Did you know we offer 5 weeks free pet insurance with Agria for puppies and kittens under the age of 18 months?

Once the vet has seen them for a health check, we can get your 5 weeks cover set up instantly! This will provide cover for both accidents and illness while you shop around for the best policy for you and your pet. Get in touch or ask at your next appointment to find out more!

Our top tips on what to look for in a pet insurance policy:
🐾 Lifetime policy
🐾 Check the small print and any exclusions (especially when changing to a new policy)
🐾 As much cover as you can afford. Ongoing treatment for long term conditions, having multiple issues within the same year and referrals for specialist care can easily reach well into the thousands. It may be worth paying a bit more every month to ensure your pet is covered for whatever they may need.
🐾 Look for reviews to see what other owners' experiences have been

We hope you enjoyed Rabbit Awareness week!

Don't forget we offer a number of services for rabbits to help keep them in tip top shape including:
🐰 Nail clipping
🐰 Dental checks
🐰 Vaccinations
🐰 General check ups
🐰 Diet advice

We also have a monthly care plan which covers vaccinations, flystrike protection, monthly nurse checks and much more! https://rutlandvets.co.uk/vip-plan/

Just like us, rabbits benefit from routine health care and checks! 🐇✨

Regular health checks for your bunnies are essential to keep them happy and healthy.

This includes making sure their teeth and nails are at the right length and shape, regular grooming sessions to keep their fur in top condition, and Don't forget to check them for flystrike, especially during the warmer months! 🩺

It's crucial to inspect your rabbits daily, and during hot weather, twice a day to catch any early signs of flystrike. Ensuring their welfare involves a consistent and thorough approach to their health care. 🌡

It's important to provide your rabbits with the correct nutrition for their health and well-being. 🐇
Research from the University of Edinburgh emphasised the importance of avoiding muesli-style diets for rabbits.

By switching from muesli to nuggets and plenty of feeding hay or grass, you'll help your rabbits thrive and avoid potential health issues like dental disease and obesity. 🐰

Consulting with your vet on the best way to transition your rabbit's diet is a great idea, as they can provide guidance tailored to your specific pet. Gradually shifting from muesli to a wholesome diet, which includes nuggets and feeding hay over a few weeks, will help prevent any digestive upset and ensure a smooth transition. 🌱

Remember to always provide fresh water and leafy greens for your rabbits to munch on throughout the day. 🌿 Your buns will thank you for providing them with the best possible diet to keep them happy and healthy! 🐰

With the current hot weather it is important to remember to keep your pets safe in the heat! 🐱🐰🐶

☀️ Ensure they have access to plenty of fresh water and lots of shade - don’t forget rabbits and guinea pigs too!
☀️ Avoid vigorous exercise such as chasing a ball or taking your dog out for a run or bike ride.
☀️ Limit time spent outside, try and keep cats indoors during the hottest part of the day.
☀️ Do not leave pets in your car, even with a window open. Even short periods of time spent in a hot car puts them at serious risk of heatstroke.
☀️ Walk your dog when it’s cooler, early morning or late evening. Remember to test the pavement with your hand first.
☀️ Give your pet damp towels to lie on, freeze some treats or set up a paddling pool in your garden!

Temperatures over 20°C can put pets at risk of heatstroke. Please remember pets that are very young or old, overweight or those that have difficulties breathing are at an increased risk in the heat. 🌡

Please take care and watch out for signs of difficulty breathing, excessive drooling, pacing, vomiting or diarrhoea, weakness or collapse. Call us with any concerns!
