WORKSHOP
Introduction To Gundog Training
Saturday 7th September 2024

Ever wondered about gundog training ? It can be a very rewarding sport and you never have to work your dog in the shooting field to be involved (although many go on to do just that once they gain the knowledge).

This workshop is aimed at people with a gundog breed who would like to bring their dog and find out about gundog training, without the pressure of joining classes.
It’s really about enjoying time with your dog, encouraging your dogs natural abilities and teaching you to work with them to improve obedience, concentration, communication and confidence; so you and your dog become team. This workshop will be in an enclosed paddock.

Date: Saturday 7th September 2024
Time: 10am till 1pm (with a short break at some point for refreshments and a little down time for your dog).
Venue: YO42 1TX
Small group with only 6 places.
A non refundable payment secures a place.
Cost: £55.

For more details/queries or to book a place please contact Beverley on 07715 475445.

Another impromptu water workshop this morning. Improving steadiness, nominated retrieves, retrieving to hand without dropping and shaking. Dry land launcher retrieves mixed in to add to the excitement and testing the dogs ability to switch their focus. We finished on short launcher retrieves as a distraction with a young Labrador who retrieves well from water but is only 10 months and we didn’t want to jump him (not until he has his first birthday); the others had to sit steady whilst watching, with the temptation of both the launcher and of a water retrieve that was thrown and waiting for them. Well done a great morning 👏 .
P.S. Next Tuesday is the last of the summer workshops. As many have been asking, I will be putting the new list of specific topic workshops on soon, so book early to ensure a place. 🙂

The weather was kind to us yesterday and not too hot for the beginner scurry training and competitions. Three competitions comprising of a judged, a speed and an up and over in the retrieve lane. The judged was a single mark over a jump into a box with a bolt hole in one corner; which required the dog to be steady until sent, retrieve in a straight line over the jump there and back without using the bolt hole and finishing with a clean delivery to hand. It was close at the finish with run offs for the top three positions. The speed was a marked retrieve from water (a splash pool) and a push back for a memory. The up and over had four jumps with cover to negotiate. Thank you to all 14 who competed, cheering each other on throughout the day. Congratulations to the award winners. A huge thank you goes to Deb Tate UpNorthPhotography for the amazing photographs once again. Thanks to Chris your judge who could not be bribed 😂😂😂and not forgetting our course builder and chucker for the day paw Sam. Looking forward to September and the finale, I think the points league championship will be a close run finish.

Super class session last night. As it was a little warm at the start we did some static steadiness to shot and thrown dummies (videos in comments). As it cooled we had some long blind retrieves over the wall into wooded cover and finished with some hunting in pairs in the rabbit 🐇 pen testing the shop whistles; working against distractions and sending back for retrieves after leaving and hunting on. Labradors doing their thing and running through steady spaniels for their retrieve. A really enjoyable, calm and motivating session. Congratulations all, the dogs are really coming on.

Another busy week with a requested water workshop added in on Wednesday morning. A mixed ability group, from very good swimmers that worked on delivery, straight lines and jumping obstacles before and after retrieving from water; to dogs that did not swim gaining confidence and with the right incentive achieved their first swimming retrieve 💪. In addition we did nominated retrieving from water and dry land for the water crazy in the group, as they can find this challenging as dry land can be very boring after the joy of swimming 😂. A Great session Well done everyone.
P.s. Another water workshop has been added on Tuesday 6th August 2024, there are spaces available.
10am till 1pm
YO42 1TX
Cost £55.
Please contact Beverley on 07715 475445 if interested.

Another full workshop today working on steadiness. Many scenarios ( more to do ), so the next steadiness workshop including shot will be a full day, watch out for the adverts. Just a couple of pics. Great session with lots of improvements, especially with the whistle stops when the dogs were running out at speed.

Great day of competition yesterday. All the scores were very close. A nice mixture of tests. Test 1 a mark into water (don’t shake 🫨) then a dry land blind catching a few out (dogs just loved the water 💦).

All handlers and dogs excelled with the other three tests; Test 2 a woodland mark and blind, Test 3 over the straw wall for a blind into cover then a mark in the opposite direction and Test 4 the long up hill mark and then a blind, with many perfect and near perfect scores. Well done everyone. Thanks to Ian and David our judges. To Katie, Tracey and Sam as always for their help and some additional phone pics and to Deb for some cracking photographs. Looking forward to the next one on August 18.

