Lets talk handstripping. Today I got to handstrip this smart Fox Terrier. As you can see from the picture below it's quite a transformation.

What is handstripping?

Simply put, handstripping is removing the dead old hair on the coat to encourage new hair to grow. To do this the groomer hand plucks or uses stripping knives.

Why handstrip?

In the case of Fox Terriers they have wire coats. By handstripping a Fox Terrier, I'm making sure the new hair that grows, is wiry and full of texture. It gives a thinner natural, tidy look and keeps the dog looking smart to breed standard.

Does Handstripping hurt the dogs?

If done properly by a professional who knows what they are doing and which hair to pluck it shouldn't be hurt the dog at all.

Can all dogs be handstripped?

No. The breeds of dogs that can be stripped tend to be Terriers with Wiry coats also some Hounds, Gundogs and Sporting breeds can also be handstripped.
