BLACK ISLE SHOW NEXT WEEK:
We will be closing at 12 noon on Wed, 31 July and closed all day on Thurs, 01 August. Normal hours will resume again on Fri, 02 August at 0900 hrs.

Customers that are not attending the Show but would usually visit the Store on a Wednesday or Thursday, we apologize for any inconvenience caused. To those of you who will be at the Show, we will be in the Discovery building again this year with our alpacas so if you have a few minutes spare, please pop in and find us.

Here is a TopSpec Topical Tip which may be of interest to you...

A surprising number of calls to the TopSpec Multiple-Award-Winning Helpline over the last few weeks have been from horseowners saying their horse's coat looks bleached, pale or 'wishy-washy' and asking if nutrition can help.

A good balanced diet, with sufficient high-quality protein, adequate Omega-3 oil and ample fibre will help to keep a horse's coat in good condition. And where sunlight has bleached e.g. a black coat with amber tips then reducing exposure by, for example turning out in a pale cotton sheet or lightweight rug will be helpful.

But if your horse is healthy and correctly managed to minimise bleaching and still has a pale coat, especially chestnuts but also bays and blacks, there is a specific nutrient that usually helps to deepen and darken coat colour and even produce dapples. This is a trace-element called copper, which is an important constituent of the enzyme tyrosinase, which itself controls melanin production from tyrosine (an amino acid). The more melanin is produced the deeper and darker the coat will become. All TopSpec Feed Balancers are rich in copper from at least two sources and the highest levels can be found in TopSpec Comprehensive Feed Balancer, TopSpec Joint Feed Balancer, TopSpec Performance Lite Feed Balancer, TopSpec Lite Feed Balancer and TopSpec AntiLam Forage Balancer.

As copper has many, important roles to play in your horse's body the colour of his coat will give you an indication of the adequacy of copper in his diet for the benefit of his health. It is critical that you do not try and simply add e.g. copper sulphate to your horse's diet as copper must be fed in correct proportions with zinc and manganese to avoid reducing their availability to your horse. Other nutritional relationships also really do mean that it is safest to consult an experienced equine nutritionist on this subject.

Hi All,

We would just like to thank everyone that visited us at the B-I Show this week. We had a brilliant time meeting new faces as well as catching up with our lovely loyal customers. It was good to meet you all.

Our little ladies coped really well with the attention. Amber has stopped humming now she's back in her paddock, Freckles, as always, lapped up the attention and as for our little fluff ball Dora? Didn't she do well?! We don't have any more events planned for this season but next time little Dora is out and about, you most likely won't recognise her as she will have grown so much...

Finally, we would like to thank everyone who purchased our wee knitted hats, keyrings and micro handbags. The money we raised for the RNLI and PDSA amounts to £120 so each charity will receive £60. Once again, thank you so much for your generosity and kindness. Best wishes to you all. 😉
