BIG ANNOUNCEMENT

We are very excited to be able to announce that here at Holme Farm we have set up a new barefoot track system and currently have 8 ponies/horses thriving in their new environment.

This exciting addition to the business is enabling these horses to live out 24/7, 365 days of the year, and enables us to create an environment that mimics more natural behaviours within a domesticated environment. It is allowing the horses to have movement on a 24/7 basis, more freedom of choice, high fibre forage diets, and friendship every single day of the year!!

We have DIY spaces for geldings available now, but please note spaces will not be given on a first come first serve basis and will be based on the right Horse and Owner for the new set up. We are looking for like-minded people who are either on the journey or about to begin the journey of keeping their horse more naturally and barefoot.

The end of the season is upon us and the flowers have mostly gone to seed, so sadly bookings are now closed.

The remaining Sunflowers will feed the wildlife at Holme Farm throughout winter, and happily we feel there is plenty to go around to feed your local wildlife as well!

We will be opening for one more Saturday at the end of September/beginning of October for anyone that would like to come along and pick your own Sunflower heads for your bird feeders.

The heads will take a week or two to ripen. Once the heads are fully ripe, we will announce the open day here on our FB page, so keep an eye out.

It is with a huge sigh of relief that we can confirm the scope came back clear, and the horse does not have strangles.

We just want to say a massive thank you to all our customers for remaining calm and pulling together over the last 3 days. We are so grateful to have such a loving and supporting Holme Farm family who never fail to come together and rally around each other whenever it's needed.

We also want to say thank you to everyone that shared this post to communicate it as far and wide as it has been, and to everyone that expressed sympathy and support. It really has made a very stressful time that much easier to handle.

We will be celebrating!!!

⬆️ UPDATE ABOVE ⬆️

We have just been informed that a horse that left our yard on Wednesday 18th August has had a positive blood test for strangles, but is not currently showing symptoms.

We are awaiting further test results from a scope to give a definite confirmation, however until we hear otherwise, we are assuming the worst and implementing a strict yard lock down.

We are advising anyone hacking through the area to avoid using the bridle way that runs through our Farm between Woodberry land and Broad walk until further notice.

Any farriers, vets, physios, dentists etc should not attend the yard unless ABSOLUTELY necessary, and if necessary, they should ensure strict biosecurity practices are followed.

We will continue to keep everyone posted with any updates as and when we have them. Please share this far and wide to ensure anyone that needs to see this does.

Our yard made a pledge in 2018 with the Redwings Sanctuary - Stamp Out Strangles Campaign and we are following best practice and guidance given by them as well as our local Veterinary practice.

This is every yard owner’s and their customers worst nightmare, so please work with us to help us manage this as best we can.

To be clear we have had a strict biosecurity procedure in place for many years, and since having this in place no horse has set foot on the yard without a clear strangles test and evidence of all other required up to date vaccinations.

We suspect this infection has been picked up either from attending a recent event or while out hacking.

This is an extremely distressing time for our customers and ourselves and we ask that you show kindness and compassion during this time.
