The Blackbird ❤

This little bird is the most common breeding bird in Britain, with a population of around 6 million pairs.

The blackbird is adaptable and equally at home in a town park or suburban garden as it is in a remote Welsh wood and the majority of blackbirds seldom move any distance from where they were hatched.

It takes a pair of blackbirds between 11 and 14 days to make a nest and most of the work is done by the female.

Blackbirds hop along the ground in search for food and like to eat a range of insects, worms and berries.

Goldfinches are easily recognisable due to their individual colourings and almost tropical appearance. 🐦

They often search for food in flocks and have even been seen in groups of around 100 birds.

Here are a few facts about these beautiful little birds:

🐦 Size: 12cm head to tail
🐦 Weight: 14 – 17g
🐦 Wingspan: 21 – 25cm
🐦 Song: Pleasant “twitter” call

Male and female Goldfinches are similar apart from the males have a larger red patch on their face. Juveniles are brown with darker streaks, they lack the red, black and white markings on their heads.

Goldfinches are widespread across the UK and can be found in bushes, trees and along the ground in thistles. However, they also like to live in parks, gardens and orchards.

Goldfinches like to feed on bird tables and will readily use hanging tube feeders. They like to eat a variety of seeds, insects, tree seeds and have a real love for Niger seeds.
