Dog Friendly is run by Dave and Jenny Olley. We have been training in and around the York and Selby Our classes and courses are only suitable for sociable dogs.

We have been training in and around the York and Selby area, since setting up dog friendly in 1999. Training available - puppy and foundation classes for adolescent and adult dogs, who can then continue their training in either our activity or working trials classes. Courses from half day to weeks courses covering working trials, play, gundog activities, tracking and assorted dog activities. One t

o ones, if times of classes don’t suit or if you’d like to work on something specific. We believe dog training can and must be fun for learning to take place. Training in the outdoors in our beautiful 10 acre training ground, located between York and Selby, means you are working in a realistic environment, which will enhance and proof your dog’s training. A natural environment for your dog, so they feel at ease, which aids learning. We are experienced in both pet training and high level competition. At dog friendly we use positive methods, food and play, we have developed our methods over a life time of dog training, by observing dogs. We work with dogs evaluating their emotions to enhance their learning experience. Our training improves relationship and builds motivation, leading to a responsive dog who wants to be with you. We are both experienced working trials, competitors, trainers and kennel club judges. Dave won both the TD and the PD tickets at the working trials kennel club championships with his dog WT CH Little Raymond, Ray and WT CH Stardell Alula qualified many times to go to the championship, they also qualified TDex & PDex many times. Jenny has trained qualified 2 dogs to Tdex level also working PD championship with one. During our years of owning, training, working and competing with dogs we have entered working trials, competitive obedience, agility, flyball and scurries.

Next Sunday 9th June, we have Gundog-fundog, suitable for dogs who love retrieving.

Dogs need to be sociable in a group with people and dogs to attend our sessions.

Jumps and obstacles to build confidence, skills, body awareness and motivation.
Also working on distance control and handler skills.
In addition to being sociable, dogs need to be a year or older, physically fit and of correct weight.

Do you have a sociable dog? At Dog Friendly Training, near Bubwith (between York & Selby) we offer training sessions - Jump 4 Joy, Gundog fundog, Dog activity sessions and Play, Track, Train.

Jump 4 Joy, having fun, building confidence and skills over jumps and obstacles. Sundays, June 2nd & July 14th, 9.30am to 11.30am £20 per session. Dogs will be worked off lead.

Gundog-Fundog - gundog style activities for pet dogs, dogs need to love retrieving and have a good recall. Sundays 9th June & 21st July, 9.30am to 12noon. £25.00 per session.

Dog Activity sessions - learning new activities, tracking, retrieving, obstacles, play, tricks and much more. Sundays 2nd June & 14th July 12.30pm to 2.30pm. £25.00 per session.

Play, Track, Train - enhancing dog and owner play, tracking and puzzle solving training. Thursdays 27th June & 25th July, 9.30am to 12.00noon.

Our first introduction to Working Trials sessions will take place on Sunday 19th May. They will take place monthly to allow all teams to move forward, with things to practice in between.
The first session will include starting tracking, sendaway, search and retrieve and jumping (for dogs who are old enough).
These sessions are to encourage new teams to try the fun and competitive sport of working trials.
The session will run from 9.30am to 11.30am cost £25.00
Open to sociable dogs, who haven't started training for trials yet, great if your already doing another sport. Dogs need to be over 6 months and no older than 7 years.
Our outdoor training ground is situated near Bubwith, between York and Selby.
Suitable for most breeds, see video in comments for an insight into working trials

Working trials is a fabulous kennel club dog sport, suitable for most dog breeds. This video shows dogs training the CD (companion dog) stake, which is an entry level. We will soon be offering introduction to working trials sessions at our training ground in Yorkshire.

Wanting to teach your dog to track, but unable to find anyone to help locally? Our online starter tracking course maybe the solution for you.
Learning takes place through four modules emailed to you, with links to the training videos in the private facebook group. You work through the practical side, at your own pace, you don’t need a helper or tracklayer for this, our system has been developed for you to do all the work on your own.
You can upload videos for feedback or ask questions in the group, as you go along your tracking journey. Access to the group and tutors last for 6 months.

Tracking is a brilliant activity where you and your dog work as a team.
Suitable for all ages and breeds/type of dog.
Your dog will learn to track ground that has been walked on following human scent and crushed vegetation, finding articles that have been laid by the tracklayer.

Our Story

Dog Friendly is run by Dave Olley (Dip CABT) and Jenny Olley (Dip CABT), who are both experienced dog trainers and behavioural consultants. Whether you are a new owners starting out with your first puppy, or a lifetime dog owner who would like to enter competition, we can offer training for you.

We offer weekly classes, day courses, weeks courses and online training. One to one training, available for working trials competition. Competition classes and courses, held at various locations, to expand the dogs training and prepare dog and handler for competition.
