Sometimes we are so proud of how well our patients are doing that we just have to share it ASAP!

Mortimer is worried about injections, and at his previous vets was muzzled and would try to hide in a corner. He's been coming to see us for about 7 months and making amazing progress! For a boy who used to be scared to be muzzled, to this confident chap who knows that his muzzle is the source of super tasty treats - here he demonstrates that he is totally okay with it!

Although his clinic visits are important, Morti's owner has done a lot of work with him to desensitise and counter condition him to the muzzle. We think you'll agree that her hard work has definitely paid off!

This stunning young lady is Elba. Like many dogs, Elba wasn't keen on veterinary visits. Until she met RVN Lauren! Lauren has been working with Elba and her owner over the last few weeks and not only has she learnt that coming to the vets is fun, she's had her claws trimmed without it being scary (something very many dogs aren't keen on), and even had a blood sample taken without any restraint being needed!

Elba is the most recent graduate of our Fear Free confidence building sessions. Congratulations to Elba, her owner, and to Lauren!

Our clinic director's two pugs are taking a quick break from their sunbathing to warn dog owners that even though our pets may love the sunshine, they can quickly overheat (particularly short-nosed breeds, overweight pets, youngsters and the golden oldies) - so please avoid walking dogs in hot weather, and ensure they have access to shade and water at all times

We currently have a very handsome stray tomcat with us who was brought in by a member of the public as he had some wounds. He is undergoing medical care currently but we would really like to find his family! He is not microchipped or castrated, and is tabby and white.

Please get in touch if you think he might be yours!

the very handsome Togo graduated from confidence sessions this morning. Believe it or not, following some slightly scary (for him) medical issues he was so scared of vets that in November he jumped up into his mum's arms when he got here (impressive for a 35kg dog!). 4 confidence sessions and 2 vaccine visits later and he's had his injections without even noticing!! We're so proud of this gorgeous boy!

Introducing handsome Fido.
Like many dogs, Fido has a fear of having his nails trimmed. He's been coming in regularly for what his owner calls "nail therapy" with one of our nurses, Sam.
Fido has grown in confidence and is slowly but surely learning to trust Sam.
Here he is on the nail-scratching board. This is something new he is trying out and involves lots of praise and treats.

Something a little different for !
Rabbits and other prey species are naturally more fearful than dogs and cats, so it's very difficult to achieve a true "Fear Free" experience. However, we do all that we can to minimise their stress. Rufus is a really chilled rabbit who visited today for neutering, and very much approved of the Exotics ward - so much so that he was relaxed enough to flop down to sleep!

We have sadly had a desceased cat brought into us.

Entire male with no microchip.

Mostly Tabby with some white on him.

He’s had previous eye surgery.

Found on church rd near mays convenience store.

Lovely chunky boy , someone will definitely be missing him. 💙

# although prey species such as rodents are more likely to be worried during vet visits, we still do our best to have as Fear Free an approach as possible. This includes changing scrub tops to minimise the smell of predators, using cleaning products that remove smells rather than just masking them with strong fragrances, ensuring that we use Pet Remedy to help with calming, and also examining them where they feel most comfortable. This is very often on Yvette's shoulder, which she's always happy with as she has a special interest in exotics, particularly small furries!

We love a golden oldie! Jasper came in this afternoon for his booster vaccination and some cuddles and snacks!
As part of our culture, we try to make our patients feel as comfortable as possible. Jasper has decided that the pod seats are the best place to sit, so that's where he had his examination today!

We would like to reassure our clients that we will be continuing to care for any dogs who fall within the new government legislation in the same way that we always have - as if they were part of our own families. If you're finding muzzle training difficult, this link might help :-)
