Today is a sad day at Jubilee as we say goodbye to Charlotte as she moves on to her exciting new role!

I'm sure she will be a familiar face to most of you, as she has been with us for three and a half years and has been a key member of both the farm and small animal sides of the practice.

We wish Charlotte all the best for the future and she will be greatly missed by everyone at JVC!

It was with great sadness that the practice learned of the passing of Bryan Muskett “BM” on Thursday.
Bryan qualified from Edinburgh Vet School in 1970 and worked for Max Boyce in Bangor. He joined Howard Whelan in Newtownards in 1972. Along with Raymond Thompson, they formed Whelan Muskett and Thompson in 1977.
Always the forward thinker, Bryan was instrumental in moving the practice to Jubilee Road in 1987, and the practice became known as Jubilee Veterinary Centre. They built one of the first purpose-built Vet practices in NI.
Bryan worked day and night to build the practice up. Bryan was initially a farm Vet who later developed an interest in small animals, and he became the small animal partner.
Bryan was innovative and always looked to improve the provision of animal care by investing in new technology. Bryan was an extremely talented surgeon and skilled communicator with clients. He was hugely respected by staff and clients alike, and earned enormous loyalty from both.
Bryan retired as a partner in 2011 but continued to work part time until Covid. He worked at Jubilee for 48 years and was in practice for 50 years. Bryan’s impact on JVC cannot be underestimated. Outside of work Bryan’s interests revolved around animals, sport and his family.
Our condolences go out to Sheena, Kerry, Sarah and Grant at this time.

❗️ Part Time TB clerks needed! ❗️

Immediate starts available

We currently have positions available for TB clerks to assist vets with TB testing.

Own vehicle, good grasp of numbers and experience on farms would be an advantage.

LUNGWORM

This parasite has become more prevalent in the past week due to the weather and grazing season.

Lungworm can cause rapid death with heavy infestations. If your cattle are showing symptoms of lungworm or pneumonia be mindful of this and talk to one of our vets for advice.

It is important to treat lungworm appropriately with a slow killing product such as those including Levamisole. Faster killing products may cause anaphylaxis and death.

Contact us today to discuss appropriate options for your herd.

Today is Courtney’s last working day before she finishes for her wedding, and we couldn’t be more excited for her 🥰

She’ll be easy to spot around the practice today, she’s the one wearing L plates 😆

☀️Heat Stress ☀️

Not something we often have to battle with here in NI. But with temperatures being maintained above 20°C both day and night some livestock are starting to suffer.

Know the signs -
- Panting and increased respiratory rate
- Reduced feed intake
- Reduced rumination
- Reduced milk yield
- Increased SCC
- Increased re**al temperature

Reduce the risk -
- Provide shaded areas from the sun
- Fans indoors
- Plenty of fresh water
- Water sprays or sprinklers where possible
- Clip hair off backs
- Reduce walking distances (eg. Field to parlour)

Stress free disbudding for the calf, the vet and the farmer 👌

Disbudding calves under sedation, with local anaesthesia and anti-inflammatories has become more popular in recent years with a significant reduction in stress and minimal impact on daily live weight gain.
