⭐TRICEPS BRACHII MUSCLE⭐
The triceps muscle is categorised into two separate parts the Long Head and the Lateral and Medial Head.
Origin:
- Long head: Caudal portion of the scapula.
- Lateral and Medial heads: Shaft of the humerus (lateral and medial aspects, respectively).
Insertion: Olecranon, proteced by the tricipital bursa against the bone, and subcutaneous bursa against the skin.
Action: Extends and stabilizes the elbow.
The most common injuries to this muscle are myofascial tears on the midbelly of the muscle, the tear occurs in the fascia which coats the muscle and allows it to move underneath the skin.
Dysfunctin:
- Holding a front leg bent while at rest.
- Uneven wear on the hoof.
- Uneven stride or lameness.
- Reduction in range of motion.