Another great day of competitions - Beginner/novice training then scurries, judged, timed and up and over. Dogs and humans had a great time. Congratulations goes to the award winners (all the training is paying off), but a huge well done to everyone who entered and gained the experience 💪 and to Carole and Jack who attended (by accident as she’s in the retrieve challenge comps), but used it as a useful training opportunity, entering but not for competition and is going to do it again as training in the future (on purpose 😂😂). I managed to get photos of a few of you, I know not all of you (sorry) will defo try to get you ALL next time 🙂

The first camp of the year is over. It’s been an amazing weekend of training with lots of fun, food, friends old and new, lots of exercises with all dogs and handlers upping their game, with some taking giant steps forwards 💪. We now have plans for areas of training that might need a bit of tweaking too, there will always be room for improvements 😂. A big thank you to all who attended, everyone mucked in with some jobs, Katie the catering queen we have all never had such regular meals the menus were out of this world for camping, Ian who brought venison and helped us ALL with all sorts, dogs, dummies, windbreaks and especially washing up 😂Deb upnorthphotography for her usual stunning pictures ( you will definitely know which are hers😂) and paw Sam who as always has done a grand job, especially on our new/old summer house kitchen/diner that has seen a few bottles of Prosecco, red wine, many Irish coffees and lots of laughter this weekend. Obviously training is our job and work to us, but you have all made this an enjoyable experience and we haven’t laughed so much and so hard for a long time. It’s great to wind down and chill out after the training sessions. Oops almost forgot, thanks also goes to Tony for supplying his boom box as you can’t beat a bit of music. Will add a few videos in comments too.
Looking forward to the 30/31 August 1st September 2024 as requested by popular demand the second and last camp for 2024.
I will advertise it later. Thanks again.

Well I haven’t taken many pictures lately (must get better and remember to do it). However, today we couldn’t miss these. The amazing and very kind and generous cake maker Sue strikes again and has made ‘Paw Sam’ 😂 a wonderful chocolate birthday cake 🎂, with additional coffee and Victoria sponge cakes 🍰 🍰🍰for the rest of the gang at training class. She definitely spoils us (again)😁.

Attention long post

SUMMER WORKSHOPS
Open to all - you do not have to attend our classes. Can be a great introduction to group sessions as these workshop groups are small.

Proving to be very popular, with up to six places only available for each workshop group, time can be used to break down information and exercises- no two dogs are the same!
We often hear that I didn't know what to do next when this happened. There are many ways to train a thing. The more methods, exercises and training experience you gain; will give you the knowledge and confidence to recognise when something isn't going quite right and more importantly what to do about it.

For the more experienced dogs and handlers the workshop set ups & scenarios help to motivate and push you towards your training goals.

Over the next few weeks there will be various training workshops

Grand weather today for the first of our retrieve challenges. It was definitely a beautiful place to be, the sun was out and the birds were singing; everyone sat and chilled on the bank whilst we added up the scores. The four tests included marks, blinds, varied ground and water (keeping the dogs cool). All dogs performed well. Points lost 😠 can be disappointing, but use that knowledge 💪 and put it in your plans for training. Congratulations to the award winners. Huge thanks to our additional judges Ian and David, dummy chuckers Katie, Tracey and Sam. A few more pics and a bit of video to follow when we get them off paw Sam😆. Looking forward to the rest of the season from June onwards🙂(places are available call 07715 475445 to book).

Beginner scurry day today - well what can we say about the day cracking weather with a cracking crowd of folk, After the training rounds with lots of training tips and guidance a rest for the dogs was in order with a quick lunch and cake for the humans too. Soon after that the 3 competitions judged/speed/up & over were fought over with the judged scores being very close, we had run offs for 2nd and 3rd with only 1/2 a point splitting the award winners.
In the speed competition the clear winner was Dave with Ember and in the up and over Jane and Lyra won the day with another speedy time. Hope I have got everyone on pics sorry if not, I’ve put on some pics people have sent too. If you have a pic of your dog with rosettes feel free to put them in comments. Great start to the summer league. Keep up with the homework memories and steadiness 😉.Well done everyone. Huge thanks to Chris for judging and paw Sam (YTS lad) for helping me setting up chucking and new skill Videoing with his new phone 😂 🙈
