Small private family run stud. Breeding a couple of high quality modern sport horses every year.

"I have been involved with horses from a very early age and have ridden and competed throughout my teenage years. My real interest and passion for breeding developed after qualifying as vet from the Royal Veterinary College in 2006. After developing skills in the field of equine reproduction and artificial insemination, I found myself increasingly drawn into the subject of horse breeding. Working

with a variety of client, I had a fantastic opportunity to see and compare the offspring produced by a wide variety of stallions on an even wider variety of mares. It fascinated me to learn more about bloodlines and studbooks, which sparked a particular interest in the KWPN and Hanoverian breeding. My veterinary background allowed me to bring to the table a keen eye for conformation and an ever expanding knowledge of equine athletes in all three disciplines, all of which led me to focus on my own breeding enterprise. My aim is to breed high quality modern sport horses that have the temperament, rideability and soundness to perform in there discipline. My veterinary knowledge and passion drive my ambition and attention to detail. All the reproductive work and care of the mares and foals is done by myself. It is for this reason that I only breed a small number of foals every year. I believe this individual care coupled with a natural environment to grow up in allows my foals the best possible start in life. Right from conception the mares are managed to ensure the nutrition is correct throughout pregnancy and lactation. I believe this is key to ensure the correct development of the foal and its future soundness. I like our mares and foals to graze and live out as much as possible. I am fortunate that my home is also a working dairy farm, giving me wonderful grassland management and the ability to produce our own high quality haylage. All my foals are well handled right from birth and I aim to get them halter broken and leading within the first week. I am particularly critical about foot balance and limb development in our foals. All foals have their feet regularly trimmed from 2 weeks old and any issue addressed early. Proper management is imperative to ensure sound development of the foals limbs and therefore future soundness in adulthood. When choosing a mating for one of my graded mares I concentrate closely on bloodlines. I perform a detailed matching of conformation/strengths and gaits to best compliment my mares. I follow closely the stallions shows and performance test results from the continent to ensure I am abreast of all the latest breeding news and the upcoming stars! This means that I don’t just follow fashion and I do use some young upcoming stallions. My foals are unique and in some cases may only be one of a few available in the UK with that bloodline!

So we finally have a name Callisto King aka Oreo to his friends (kids named him 🤣)
He is in the large field with his mama now going from strength to strength.

Exciting start of new chapter for our 3 youngsters.
We moved them next door to our friends Geoff Billington Show Jumper so I can do some individual handling, get them used to wash box, arena, horse walker etc.
They were amazing as we lead them down the road and into these stables having spent the winter relatively unhandled.

They winter loose as a group in a barn next to all our young heifers.

It certainly helps to desensitise to livestock, load noises and tractors/heavy machinery.

So sad to share that we have decided to withdraw our wonderful Elara from Mondays Futurity Evaluation.
Unfortunately the last few weeks hard ground has left her with bruised soles and she is just not comfortable.
She has been an absolute star stepping up to being bitted and trailer training but we feel it's an unfair to ask her to perform with sore feet.
So her debut has been deferred until next year!

Our beautiful Elara aka Elli will be attending the British Breeding Futurity at Reaseheath.
This will be the first time I have ever taken a 2 yro and her first time out.... so there are lots of life lessons for her to learn in the next few weeks!
Fingers crossed she'll take it all in her stride.

I am listening to you Mum!....
We have been making some big decisions here at Coole Meadows for our homebred Deiya
We've decided to put her back under saddle rather than have another foal.

On earlier scans this year Deiya was found to have an Anovulatory Haemorrhagic follicle (AHF)...these are normal occurrence but a real pain at upsetting the breeding year. Hers was the persistent form that didn't seem to be forming luteal tissue.....meaning it won't respond to an injection to bring into season.
This coupled with her accident meant I felt the god's were telling me not to put her in foal!!!

So she is back with out trusted friend James Read ...so watch this space for ridden updates!!

Clear at 65cm. She is gaining confidence going out and learning what's required! She's going to have a break for a few weeks and bit of time in the field to chill out and process all ages learnt!!

To say I am proud of this mare is an understatement....💖 Its important to understand.... we are not looking for the finished article....babies take time to develop strength and coordination, knowledge what's being asked and ability to cope with different situations. But this mare has a big heart she is willing and trainable ....she has all the makings of a great show jumper!

Here is Elli enjoying some free time in the indoor. These last couple of weeks have been all about getting used to being stabled individually and getting used to being able to leave her pals and be alone.....big lesson when you have grown up and never been apart from the other youngsters.
