. Normally when blood glucose levels increase, the
pancreas releases a hormone called insulin which adds in a number
of ways to lower the blood glucose and prevent it from getting too
high.

information on diabetes in cats, please visit:

We've been busy at all 3 sites over the last few month's with lots of lovely pets who've come to stay with us for the day for various operations.
We love making your pet feel at ease whilst they stay with us and you'll notice from the pictures some of our pets have come with their own blankets or toys ☺️. We always try to recommend to bring something that smells familiar to your pet whilst they are in with us for the day to help them feel comforted in an unfamiliar environment 🥰.
So if your pet is in for an operation soon please feel free to bring a blanket or toy that they are familiar with along with them 💚💙💜❤🧡💛

As May marks Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month we thought we'd share some photos of our lovely nurses in action.
Our nurses love to be on hand to show your pet love, and also to comfort them when they are afraid. Whether they are just in for a consult or whether they are in with us for the day, our nurses are always there making sure they are well loved and looked after.
A lot of what our nurses do is unseen by our clients but they are always around somewhere working hard.
Below are some photos that explain briefly all the roles that our nurses do throughout the day
🐱🐶🐰🩺💊💉
So we just want to say well done to all our Registered Veterinary Nurses/Student Veterinary Nurses and our Patient Care Assistants.
We see how hard you work to maintain gold standard 🎖care and we appreciate you! ❤️‍🩹
