Another rescue - this time the BEAUTIFUL Medusa! 😍

Medusa hasn't had the greatest start in life, coming from the RSPCA to her new forever home.

Her owner hadn't had a dog for quite sometime - so wanted to check he had the basics in place. We've covered some basic house rules, did some boundary work around doors and worked a bit on her loose lead walking and play.

Check out the ears on this little cutie! 😍

Ted's owners got in touch, having adopted him, post his rescue him from a puppy farm...😢 He's a little nervous, but settling in well! We had a chat whilst covering some basic theory before starting the practical aspects. We took him out and showed both him, and his owners some lead work, whilst giving them the tools to help them build his neutrality around other dogs.

We're very much looking forward to seeing how this guy gets on in the near future! 💪

So we met the amazing Meena in our last post! 😍 What made this clients case slightly more interesting, was that she was slightly incapacitated..... 😬 So a spinning, whining, barking, pulling, lunging dog was just not an option!

So what does "Heel" mean to the dog? To me- it means you follow my left leg, it then doesn't matter where my left leg is - you follow it. In this case, you follow it whilst I'm on the mobility scooter! 😂 This was great fun to teach.

😍😍😍😍 The amazing Meena!! Meena has come sooo far since we started working together. She couldn't cope even leaving the house! 😪 She'd bark and whine, spin and pull. It wasn't a good experience for anyone. But thanks to the amazing work and, most importantly, 100% commitment put in by her owner, here she is!! Enjoying a quick drink with Mum in the Pub! 😁😁 Absolutely amazing work from them both!! 👏👏👏

Meet Ollie! 😍 One of our new starters this week. Ollie seems to think that a certain chair in the room is his! (It's definitely not - I'm 100% he didn't put his paw in his pocket and buy it 🤔) He also likes to let his owners know his displeasure when they have the audacity to attempt to sit there! 😳 So we made a start on some rules and boundaries, and began to readdress the balance within the household.

Poor little Hoya was all tuckered out by the end of our session the other day! (😆) She has a bit of an issue barking at the door and jumping all over her humans! 😬 So we made a start on conditioning the door as a "Go to bed" trigger. 👌

Stella, bless her, isn’t the greatest fan of the car! 😬 Which makes it quite awkward when her owners are trying to take her somewhere nice! 😬 So we brought the fun to her! 😎 Now she’s getting in and out of the car like a champ and beginning to enjoy going on her adventures.

The gorgeous Ava and Oreo absolutely smashed it yesterday! 🙌🙌 From a pair that couldn’t even leave the house without ALLL the barking, unable to walk past another dog without losing their minds…. Here they are, happily trotting past another dog on their way to a training session in the pub! 🍻 Great owners, putting in great work. 😁

Meet Ruby! 😍 This sweet little Cockapoo has got a few issues going on in the house, so her owners got in touch.

So we’re not very good at social media….. 😬 (We’d much rather stick to our skill set and train dogs! 🤣) but we have been a bit quiet on here recently, so thought it time for an update!

This is looking to be a great local event in Langham on Saturday and Sunday Rutland Polo Club! We are also proud to announce that we will also be there on the Sunday! 🤗 We have a FUN dog show planned at 1100 and will then be there for the remainder of the day, offering FREE 15min 1-2-1’s.

“Westminster must listen to farmers, not armchair experts”

"… Modern Wales has a huge problem with dog attacks. The Telegraph has reported that Welsh sheep farmers suffer four times more attacks and shoot three times more dogs than their counterparts in the rest of the UK.

Why is there such a huge problem in Wales? Last year, 100 farmers, including Gareth Wyn Jones, suggested it was because the country banned the training of dogs with e-collars in 2010. They pointed to the large volume of research showing these collars are very effective at making dogs wary of approaching sheep. That is important because dogs are forever escaping from their owners.

In Scotland, they recently raised the fine for owners who do not keep their dogs on leads to £40,000 and that has not solved the problem. Why? Because the biggest problem is training the dogs, not the owners.

The National Sheep Association says bans on e-collar training are “utterly irresponsible”, so guess what the environment department in England has just promised to do? Ban them as well.

Hundreds of thousands of responsible owners use these devices to train their dogs because they do not want farmers shooting them. They believe a short startle is far better than being shot. And, for the record, the shock from e-collars is 3,000 times less powerful than some livestock fences.

Yet the most shocking thing about this matter is that Thérèse Coffey, the Environment Secretary behind this latest attempt to ban e-collar training, used one on her own dog. She has some explaining to do.

Westminster has to stop ignoring farmers. We are custodians - practical people who have managed the balance of nature over the centuries. Both sides of my family have been farming the Welsh Marches since the time of Charles I. It is in our DNA.

We respect the role of all species, yet the armchair experts of London cannot stop interfering. They lack knowledge, they lack science, and they are creating impossible pressures on country people and animals."

It is with a heavy heart that I write this post, but the attached video is more important than many of you will ever realise. Those that don’t realise the importance of this video are the lucky ones.

Before you read on and watch it- remember that the cute, fluffy thing sleeping on your sofa isn’t a fur baby. It’s actually an opportunistic, domesticated, predator. It has 42 teeth capable of crushing bone…..

Today, a dog that we have helped train, decided that chasing and killing two wild animals heading towards the A1, wasn’t a good decision. 2 animals lives were definitely saved, possibly 3- and a potentially catastrophic incident on the A1 was averted…..

The proposed e-collar ban.

If you have trained with me, you know how I work. For those that haven’t, I work primarily with a LIMA (least intrusive, minimally aversive) approach. I think I have suggested using E-collars to three people. Just three. Not every dog needs one. It’s not “lazy training” it’s actually bloody hard work!! Today, one of those dogs made good decisions having been correctly trained and conditioned to the E-Collar. At least 2 lives were saved. Potentially more. Let that sink in.

Without an E-collar, the dog in question would have lived it’s life on a long line. This particular dog would have had no chance of a life off lead, even after six months of the owner putting in the work daily using positive reinforcement. That doesn’t seem much like “animal welfare” to me. Leads are not the answer. They can be dropped, break, rip through your hand. Actually TRAINING the dog - that’s the answer.

I implore you- watch the video. Educate yourself before you jump to conclusions and hop on the bandwagon. Send the email. It’ll take 60 seconds to copy and paste from the comments below. You will be helping our rural community. Our farmers and their livestock. Your neighbours. Their animals.

Your current dog may be perfect. But what about your next one? What about your neighbours’? What about the deaf dogs, the cats in your road, the sheep, the deer, the hares & rabbits we love to see in the fields? This isn’t about dog welfare, this is about ALL animal welfare…… Please send the email. Don’t be complicit in an act that guarantees more dogs will be put down for animal aggression (they’re just following their genetics!!) or be shot (legally!!!) by a farmer…..

Who remembers Starsky? This cute little guy had a bit of an issue with barking at the door when the bell rang. Instead of correcting or suppressing it, we made the bell a trigger for bedtime. Allowing his owner to get to the door and do what she needs to. Go check it out on our IG page!

Meet Stanley and Ollie 😍 Their owners contacted us as Stanley (left) was having a few issues with getting in the car & jumping up at people. Ollie, his brother decided that training looked great fun and just came along for the ride!! 😂

We showed them a technique to get him in the car that he took too quickly, did some lead work with him and spoke through some boundary rules that will help with the jumping.

It's been a busy few weeks here at Greendog - so let's introduce you to a few new trainees over the next few days.

1st up we have Maggie, a gorgeous, albeit slightly nervous, Cockapoo with a bit of a penchant for retrieving (stealing 🫣 ) things she shouldn't and some guarding issues around her owners when the Grandkids are around 😬. We spoke a bit about management, boundaries and creating an environment that she's comfortable in. Her owners have taken really well to the training plan and their hardworking is really showing!

I'd like to introduce you all to Bodhi (and his sister, Pops, in the background!😂) Bodhi is an English Setter, all the way from Turkey🇹🇷! He's not had the greatest start in life, but he's in a much better place now. Unfortunately, all though now in a better place, he's having a little difficulty settling into his new routine and environment (which is to be expected).

After a good chat about his background and some K9 theory, we set to work. We did some work in the house to help him settle and then moved outside and taught him what a lead meant, and how he was expected to behave whilst on a walk. We had a great session and set some great foundations for him.

Meet Frank! A very excitable, super sweet, dachshund x black lab all the way from Cyprus🇨🇾!! The problem is that Frank's a little bit anti-social.... which causes some issues when his owners want a nice day out. 😬

So we had a chat about how we can change his mindset (he's doesn't need to like other dogs, but he does need to be able to tolerate them!), we put some more obedience in to give him a job to concentrate on, played some games around other dogs and explained about how his handler's body language affects him. We had a great session and can't wait to see this happy little guy again soon.

Meet Starsky 😍 He's such a little dude!! Unfortunately, he has also decided that he now runs the place........ Barking at the door, letting his owners know his absolute displeasure at being left behind, taking over which ever bit of furniture takes his fancy. 🤦‍♂️

So we discussed the existing rules and boundaries within the house, changed the area where he sleeps and begun the steps to refocus him when the doorbell rings. We're looking forward to seeing his progress in a couple of weeks!!

Who remembers Dexter? The HUUUGGEEE GSDxRetriever? Well, one of Dexter's issues was the car...... he HATED it!! Well I watched on in disbelief as his owners set the car up, came back in, then one picked him up by his chest the other got the back legs and then had to carry him from the house to the car! 🤯

Well it's only been a few days....but look at the difference!! Happiliy getting in the car, no carrying required! 😁 Fantastic work, by a very committed owner! 👏🙌 Well done!! Onwards now to car journeys and the whole world opening upto them!

Meet Dexter! This super sweet boy doesn’t want to get in the car, isn’t a fan of other dogs and isn’t particularly impressed when you tell him to come back! 🫣

We spoke through some theory with his owner, played some games around the car and put in a training pathway which will result in him jumping at the chance to get in. We touched on recall and some management techniques around other dogs.

Meet Heidi - this super sweet GSD was having a few problems in the house and on the lead. Barking at visitors, struggling to settle and generally trying to rule the roost! 🙈

So we had a chat about K9 learning behaviours, boundaries, safe spaces, scent work and walking nicely outside.

She's coming on great with the effort that her owners are putting in and we're very excited to see her again soon.

Meet Trudeau, a VERY excitable black Lab from working lines! She's such a sweetie..... but goes from 0-100 in 0.5 secs! 😳 Jumping at visitor's, pulling on the lead.... the list goes on.

So we had a chat about rules and boundaries, the importance of a solid bed command, how to deal with visitors and some loose lead walking.
